my purpose in life is to love the Lord my God with all of my heart and to love my neighbor as myself.

- What do you think your purpose in life is?
To live it[/quote]
Thank you
And then how you choose to live is the individual matter. There are many things, but helping people in some way or other form, would be my foremost ‘purpose’

Pillage her village!!!
Of, course~
I don’t believe that life has a higher purpose.
Logically, a system that is capable of self-preservation will outlast a system that is not. A system that is better suited to sustaining itself will generally win over one that is worse. I suppose that’s a really general logical basis for the theory of evolution. I see life as a chemical system that has developed an amazingly complex and adaptive system of self-preservation.
I guess a more positive way of looking at it is your purpose is whatever you wish it to be,

Then you’re an existential nihilist.

That’s how some existentialists look at it. Albert Camus believed you could create your own meaning. Nietzsche did too but Nietzsche believed that man could become god, or at least Titans and he believed a higher purpose can be found in the existential struggles and triumphs of man. By contrast, Soren Kierkegaard believed that a “leap of faith” is required to overcome nihilism. Kierkegaard’s views on Christianity were unorthodox however, probably owing to his radical Lutheran background.

An existential nihilist? How dare you!!!
Just kidding, that’s a rather accurate description of my philosophical beliefs, though like an absurdist I don’t necessarily reject the idea that a purpose could exist. I can’t say I wholly agree with absurdism, though. For a school of thought in which uncertainty is a guiding principle, it makes a rather large assumption about our unshakeable determination to find meaning. Seems rather depressing. I can’t see what’s wrong with enjoying being for the sake of being.
That’s why the attitude that nihilism is something to overcome kind of puzzles me.
