Perhaps not Momma’s cup of tea, but there’s no denying the power of Sid Vicious’ iconic punk image with that P-bass strapped down low (even though the fucker barely played).
Probably not any “real” bassist’s cup of tea but I’ll take him as the “iconic punk bassist image” over Mark Hoppus any day. But somehow, THAT fucker got a Fender signature model bass named after him.

Ugh. One of THE worst bands in the last 20 years. They don’t know if they should be crying, or pissed off. Then again playing the confused dolt sort of does represent the last generation.
Im not that confused ID
…so just a dolt then? I kid Big D :p
Exactly but I prefer eccentric Dolt sounds like it has more class.
I once read a great interview with John Paul Jones.
He described his set-up and playing style. He criticized bassists that play in a boppity-boppity-bop style (too many notes played in higher octaves).
Are you a boppity-boppity-bop style player, or do you hold down the warm fat bottom like Jonesy did?

And I totally agree with him. JPJ played the bass like a bass. Basses are low and aren’t to be flicked, pulled, chorded or plucked. I always loved his phrasing on the bass, understated, yet impressive. The ‘Lemon Song’ embodies that for me.
I thought that was the right choice for Zep 2 instead of ‘Traveling Riverside Blues’

I agree as well. Plus, when you hold down a nice fat warm tone in Jonesy’s style , it really emphasized the crunch of Jimmy’s guitar work.

Les Claypool tried out for Metallica…Could you imagine?
Ugh. No disrespect for Claypool’s talent, but his sound and style are not my cup of tea.
Odd, but I love Flea’s playing much better.
