That’s actually not far fetched as you may seem to think. It wouldn’t be abuse per se, but it could very well be “neglect”. Neglect is serious as well. It IS your job to take reasonable measure to ensure the health of your child - including not letting her get severely sun burned.
Agreed, however I would be surprised if anyone’s children did not get sun burned now and then. 1 hour of “Neglect”…sunburn…go to jail? It’s possible in America.
I think you’re over-reacting. I’m thinking a severe burn - not the kind you’d get from an hour in the sun , but the kind you’d suffer from hours in the sun.

We do have laws though, and abuse of or overzealous enforcement of any law is possible. All it would take is a phone call by someone “meaning well” and you’d probably get a visit, but it would probably go nowhere if you had a good excuse.

(Off topic: Why is a scoop of ice cream 2x the price of the ‘‘hell burger’’? That’s fucked up!)
Because dairy neutralizes spicy foods. Just a way to make a little extra cash after the ‘‘hellburger’’ attempt. ;)
When I did the Hellburger, they didn’t really charge the $9. But, then again, the ice cream did little to soothe…
They just did this on Mythbusters. Milk was rated only a point higher than water for cooling the burn of peppers. Not exactly “mythbusted” but not the relief expected either.

If this is true I would really like to see what the Russian media has to say about this case.

I am presuming they will condemn this ladys actions but will they look at how ‘they’ treat the 700,000 or so orphaned children that reside in their state institutions?

We’ll have to wait and see…

I’m thinking “mistreatment” here is still far and above the treatment they receive in orphanages in Russia. A story of some troubled kid from Russia is not atypical.

Did they do whole milk or skim?

Yoghurt is more effective. Raita (more or less yoghurt) is served with hot curry as a kind of reprieve. There is apparently something in the fermentation process that counteracts the effects of peppers. Milk is probably still more effective than water in the sense that it coats the taste buds, so you aren’t downing as much liquid for the same effect.

Frozen yoghurt is probably the best dessert following spicy food. Purely from personal experience, I find coconut milk/ coconut related products to be pretty darned soothing, too.
