Little tip-- take a knife and mix the oil into the natural PB then put the PB in the fridge and it won’t separate back from the oil.
Dude…Never put peanut butter in the fridge. Room temperature PB owns cold, thick, hard to spread PB.
Your both right… put it in the fridge, and, if you have trouble spreading OR the oil seperates out, put it in the microwave for 30 seconds… then mix, spread, refridge…
best of both worlds… courtesy of good eats on the food network…
also, /agree on making your own almond / cashew butter, its a lot cheaper and much tastier… again, good eats on the food network, that guy is my freaking hero when it comes to cooking.
I am a peanut butter fanatic, and could easily go through a jar every day if I let myself.
PB has healthy fats and protein, but is also high in calories. Unless bulking, you have to watch your intake so you don’t overindulge.
It’s true that brands like Skippy add a small amount of sugar/hydrogenated oils/etc., but it is typically not enough to make much of a difference to your nutrition profile.
When cutting in the past, I’ve used peanut butter powder instead of peanut butter. It has the same taste, but without the fats/calories, and is great for protein shakes, cottage cheese, etc.
BAD. High in PUFA (polyunsaturated fatty acids). When roasted, turns into hydrogenated oil. High in Aflatoxin. Becomes rancid easily, even when refrigerated Avoid, or use occasionally in small amounts.

I buy “Naturally More” from Walmart. It’s a peanut butter base, but it has flaxseed oil and flaxseed so that it is higher than omega 3 than omega 6. Has something like 11g fat, 4g net carbs, 10g protein. Win win win.
They sell that at Walmart? I’m going to have to look for it now, thanks.
Naturally more is the best PB ever. The sugar and honey is like 2g per serving, hardly anything.
Once Again Chunky Natural PB is good too, has no sodium added if that’s a concern.
There have been other discussions on Peanut Butter on T-Nation. Several people have made compelling arguments that “Natural Peanut Butter” is more likely to contain aflatoxins. You might want to do a search to find that argument.
Nontheless, “natural” or not, I would suggest limiting the amount of PB you eat.

Yeah they sell it at Wal-mart, it’s like under $3. Mine is almost always sold out though, so when they do have it, I have to stock up on like 4 jars at a time.

I buy ‘Teddy’ brand as well.
Yes! Teddie FTW!!!
I have to eat Smuckers since moving from ME to TX and I actually contacted the Teddie company trying to convince them to sell to me by the case. They refused. Smuckers tastes really bland to me compared to Teddie. I’m not sure if Teddie roasts their peanuts longer or what.
Natural peanut butter isn’t that much more than the regular stuff especially if you buy the “teddy” brand. A lot of super markets are starting to come up with their own natural peanut butter as well, just review the nutritional info and ingredients, it should say 100% peanuts.
It tastes creamier and is more healthy.
I can’t go back to regular or crunchy peanut butter anymore.
A little trick that I started doing a few years back. I also buy jars of natty PB about four at a time but hated opening a new one because I would have to mix it and get oil all over the place. Then I decided to store them in the cupboard upside down and the oil settles at the bottom of the jar. No more mess!

I don’t know, guys. Charles Poliquin sure doesn’t like peanut butter.
Due to phytoestrogens? (I just did some quick Googling.)
EDIT. OK, with more Googling, apparently the phytoestrogens in peanut butter, according to Poliquin, occur IN a mold within peanut butter; but according to Wikipedia (yes, I know, not always reliable) the phytoestrogens in peanut butter are present for the purpose of COMBATING mold. Now I am confused.

I know the Kroger’s that I’ve been to in Atlanta and Athens have their own Kroger brand natural peanut butter that costs $1.99. About the same as JIF, and I actually find it a lot tastier than Smucker’s! I used to eat Smucker’s natural peanut butter for years until I tried Kroger’s. The texture is smoother, and the peanuts don’t taste as roasted. Try Kroger!
Bulldogtor, is Kroger’s PB in their natural/organic area or with the rest of the PB? Thanks.
