Supposedly PS 3s cost like 700 or 800 to make. I think.

What the hell is the company who is making the Blue Ray player (Samsung?) pricing it at $1000? Who (of the early adoptors) is goina buy a Blue Ray player when they could have a PS 3 for $400 less.

That’s making the assumption that Blu-Ray wins the “Format Wars.” Honestly, besides the space (and even then), I don’t see a need for Blu-Ray or HD-DVD or the standard DVD format. I mean shit, how much higher can you make the bitrate of a movie before it tops out?

And how many people are going to have television sets capable of displaying that type of quality? The media industry is going to keep messin’ around and dissolve the need for movie theatres…not to mention fueling piracy…

The end might be near for DVDs, cable TV, and movie theatres – they’ve already begun selling TV episodes via iTunes. Personally, I pirate TV episodes because it’s more convenient than tuning in whenever the network says to. The only thing I even watch TV for these days is hockey and I don’t even buy DVDs now that Blockbuster has no late fees.

Alright, I got Battlefield yesterday…I do like the online play, but I still think Ghost Recon has a better multiplayer mode. The vehicles and whatnot are fun though.

Nice! Got you on my friends list and in my Battlefield 2 clan. Now if we can only get a few more people, we can really get rollin’. Will you be on this weekend? Since it is going to be a ton of rain here in the Northeast, I will be on a ton.[/quote]

I agree, but, people like shiny objects that they can touch and see.

As for Blue Ray: I’m just talking about early adoptors, they’ve already got a HD set, and since some are geeks, they won’t mind getting a PS 3 and saving a bunch of money while getting a game player. Tho they’d get the $1000 player if the ps 3 wasn’t there.

Format wars: i have no idea who will win, but it could go either way or be a tie:

eventually, when people start buying blue laser players because they are affordable, players might play both formats.

or, both will fail, and we’ll all be downloading movies.
