Wisey's Training Log - StrongEveryDay

Woke early today, so got up and went for a walk without any tech. Something nice and peaceful about that. Sun coming up and casting light across the mountain range to the west of the my property. Can’t beat it…

Doms is somewhat bad this morning…glutes, hams, adductors, upper back, neck, and even calves. :face_with_tears_of_joy:. One hell of an exercise is the deadlift. Virus still trying to hang on to me, but aside from light congestion still, it’s still improving.

125x26 later today. Doesn’t seem so bad :face_with_tears_of_joy::face_with_tears_of_joy:
Let’s get it.

Notes:

  • A very quick 5 minute session. Squeezed in between work items. Wasn’t really too bad…seemed almost easy compared to yesterday LOL. Got a little sticky in the last couple of reps.

Bench:

20x15

90x5

110x1

114x5 - 251.3lbs

Notes:

  • Deadlift cycle day 5 restarts this week, 5kg more load, back to 5 reps. Completed it with double overhand quite comfortably.
  • Bench was good. The last warmup flew up and felt very light in the hands. Then 114kg, only 4kg more…felt A LOT heavier strangely. But it moved fine. Definitely want to move the last warmup to a heavier load above the days weight again. Ran a little test the last few weeks, and it’s definitely better that way.
  • That’s the end of week 2 of Texas Method bench. Running it out until it plateaus. Hopefully way after 120kg for Fahve.
  • Doubt I’ll train tomorrow. Leaving the house at 0830 for a music festival (KNOTFEST). Not sure I Want any leg fatigue in any case, it’s a big long day. So likely double session Sunday I think to keep it on track, making day 1 come back to Mondays. Bench is scheduled next for Monday anyway.

Growing up, we had an unfortunate pattern with dogs.

First dog: we get dog, spoil dog rotten, train dog a little but not well. Dog is very smart, very funny, but also an asshole (see above about spoiling dog)

Few years later 2nd dog: we take training much more seriously. As a puppy, dog is very well behaved. Then his older brother taught him to be an asshole. Dog remains very smart, very funny, and an asshole.

1st dog passes, 2nd dog is lonely, so we get a 3rd dog: ….you can see the pattern developing haha

Yikes. What a crazy few days…

Didn’t train yesterday…BUT did get up early and head to Sydney for KnotFest!

Ticked off a few bucket list items musically…Saw A Day to remember and Hatebreed for the first times!

MET COREY TAYLOR in person. Wow. That was mental. And what a story I’ve got for how we did it lol. Australians are such menaces. When we want something…we find a way to make it happen.

So there was a cheeky posting on Instagram the other day, about how the first 100 people to visit the Blackcraft Cult tent inside the festival grounds would be able to secure a black wristband, which which would allow access to meet Corey in person, at 5pm that day.

My mate called me late Friday, and said “Listen let’s get there uncharacteristically for gates open, and see if we can pull that off”.

Thinking we had no chance…I thought, Fuck It.

So we go up early, and I drove us up in the Mini. Scored a Crazy good parking spot, the first of the impossible steps required sorted.
Walked the ten minutes into the venue…

DAMN. Crowd was already 3-4000 thick at the gate awaiting its open. We can’t be THOSE guys surely and push through.

OR CAN WE JUST ONE TIME. For Corey. :face_with_tears_of_joy:.

Then we realised hey, We are two big Aussie blokes in Australia, happy looking, but big. Who’s going to say anything anyway hahaha. So we got started with phones out pretending to look for our "Mates " lol. We’d move through about 5-10m, stop and settle while still looking around and pretending to be on the phone until the surrounding patrons settled down…and then go again. Haha.

We got all the way to front of the que. Absolutely diabolical outcome.

Second Impossible step taken care of.

Next up was actually getting through security quickly, and the sniffer dogs and onto the tent we needed. Kept our cool through security (makes it quick, and we had no bags…also quick), then the dogs pulled us up for a moment. Remained cool…let them sniff and find nothing, and within a Micro second of the dog moving on we BOLTED. Two cops started yelling at us…I looked back, but they didn’t seem to be chasing so kept running :face_with_tears_of_joy:. Figured they could catch me up at the tent after I get my damn wrist band, if I even get there in time.

The crowd was Moving into the same direction at first, then we had a right turn and it was clear, and we ran…fast. probably for a full minute.

I’m not sure what I’m more happy about moments later…the fact I SECURED A DAMN COREY TAYLOR MEET AND GREET SPOT AT 5PM, or the fact I ran all that way at that pace and wasn’t even breathing heavy, let alone puffed out :face_with_tears_of_joy:. Not bad for 104kg.

Apologies to the girl who stepped across my path and was almost killed by a big Aussie idiot, don’t know how I managed to step around you!

3/3 impossible steps required and taken.

Meeting the man was incredible. Such a cool guy, an experience I won’t soon forget! Weren’t allowing us the take selfies or anything, but got to have a quick chat and couple bro handshakes which was Mad. To top this all off, my mate also secured us a meet and greet with A Day to Remember two days prior to the festival which was equally diabolical :face_with_tears_of_joy:, but a little easier work admittedly haha just had to show up with 120 other people. What was cool there…was that I got my limited edition LP of their new album signed…epic.

Back to the Festival…Slipknot clearly headlined, and played something a little different to what we were expecting. They didn’t play their 25th anniversary show, instead trying out a new show in Australia only for the whole leg, and I tell you what, I’m glad that they did! Very cool.

A Day to Remember were second to last, and ticking off that box after meeting them two days prior was Special. Loved every minute.

