Agreed. How can americans root for a team that plays for a tie? Its not the american way.[/quote]

Is that headline real? Pretty fucking funny.

Yeah I was kind of pissed about it too. We have no shot if we play for a tie when we are up against a good team. If you took away the uniforms in the first half and forgot it was England, I dont think the coaches would have made the call to D up and wait. We were keeping up, not to say that England isnt a great team and that we didnt have to play up to them, but we were definitely in it.

I think it’s a bit of a stretch to say we sat back the entire second half. Once we took Altidore off and played with one up front we had closed up shop for sure. But up until that point we had some good attacking chances with good numbers in and around their penalty area at times. If we had decided to throw caution to the wind then the field gets stretched especially because they were really pushing as well. At that point you have more one v one match-ups which will not usually come out in our favor against a team as talented as England. The bottom line is that right now the main concern is advancing to the second round, not winning every game at all costs. We picked up a point against the best team in the group which is a good result. Now that Slovenia won, our next game versus them is our MUST win game. If we beat Slovenia we will almost certainly go through as long as England takes care of business. We could even beat Slovenia and lose to Algeria and still go through as long as England wins its next two matches. Still, I know it’s frustrating to watch, but let’s keep the bigger picture in mind.

How can you think bigger picture after the Ford Mustang Revolutionary War commercial pregame? Weve got to GET those REDCOATS!!! IN OUR MOTHERFUCKING FORD MUSTANGS WITH FLAGS STICKING OUT THE WINDOWS!!!
Why we didnt use this tactic for the war on terror blows my mind.
I cant find this on youtube…

HA! You’re right! I would have gone into the game with a different attitude had I seen that commercial first, but it either wasn’t on here or I just missed it. Thanks for posting that.
Embarrassing result for England- partly the fact our talent pool is so poor and partly the the reliance on players who should deliver but never do. It amazes me that we seem to manufacture so few quick/strong players for a start.
I would love to see us play with more free roles to the players but attacking in such a way that Rooney/Gerrard/Lampard get tons of chances and our generally poor wingers don’t. Playing solid defensive football only works if you have the defensive and goalkeeping options to back it up and are lethal on the break, like Man Utd have been often… England, England, England… so frustrating you are.
I think the 1-1 tie can be summed up by the coach Buttermakers words in the remake of The Bad News Bears.
“Usually a tie is like kissing your sister, but in this case it’s like making out with a hot cousin”
The original Bad News Bears was still a better movie though.
