Your Physique isn't Impressive, STFU

OP, if you’re being corrected multiple times then maybe you’re doing something wrong.

I’ve only had one person talk to me and it was when I was doing front squats. I knew I wasn’t doing it with great form, because I was just starting off, but I sat their and listened anyway. I could have gone off and said: “Hey, fuck you…you don’t know what I’m doing…blah, blah, blah…” However, I just thanked him for the advice and explained I was practicing form.

That’s all you have to do…it’s called manners. You went on the offensive, because your ego probably took a hit since a girl was trying to correct you. Anyway, either all these people who are correcting you are wrong OR you have bad form/lifting too much. I suspect the latter.

I’ve been lurking this site, and just wanted to vent.

Why does everyone with a gym membership and a lil bit of regularlity think they have the right the right to fucking preach to other people in the gym?

It’s just pissing me off.

I’ve lifted at the YMCA, 24 Hourfitness, and a local hard ass gym noones ever heard of.

All of them had a lot of fucking know it all people with no strength or ability, who read an article, or yapped with some guy “guns.” And now they think they have the right to preach to other fucking people.

The only place where this doesn’t happen to me, and the new place I lift, is my school…therefore, I’m only going to lift at my school for now on. Cuz I actually like the people in my weight room.

Examples of this bullshit:

Some dumb old bitch says, doing some wierd aerobic cardio shit in an outfit out of the 80s with 5 lbs weights, is working out.

I’m minding my own fucking business, and go to do some 60 lbs db curls, (after I’ve done some other arm work), because I always try to up the weight.

After this I decided I wanted to practice my form on some cable machines as I never really used cable machines before, only free weights. So I was trying to learn good form from a book, and did a few reps.

Anyways, stupid female comes up and is like “You know, you’re only doing 1 or 2 reps on these machines, you NEED to take your EGO out of your LIFTING, and you’ll get a lot better that way, you should be doing at lot more reps, and you CURL too much, you should be doing 20s, since you’re new at this gym.”

“Look, lady, I don’t come to you and slap the dicks out of your mouth, so leave me the fuck alone you don’t what I’m doing, and if you did you’d feel like a huge jackass.”

She gets furious goes ape shit and storms off.

Another time, there’s this black dude, who is like staring at me when I’m about to squat. He comes over like fucking action jackson, one of those like fat ass “I USED TO PLAY FOOTBALL TYPES” and he’s like, are YOU SURE YOU KNOW HOW TO SQUAT.

He starts breaking down some kind of high school lecture on the dangers of squatting poorly.

I appreicated it and all, but can I just fucking lift? I mean, fuck can I just fucking lift?

I mean, some lil dork ass, pencil neck dude, comes up to me when I worked out at the YMCA, and I was using one of those stupid benchpress fake ass machines, and maxing it out. And he comes up like, WOAH DUDE, YOU ARE DOING TOO MUCH WEIGHT! Why are you trying to lift that much, I have been lifting for 3 years, and I never push up that much weight. Blah blah blah…I’m thinking, why the fuck does this dude care, I’m just trying to lift, do you come up in here and talk or something, is this your hang out.

The worst is the dude who tries to come up to me at a fitness club, and talk shit on my form, my whatever, cuz he is prolly a personal trainer. Try to act like we’re buds and be a total dipshit and be like, “WELL YOU NEED TO EAT 24% carbs and blah blah, and you need to only lift so many days a week, blah blah.”

Usually this guy is pretty fit, kinda fit but nothing spectacular. Just some bothersome selfcentered prick, who thinks he’s a know it all.

I could go on and on.

Anyways that’s my vent, I just had to get this shit out.

Why the fuck are there so many annoying jack asses in gyms?
I think its pretty cool you actually said something to the bitch who talked down to you about lifting. Most people on this site nod their heads and then run home and complain about it on T-Nation.

…which, you kinda did too, but at least you told to leave you the hell alone. Quite hilarious.

“Don’t disrespect women”

blah blah blah, you fucking whiners. Did you even read what they cunts said to him? They deserve what they got. If more people would actually do this, you could have more funny stories to share with T-Nation instead of just whining about how some small idiot/ole lady/badger tried to correct your form.

Shame on him for not saying something similar to the faggots who approached him. Hell, he could say the same thing to them as he did the women. That could be his phrase.

Anyways, personally, man, woman, regardless, if you come up to me and say something stupid to me while working out, I’m gonna throw that shit back in your face, which is what this dude did. Good.

Why the hell everyone is getting so bent out of shape like this guy doesn’t have the right to complain about people annoying him at the gym beats the fuck outta me.

I just think everyone here is over analyzing the situation. It’s real simple… when someone comes up to you and says something , listen to what he/she is saying. If it makes sense , accept it. If it doesn’t make any sense , reject it(Flame me if you want for adding Bruce Lee into the discussion). I really do not understand getting all worked up to the point where you post on this forum.

Furthermore, I go to a college gym , which I guarantee has more bums and douches than your average YMCA. I have yet to get angry more than once in 2 years. The only time you should get angry is when someone lays a hand on you; feel free to send him to the cemetery.
Melvin Smiley wrote:

That was a good line and he obviously did not say it to her face.

OP should post a video of himself doing lifts at the gym. It’d be hilarious if he did and in the video someone comes up and corrects him.

that gives me an idea, to blatantly do a lift wrong and rediculous until someone comes up and then tell them theyre completely wrong and of course have it on video.