Attending an Entire days Festival is something I’ve also never done haha. 11am to 10pm…11 hours of metal, but it felt like less than half of that. Incredible day out. This morning I’m burnt, I’m tired, I’m sore, but damn! After the last three weekends music (saw Pennywise/MILLENCOLIN show twice in two weekends) Metallica have BIG Shoes to fill in November.

Still training later lol.

  • yeah. Pretty tired from yesterday. Sore feet mostly.
  • deadlifts were still great though, no real detrimental effects from 24k steps yesterday.
  • bench was flying. But really, it should be, right where I expect it. 5 sets was spot on.
  • the single Arm rows are new this cycle, really needed a row in there, and am sick of chest supported rows. These ones are fun, and very easy to keep tight.
  • smoked now.

Hopefully this video works. On my view of IG, IG has again decided to repeat one of the videos from a later slide on the first slide instead of showing the video I chose …the deadlifts. It’s really annoying me. Could be heading back to YouTube for hosting. Actually I will anyway screw it, over it.

  • quick lunchtime deadlifts. Had intended to come back in the arvo, but took the doggos on a long walk instead. Worth it.
  • not at all keen for the next session. Like at all. 60kg, for 80 reps ain’t exactly filling me with excitement :joy:, more so anxiety! Think I’ll have to change my approach, and pace out the reps abit better instead of going all out as far as I can do then rest pausing my way home lol.

  • Deadlifts were fine. I paced them a little differently so I didn’t die from hypoxia late in the set again :joy:.
  • Light day for bench, not much to report. Felt like a light day.
  • Squats back after the burner my knee copped a few weeks ago. Damn they feel weak. Probably because I did 80 reps with 60kg prior. :joy:

ROUGH night last night. Coughed up a lung at 3am, then couldnt properly sleep from then on…
Got sick of that at 6am, so got up and put 2km on the treadmill at a gentle-ish pace. It didnt make me cough more as i expected. No idea whats going on, think i just have risidual sinus irritation more than anything else. The walk cleared me out a bit. Lots of coughing and sneezing since…feels like the body is just trying to expell it all, whatever it is. Its all clear stuff…

Still working today, though I cancelled a site visit at 10am…wasnt excited about hosting a site meeting for an hour while trying to stifle a cough and sniffle LOL. Early in the project, so most things can be handled by phone/email anyway.

Might try and sneek in a nap later before training - see how we go. Could be another light/keep the cogs turning workout.

Stupid head cold had a strong resurgence. Took a couple more days off to try and fend it off. Seems to be calming down…

Had my steroid injection in the left shoulder this morning. Is this how everyone else shoulders feel? :joy:. Can’t even MAKE it hurt with the local lol. Got a couple simple rehab things to do every hour for a couple days, then we are good to go on Overhead Press after 48 hours.

It feels brand new. Maybe I should just source a supply of local anesthetic? Inject it everywhere before each session? :joy:

Notes:

  • Nice session to get moving again. Warming for squats was straight forward, everything moving like it should really. I chose to forego the knee sleeves for today, and IMO it moved better as a result. For one, they made me focus that much more on what I was doing, especially on the decent. Knees tracked better, and it felt maybe a little easier than previous session in sleeves. So I’m going to keep them on shelf from here on. Just running a simple progressing with 3x5 like I did when I brought bench back in. I’ll give it 9-10 sessions perhaps, and see how I respond.
  • Bench was good. Getting harder. Have added back offs to the heavy day, and for the next “weeks” - three sessions, I’m going to repeat all loads, rather than increase them as normal, just to account a small amount for the back off work.
  • Simple accessory for the glutes to finish. These are competed with focus, and the biggest damn glute squeeze I can muster. No rushing. Glutes are damn sore, and will hurt tomorrow :joy:.
  • Re deadlifts, the elephant in the room…No, they didn’t break me, at least not physically haha. They have outwork their welcome though honestly. I just want to get back to including other movements, squat, presses etc, and 5/7 days I’m getting my bell rung lol. Wears thin for sure. I’ve gotten exactly what I wanted from it though, and that was to grease that rusty AF groove and make them a movement I can train more often. They stay in my training every other day now, and share the lower body time with the squats and accessories. Figure I have a good amount of volume behind me now to work it more into the strength focus.
  • re the damn head cold. It’s ‘Gone’ I think. But the irritation in my sinuses remains…didn’t affect me today, so hopefully I can just carry on. Quiet weekend for us this week, so I can get a couple more productive sessions in mixed with a bit of extra sleep, should round off the recovery.

Lateral Raises:

Notes:

  • Deadlifts were ok. It felt a little heavy. But it is I guess at this stage of my training. Been a long time since I pulled my best rep set, 227.5x5, also 242.5x3. so I should be happy. Really need to stop looking at my PR board in the garage.
  • Press was good. First season after the steroid injection. It’s a bit tight and sore today as was advised it would be, but I’m allowed to use it. Not the same pain at all as prior so that’s a plus at least so far. Early days. Kept it light. Again, best set of 10 is 62.5, best set of 8 is 70! Don’t even think I’d have pressed 70x1 today. But again, stop looking. This is a reset, every set is a PR. Conservative volume to start, obviously.
  • accessories were accessorized. The laterals for the shoulders. You’ll see more of this kind of thing moving forward, try and bullet proof them. Hamstrings, too. They’ve been a bit…weird after deadlifting every day basically for like 8 weeks.
  • Was a little stiff this morning getting up after the squats yesterday, but it was a good feeling to be honest, the feeling of having used the body in a way I have missed. No adductor, or knee issues to speak of.

Carry on, Lady and Gentlemen.
