God Bless Brian Cashman

It’s nice being a fan of the team that wants to win more than any other team. Lol

On a serious note

The Yankees’ spending is completely rediculous and is borderline creating a laughingstock but until there is a salary cap I don’t blame them one bit…

Sports may start to get boring when the Giants repeat and the Knicks get LeBron in a couple of years hahaha.

It’s gotten ridiculous in MLB. I hope the Yankees have to file for Chapter 11 next year.

DB

The Yankees have not won a damn thing since they started all this free agent mega-spending. You can’t force team chemistry. CC and Texeira were nice moves, but as the last 8 years have shown(Giambi, Pavano, K. Brown, Mussina, A-Rod, Damon, Matsui, Abreu etc, etc) marquee free agents guarantee nothing.

It’ll be even funnier when they don’t win the World Series again next season.

Hell at least they are willing to spend. I carry the Free Market approach into the MLB. If the Royals want to cry about not being able to compete with the Red Sox, Yanks, Angels, Mets…then spend more. If you don’t have more to spend, tough, make a better product or fold.

Exactly. I don’t see how all this spending equals wanting to win more than any other team. Especially when smaller market teams like the Rays, Tigers, and Rockies have recently made Series appearances.

Hell, the four newest expansion teams have each had a World Series appearance in the last 8 years. They went 2-2, and those two wins have come against the Yankees. Maybe it’s time for a new strategy.

The Yankees make more money than most teams combined. I have no idea of the figures but I wouldn’t be surprised if their spending compared to revenue is proportionally lower than some of the ‘small spenders’.

Don’t tell me that 12 consecutive playoffs appearences doesn’t impress you. The Yankees have the best front office in baseball. That much is obvious. I don’t want to turn this into an argument at all. Everyone can have their opinion, I’m just not going to argue about it.

The Teixeira talks started at 8am and was finished by 3. That means Teix was waiting this whole time for an offer from the Yankees or that Cashman is the smoothest guy in the game.

Either way if they don’t win the world series it will be an embarassment.

180 million for Teixiera is way too much. I know the Padres don’t have the money that most teams have including the yankees, but check this.

Is Teixeira really worth that much money compared to someone like Adrian Gonzalez?

Stats from last year.

Adrian Gonzalez
.279 BA 36 HR 119 RBI .361 OBP .510 Slug
and won the gold glove for first base.

Mark Teixeira
.308 BA 33 HR 121 RBI .410 OBP .552 Slug

Teixeira gets on base more and has a higher average, but come on! Gonzalez doesn’t make anything compared to that. Way overpaid for Teixeira. Don’t forget Gonzalez played on a horrible team with no good hitters around him.

I can’t wait for the Yankees to not make the playoffs or get knocked off in the first round again.

They overpaid for Sabathia and Burnett also. Why does this surprise you?

The real question is why does it matter. The Yankees make more revenue than any other team; overpaying has no negative effect on the team.

It doesn’t affect me. I also never said it was surprising. I’m just proving how stupid the Yankees are.

I’m still a firm believer in building a farm system where the guys get to play together and build chemistry in the minors. Either way, i hope the Rays stick it to them.

How does throwing half a billion dollars around in the off season, not winning a playoff series in multiple years and not making the playoffs last year constitute having the best front office in MLB?

No sir, The Red Sox have the best front office b/c they augment their big name players(witch outside Ortiz, Becket and Daisuke they dont have anymore) with talent they have drafted and/or developed them selves. That is coming from a Cubs fan.

If you were a multi-millionaire at an auction competing against buyers who make, for arguments sake, 100k per year, would it be stupid to over pay just to make sure you get what you want?

I play baseball, and team chemistry is over rated in a sport like baseball. Football, yes, because everyone needs to act as a unit to succeed, but that’s not the case in baseball. As long as EVERYONE on the team has winning as priority number 1 the team can succeed. (Pitcher/catcher realtionship is the obvious exeception)

Fair enough.

You can prove me wrong about the chemistry thing as soon as the Yankees win it all again.

I respect your opinion but there is really no way to prove anything. This isn’t a black/white situation.

If the Yankees can avoid injury they will live up to the expectations this year. The players have to understand the urgency to win in the next two years because of how old some of the core guys are getting.