NewDamage are you serious?

From the comment he got on his squat it sounds like he’s one of those that put wayyy too much weight on and do a 1/10th of a rep.

if someone comes up to you and says “you sure you know how to squat” then you actually don’t know how to squat. or you’re a beginner and should listen to advice

Seriously, that’s a great idea.

So you are strong enough to do arm curls with 60 lbs and you were trying to learn good form from a book. Please take your comments and posts to www.bodybuilding.com; they will be better suited there.

P.S Your an ass
LiveFromThe781 wrote:

dont get me wrong i wouldnt go out cussing out old women for no reason nor do i condone it. i dont think i need to defend myself about it either but my gym etiquitte is: the only time you talk to someone is if you know them, and keep it brief, or ask someone “how many more you got?” and of course if a chance to hit on a girl presents itself. other than that, shut up, focus on your lifts, get big to the point where people will come to YOU.
So let me get this straight: unless somebody knows YOU, they had better dare not talk to you. But if you see a hot girl, whether you know her or not, it’s just fine to interrupt her workout with inane blather. Do you not see the contradiction?

If you wanna hit on girls at the gym, fine, but then dont act like you’re so hard-core focused that someone BSing with you, or asking anything more than “how many more you got” will break your finely-tuned, intense concentration. Because if you’re keeping your eye out for chicks, you really arent all that focused. Which is fine, just stop trying to represent yourself as something other than what you are.

if your secure in what your doing then you should just let it go. I get talked too alot while im training mainly because band/chain/board methods are novel to most people. Just be polite and explain what your doing. Otherwise you’ll be regarded as a jerk and gyms have enough of those as is

That’s the thing, I hadn’t even started squatting yet.

It was in the evening, and the dude was just sititng there talking with his cronies, a bunch of young guys, and he was like “the guru” and then decided to widen his influence to me.

That’s why I don’t go to that gym anymore, I’m not pissed, but it is like, a “hang-out” as much as like a lifting place.

I don’t scream when I lift, and I don’t bother anyone, and I talk to people. No, it isn’t everyday or everytime people come up to me and talk shit.

I just don’t know why they do or would even bother.

At my school gym, I can use all the equipment in peace and noone bothers me.

Usually I lift with some friends, it seems at the fitness club, everyone thinks they are some kind of think tank on the subject.

Ya, I did say that to the woman. I think I have a right to have done that, cuz she was being a douche to me, I didn’t make any assumptions about her, but I guess since I’m a young guy with my head shaved, I’m an asshole. I didn’t even have a wife beater on or something stupid like that. She just assumed I was a jackass cuz I was young and male or something. It’s offensive to tell someone they are “Ego-Lifting” when I’m just minding my own business and not trying to hurt anyone. I’m not getting in your face here, and trying to tell you how to lift…I think that would qualify more as ego lifting, that you’re so fucking mentally small you can’t just leave people alone. Every place has to be your soapbox, and every conversation has to place you with deference.

I think you all took this wrong way, cuz I said “your physique is not impressive, STFU.”

I’m not saying, I am Ronnie Coleman here, but unless you are notably accomplished, I really don’t give a fuck what you look like or think.

Sorry, but most people who try to go and preach to others, do it because that is the only thing they can do.

Someone who was concerned about their lifts would just lift.

WHAT? This really shocks me. With your tired, unoriginal slams and eloquence, I had you at 25-30 at a minimum.

Boy her face must have been red for making such a crazy assumption.

I’m serious. But, I was referring more specifically to the women who lectured him. Because I can’t see how this guy actually squats, I can’t assume its good or bad, one way or the other. But I am familiar with the “you shouldn’t squat ass to grass, you shouldn’t let your knees go over your toes, you shouldn’t ” people who inhabit gyms.

Furthermore, these are also the type of people who are much more likely to obnoxiously provide their bad advice to those who don’t want to hear it, or don’t need it. This is even more true if you happen to lift more weight than them - most males especially have big egos and are soon to develop inferiority complexes when around other males. Often times they’ll tell you how strong they were “back in the day” and tell you what you’re doing is shit, and that Pilates-Ninja IsoDynamic Strething is better and safer.

Now granted, homeboy here coulda been squatting poorly - I don’t know if that’s the case. If he was squatting properly, though, and dude lectures him, then gym professor needs to shut the fuck up.

I’ve seen enough stupid people in the gym tell people stupid shit to know that there may not be anything wrong with what the OP is doing, other than working out with idiots. On the other hand he might indeed be one of the folks I regularly make fun of. What I DO like to see is someone getting slammed if they come up to you and start mouthing off (which is what the two women did, if what he says is true.)
Hay gusy this post isn’t really a rant but, a post talking about how awesome I am compared to everyone else disguised as a rant.

POUNDS CHEST
IM SO FUCKING AWESOME I CURL 60LB DUMB BELLS AFTER MY 3RD SET.
I ALSO SQUAT BY GRABBING THE GRASS WITH MY ASS AND PULLING IT OUT, ALL WHILE I DO REP WORK WITH 600

MAN IM SO FUCKING JACKED RIGHT NOW
fixed.
Guerrero wrote:

Clearly you’re not concerned about your lifts then since you seem to have “making smartass remarks to woman” as priority A1. Of course, you didnt have the balls to say it to the guy who asked you about squatting. Pussy.

I think we can all agree that euthenasia is the only mature solution to any of this…
