I think Harris gets called out for his remarks, as he makes them, but going back in time to a thread now long dead, to put someone to task for comments made is probably bad form.

Anyway, I haven’t seen a lot of plaudits. I’ve never written up any kudos for such statements, but then I’ve never felt it my place to go chastise him either.

For the sake of honest commentary, let other people be their own moral police, everyone (and I mean everyone) can see with their own eyes and make their own judgments. Focus on the issues instead of the behavior of those discussing the issues and things go smoother.

Ahem, yes, it’s possible that I’ve been involved in more conflict and fighting on the political threads than most, but I can honestly say I don’t hold any grudges whatsoever… though the temper will flare more quickly for some than others.

For example, Zeb and Rainjack are two people that I’ve sparred with quite a bit. While I can’t speak for them, I certainly have no ill will at all. I’d be more than happy to buy them a beer, shoot the shit, chow down on some BBQ and generally laugh about our combined antics over the years. I think it would be a blast!

Calling people evil, or suggesting that liberal attitudes exist to allow the spread of evil and shit like that is just crazy talk. Just because this is the Internet and we will never meet doesn’t mean we are all devil worshipping in our basements. I mean, Harris might be, but the rest of us aren’t (I’m kidding).

The fact that age doesnt matter when it comes to mental maturity. I know plenty of younger people who are much more mature than very old people. My point is this is usually the first step in maturing.

3. The people who are making rude comments about god are just looking for a response. They feel better the more of a response they get. Ignore them and they will go away. I do however think it is ok for people to make comments like this.

I was one, but the only reason I said anything was because too often I see extremely rude comments about people who don’t believe in God. These people make me laugh when they claim to hold Christian values yet throw them all away to degrade, insult, and belittle someone who doesn’t share the same beliefs.

My point was that people were just trying to get a response. That if we dont allow people to say things like this we are no better than the asses that blew people up for a cartoon.

Think about it, what is the alternative, killing people for publishing a cartoon that depicts Ala in a bad way? Oh that was already done and I think we all looked down on the people that did this. I have a question, how is this different than not allowing people to speak their mind? It doesnt matter that the person was just looking for a response to sound cool, this is what separates us for THEM right?

4. There are only a few rules all sane people will agree on. (i.e.) thou shall not kill. Of course there are exceptions but for the most part killing someone for no good reason is frowned on. Now I know for good reason will be debated but there is a point where all people would agree.

The next is we should not depict adolescent girls as sex objects. At what point is the age cutoff could be debated but seeing a baby in diapers with boobs would be there right? Well this follows back to the whole Im different so you just dont get me man saying. Crock o SHIT. Every generation will push the limits as far as they can to prove they are different. Showing obviously preteen girls this way is to far.

Yes and no. I just wanted to point out a couple of things society would agree on. Because it really doesnt matter what the small percentage of the population thinks the masses will make the decision of what is right and wrong. I think the masses would feel cartoons that show very young girls in a sexual manner to be very worng.

Finding the cutoff for the age is not set in stone but society will tell you what is too young and I think preteens is the general consensus.

5. Reading the posts from the younger generation saying your old this is what we do or whatever makes me laugh. Remember #2? I never insult anyones inteligence when they ask a question. I ask stupid questions all the time. Usually the simplest of questions give people the most trouble to answer. The one I like to ask is why do you believe in god. Many people just do because everyone else does. This is just my personal opinion but many people I know couldnt answer me. I have no idea what the point of your post was.

My point is history repeats itself. The only way to stop this is by studying history and not making the same mistakes. One of the biggest mistakes is thinking every generation is different than the past. This is the commonality that brings all generations together. Once you understand this you can see that age has little to do with maturity. That we are all defined by our actions regardless of our age. It is my personal belief that the more someone learns the more clearly they can see the world. Kinda like focusing. The more you know the more you can understand. Dont know how else to put it.
