And what’s the deal with those silly
necklaces all the trainees wear when they’re exercising?
Microphones. They allow the trainers and clients to be active without having to wear those huge battery-pack looking mic units you see on most reality shows. Not that I’ve ever seen this show or anything…yeah…I just knew that…
Obviously the show has little to do with training in comparison to the drama, however I still enjoy watching the show. That may change though now that Doug, the nicest and most genuine person on the show, has passed away.
It’s not “either/or”. I watch all those Channels also! But sometimes my brain just doesn’t want anything too “heavy” or “serious” or whatever you guys think is not crap.
I just want to sit back, relax and watch some dribble!
I saw an episode or two before I stopped cable(it’s amazing how much time you have without tv) and I seriously enjoyed it. It seemed much more “real” than some of the other bullshit reality on t.v.
However, I don’t think that ANY of us watch PBS, “Animal Planet” or “serious” fair every time we watch the “Boob Tube”.

Actually…throw in History Channel, Discovery, and some news and you’ve got just about everything I ever watch. Guess I’m a nerd of nerds, but I just don’t find watching other people’s live their life even remotely interesting. I’m too busy with my own reality tv show.

Yeah, pretty much. History Channel, Discovery, TLC, PBS, Spike (UFC and CSI), and Adult swim. That’s about it. I do watch some sports though.
I get the escapist stuff and I know you weren’t hyping it up for an Emmy or anything, it’s just the gross disconnect between title and plot that irritates me.
As for;
I think that blank women look at blank with a lot less “disgust” and derision compared to the way blank men look at blank.
You could “Mad Lib” it. Women tend to be less outwardly (or just directly) vocal and derisive to begin with. But I somewhat agree, I think women tend to be more oriented around or sensitive to beauty in general, finding other women beautiful regardless of orientation. However, most of them that I know are disgusted by actual lesbian sex and even more disgusted by sex between gay men.
Relax, it’s a late night programming block on Cartoon Network. Anime of various sorts, Aqua Teen Hunger Force, Robot Chicken, Futurama, etc. (Funny enough, Aqua Teen Hunger Force doesn’t have near the same ‘title disconnect’ effect ‘Work Out!’ does). It’s ‘adult’ more because of language and violence than anything else. I miss the days when Bugs Bunny could shoot Yosemite Sam in the face at 3 p.m.

Hate to break it to you, but there is nothing “nerdy” about watching those shows. You realize they are programmed at 7th grade level, right?
Go pick up “Gates of Fire.” Then watch a History Channel Special on the Battle of Thermopylae. Go pick up an introductory text on forensics. Then watch “Cold Case.” Night and day.
One requires an attention span. The other does not. One requires active learning. The other does not. Indeed, there is very good reason that most of the guys I know how watch “nerdy” television don’t have a full book shelf.
I’ll never get guys who think watching “educational” television thinks that somehow better than watching trash. It’s like saying eating ice cream is better than eating candy corn.

I love Gates of Fire but it is written to be be accessible to the junior high/popular fiction level.
Cold Case and the sort are utter crap. History Channel is a bit simplistic but is is usually a cut above that type of programming.
I’ll admit I watch … although I’m not liking Jackie as much as last season. She seemed so pitiful stuck with her old girlfriend - that psycho biter girl… you couldn’t help but hope she would finally dump her and find happiness. But now that she’s single this season, she’s a total player. yuck.
It’s odd to watch someone who obviously is very successful in her career have what appears to be such an out-of-control personal life, not to mention the way she deals with her employees. But… it’s definitely all about the drama.
Their work with the Sky Lab clients is interesting - but of course you only get 2 seconds here & there of what actually goes on in the gym. And it’s really sad about Doug - he was my favorite and seemed like the best trainer out of all of them.
I don’t know how you can watch all the sets of smith machine squats, CORE training circuits, and endless sets of cheat curls.!!!
SORRY to bust your bubble, My uncle is a writer for many popular REALITY TV shows. YES WRITER FOR REALITY TV. I hate to tell you that most of what you see is SCRIPTED, or SET UP, to unfold in a certain way!

Both are shit!
While you are absolutely correct that TV is no substitute for reading, if I am going to be watching it I’d much rather watch something on one of “those” channels than most of the other drivel that’s on.
Just because someone enjoys those channels or types of programming in no way means they are advocating it over a good novel or historical account.
That being said: why do you always feel the need to jump in and nitpick every little thing someone says? I very rarely see you offer any constructive criticism (I didn’t say never; I have seen you do it from time-to-time). It often seems like griping about semantics. And in light of the recent debates around here, no I am not talking about coddling someone and holding their hand; some people around here - especially in the case of those trying to gain weight and not eating enough food - will never learn unless they are “told like it is”. That I can understand. But calling someone out for using the term “nerdy” in reference to TV programming? C’mon, man. And this is just one of many cases.
I am honestly not trying to start a fight here. I’ve just been watching you do it for a long time and have always wondered why you seem so agitated about every little thing that’s written around here. BTW, I’ve been here since '99 so don’t worry about the “well if you’d been here as long as I have you’d understand” bit…
