i do agree however that the last couple of years the yanks payroll is in another stratosphere. but 5, 6 years ago when the yanks were winning the series every year their payroll was no different from the mets, sox, or dodgers. only difference was those teams sucked. because of shitty decisions like mo vaughn, darren dreifort, and injury plagued kevin brown.
yes the yankees go out and spend shit loads of money and can go fuck themselves as far as im concerned. but for the most part they make smart moves.
this year thats all out the window because steinbrenner has taken over and is going after every big name he can find. when he intervenes the team doesnt play as well because there is no rhyme or reason to the players he goes after. when he lets the baseball people make the decisions they are succesful.
what are the texas rangers payroll numbers 2-3 years ago? not much different from the yanks but they sucked ass, because of shitty decisions. chan ho park, a-rod, carl everett etc…
yes they spend like a mutha but they spend it on players that get the job done.
“i do agree however that the last couple of years the yanks payroll is in another stratosphere. but 5, 6 years ago when the yanks were winning the series every year their payroll was no different from the mets, sox, or dodgers.”
WRONG. it was very different. none of those other teams were over 100 mil in their salary cap.
“because of shitty decisions like mo vaughn, darren dreifort, and injury plagued kevin brown.”
Mo Vaughn was picked up 2 years…not that long ago and not when the yanks were winning series after series. and you fell right into the trap and demonstrated my point perfectly. same year, both NY teams were in the market for a first basemen. yanks go out and sign giambi becauase they can throw all the money in the world at him…the mets have to settle for whatever the fuck was available…and in this case it was fatass Mo Vaughn.
youre barely keeping your head above water on this one, P-Dog…
3xKrazy: Wrong. Soriano went 2 for 17 as a major league baseball player in Japan before being sent back down to the minors. The next year he was offered $45,000 and turned it down to go to America.
“soriano played PROFESSIONAL ball in japan and the yanks gave him boatloads of money to come here.”
show me where what you said disproves the above statement…
dude signed into the japan minor leagues at age 16, played in 9 games when he was 18 and then “retired” to come play for the yanks. the fact that he went 2 for 17 or 17 for 17 is irrelevant. a prospects worth isnt decided on 17 at-bats. he was obviously a highly scouted player by ALL TEAMS.
but are you seriously going to argue with me that the yankees execs are somehow baseball god’s and immune from making poor trades/FA signings? do we really need to run down the list of total flops that have made their way through the bronx in recent years?
I’m not a Yankee fan, so no. And anybody who tells you that Steinbrenner is some brilliant owner doesn’t know what they are talking about.
BUT you made it seem like everybody knew Soriano was a great player when the truth is he was only scouted by 6 teams.
And you said everybody knew who he was because he played PROFESSIONAL baseball in Japan. The guy hit .117 in only 17 at bats. So if he was on anybodys radar it wasn’t because of that.
