Wayne Rooney has taken the first steps down the long road to proving his fitness for the World Cup finals.
The Manchester United striker was spotted taking part in running, turning and ball work at Carrington ahead of England’s final training session before Saturday’s clash with Jamaica at Old Trafford.
Rooney was accompanied in his workout by two members of United’s backroom staff and the session was halted once members of the media were allowed in to film the official training session.
But the fact Rooney is able to undertake such exercises will be a boost to Sven-Goran Eriksson before he has another scan on June 7.
I realize this thread is populated with Scots, Brits, Dutch, and Americans, but let me throw one more name out there: Ukraine. Former player of the year + a striker who some thought was better than Shevchenko and just got a raw deal in England (he’s back to his old form in Dynamo though) + a group of young talent in Rotan, Gusev, Milevsky, Yatsenko, etc. equals one dangerous team. I wouldn’t be surprised if Ukraine equalled the efforts of Croatia in '98 with the favorable draw that we got.

I thought Chelski Shevchenko was injured?
If you’re referring to Rebrov, I wouldn’t ever say he got a raw deal in England - He was just shit. Absolutely shit.
Same as Morientes and Forlan. All classy players but the premiership didn’t suit them as it is possibly too fast and/or physical. Glad Forlan and Rebrov are doing well now abroad.
As an Arsenal fan though, I hope you can appreciate that I reserve a special type of glee for one of Tottenham’s record signings turning out to be a dud.
Ukraine were good against ENgland when we last played you but surely they will only advance if Sheva is fit and on form.

Shevchenko just had a knee strain but he’s cleared to practice now. As for Rebrov, some may say that it’s the PL that’s done it to him and if he was in Seria A, he may have done as well as Sheva. I am not one of those people, but I have watched him closely since '96 and he has done some amazing things while he was here in Dynamo and seems to be back to that form already. He is one of my favorite players and I will blame the Spurs coach for keeping him on the bench for so long :-). Also, we have another wonderful striker coming up (Milevsky) who may make a name for himself in the WC.
I don’t know if anyone is following under-21 EC but Ukraine and Holland are in the final, and four of the players from the Ukraine side will come up for the WC as well. Also, today we tied Italy 0-0 after beating Costa Rica 4-0 a week prior. When Sheva and Rebrov start practicing again and our young kids come back from Portugal, Ukraine may be dangerous.
Sir Alex Ferguson is unlikely to be so enamoured with the sight, but hopes of Wayne Rooney being passed fit for the World Cup have been enhanced by the ManYoo striker practicing airborne scissor-kicks in training before flying out to Germany with the rest of the squad on Monday.
Rooney will return to Manchester on Wednesday for the all-important second scan on his broken metatarsal but expectations are rising that, just six weeks after being injured against Chelski, he will be given the all-clear to re-join England’s 23-man party.
“It was absolutely fantastic to see Wayne doing scissor kicks. It is no longer a question of if he plays but when. We think he can be ready for the Sweden game - if necessary,” an England source told The Sun.
So all is looking up. More importantly, in addition, a footballer that no-one in England liked has become a national treasure in the space of a week after scoring a hat trick and doing ‘the robot’ yet again. We seem to be more impressed with the celebrations than the goals but still…

The huge downfall of soccer, a game determined by a fucking shootout if there is a tie score. If that happens then the 90 minutes of play was nothing more than foreplay to see a game determined by a part of the game and not the whole game.

You might want to review the current NHL rules for resolving a tie after 5 minutes of overtime.
i believe our best player is sasa solaja.his passing skills are world class.he is solid at dribling and keeping the ball.
he is as fast as anybody.great lateral agility.he was greatest player of hajduk split.
sasa sojala scored 22 goals for hajduk split in season 2002./2003.

Well, they didn’t beat Australia on Sunday, drew 1-1 in a friendly game. They had a few guys go off with injury.
Australia were down to 10 men with 30 minutes left as well. Our keeper did a great job to keep Holland out but I think their coach looked a little worried!
Lol, I could tell straight away that it was Balbos, the list on his second post just re-iterated it, haha.
Yeah, I’m feeling a lot more confident about Rooney, now. After what happened at the last World Cup with Beckham’s metatarsal, I thought that Rooney would be rushed in and made to play without being anywhere near match fit but he seems to be making very good progress. Hopefully he’ll be able to play before the knock-out stages.
Lol, just realised that he was having his check-up today, how did it go?
