Working Out at 30,000 Feet?

Been reading about the Airbus A380, which is soon to be the largest commercial airline in operation. Apparently there is an option for airlines to include a fitness room for passengers to pursue exercise.

I doubt they would put heavy equipment on a plane, since the exact weight of a plane is important in determining fuel requirements. Still, it would be interesting to see if anyone would want this during a 20 hour flight?

For a 20 hour flight, I’d do some working out to keep me busy. I’d probably even keep rest periods really long and go for a 2 hour workout and milk that shit for all its worth. The longest I’ve ever been on a plane is 11 hours, and guess what? It wasnt fun.

They’d probably have a gym consisting entirely of machines. With mechanical or hydraulic resistance, not selectorized plates. You can’t have plates or free weights flying around in case of sudden turbulence.

Good call. Imagine that? Hahahahahahaha… That’d be bad.

Sounds like a damn good idea. God would forgive me for doing a machine workout to keep me busy. I just wonder about showering afterwards.

I wonder if they could outfit one of them with a swimming pool? That would be cool.

Fuck no, but I don’t think anyone looks forward to a long plane ride either. This is just something better to do than watch The Notebook on the in-flight movie or stare at the back of a seat.

I love long plane rides. They give me an opportunity to think, read, and write with practically no disturbance.

You don’t like the Notebook?

Personally i hate the idea. Imagine a that your in the middle of a really tough set and turbulence suddenly strikes. No thanks. I prefer to train when i know the floor beneath me is stable!

I think the best idea would be just to devote some free space in the plane where you could do BW exercises and perhaps a pull up bar. That way you’d keep the added weight to the plane on a virtual minimum.

Of course, since growing competition from low-cost airlines is threatening the established players, they’ll even more desperately push the “luxury” component to justify high ticket prices. If the plane workout idea really takes off, I’m expecting to see some cable gimmicks, a swiss ball and a massage table.

Same here. I always pick up a classic I hadn’t read, but should have.
