Yes We Can!

Yeah, that hasn’t been going on at all already. The US doesn’t have one of the biggest widening gaps between rich and poor in the world. No, not at all.

What world are you living in?

What world are you living in? Our poor are incredibly wealthy compared to most of the rest of the world. Just because our rich are mega rich does not mean we have to tear them down.
So wait a second, we’re now basing US standards on how people in impoverished or third world nations live???

Is that what you’re telling me? So instead of making America great for all we’re going to say you should be happy because you don’t live in Darfur. That’s great, really. lol.

If that’s the case then America is doomed.

It’s not a quintile - that would be the top fifth or twenty percent. The President Elect’s plan is that income taxes will be raised on the top demi-decile (the highest earning one-twentieth of the population).

Yeah, expressing optimism in the ability of American’s to rise to the challenges they face is pretty scary stuff…

Maybe you should all hide in your bunkers to avoid the paramilitary force on it’s way to take your guns while chanting NO YOU CAN’T.

It’s not so much WHAT Obama says that is so bothersome and, at times, scary. It’s the fact that he has, quite literally, a cult following. There are people in this country who will think anything he says and does is right, without question. And that is a scary thing. It’s not the expression of optimism, it’s the expression of a blind optimism for a yet unproven leader. To this point, Obama has been deemed infallible by all of his supporters. When you give someone that much blind and unfailing support, nothing good can happen.

Yes, Obama is the most liberal president-elect ever, based on statistics, but that’s not the part of it that has conservatives so worried and frustrated by the situation. It stems from the fact that at no point in this entire campaign, did anyone step back and look at what’s being said and claimed, and be like wait a minute, is that even realistic? Instead, they come together in crowds and masses and chant “yes we can.”

It’s like something out of a movie.

The Bush fanatics have been out-fanaticked.

The conservative wing of the Republican party is dead and it was officially killed by Regan when he decided the only way to “defeat” the USSR was to outspend it. Bush I and Bush II just carried on his tradition of spending on the Empire.
Perhaps we could see a rebirth of true fiscal conservatism at the federal level? I’m trying to be optimistic.

/thread.

The cult-of-personality FDR and Reagan had and still have is much greater than Obama ever had or ever will have.

The insinuations that his popularity is like that of a dictator is laughable when you compare him to former popular presidents.

People here honestly feel that someone has been elected who:
A)Does not love his country
B)Actually wants to harm his country
C)Has malevolent intentions

Our poor are richer than most of the worlds poor and our poor are richer than they have ever been in this country.

There will always be poor. We should not tear down others because there are poor.

We should not subsidize the poor because then there will be more of them.

YES WE CAN! We can weaken a country in a single election! We did it with Carter, Why not with Osama…Maybe our brand of socialism will work better than anybody else’s.

Don’t be a sore loser, Big Pat.

The next four years should be interesting to watch. I doubt very much the vehemence of Obama’s supporters or the venom of his detractors will be justified. Hopefully the US will be a better place in four years because of, not in spite of, new government policies.

Yes, this time more and bigger government will work…

Maybe one day we can even have one giant monopolistic world wide government to make our lives better, too. Imagine how awesome that would be!!

IT may sound like that, and perhaps there is some of that, though I didn’t really McCain having that much of a chance.
What I cannot get or understand is people buy meaningless bullshit, or as BB put it “meaningless platitudes” and meaning anything at all.
Change and hope are all I hear. Change what and to what? Hope for what? Isn’t that kind of important to know? The Bolshevik Revolution of 1917 was a change. The invasion of Czechoslovakia was a change, I dare say for the far worse. I want substance, and anything of substance that has come out of Obama’s mouth is all bad. More taxes, bigger government. His proposed policies will drive out business and cripple the economy even more. Wealth redistribution is not only a socialist modality, but it likewise punishes accomplishment. Why not tax people proportionally? Why punish people for having more? You know what companies do when they have to pay more taxes? They leave and they take their jobs with them.
What has Obama ever done of any substance? He has served the country for 153 days in the senate and done either bad things or nothing. What evidence do we have he is going to do anything right? A few feel good speeches is not enough for me. The man has no experience in any thing substantive.

Hope, change and “Yes we can!” mean nothing…It’s all feel good garbage…I’d rather just take a painkiller if I wanna feel good.

Isn’t that the campaign Obama ran on?

It seemd like he was running for world leader not president of the US

Yes we should have a flat tax at all levels no deductions, then when someone tries to raise taxes he pisses everyone off.

And then everyone is putting the same relative amount into our government so they will hopefully start to feel some sort of accountability or responsibility.

A tax only to fund infrastructure and military, privatize everything else.

I like the quote if your looking for a hand up look to the end of your arm.

Not that we shouldn’t help people but it should be on the social level not the government level.

Yesterdays “strong words” I think are fitting for you:

Applause, mingled with boos and hisses, is about all that the average voter is able or willing to contribute to public life.?Elmer Davis

You and all your little buddies aren’t going to do anything to change anything. YES YOU CAN, keep doing the same crap you have always done that nobody cares about. YES YOU CAN keep hoping that some guy is going to change our world for the better just because he told us so.

YES YOU CAN believe it! great change is coming! why? because some guy named obama said so!!

you changed your avatar…to represent your optimism,no?

Y’know, I’m not going to suggest you’ll like Obama’s policies, but if you haven’t listened enough to know what they are… that is your own damned fault.

It’s ridiculous to still be sitting around saying all he talks about is hope and optimism.

But vroom, fox news and the blogs I read told me he hasn’t! And I believe them more than the damn liberal media!
