Yikes. What a crazy few days…
Didn’t train yesterday…BUT did get up early and head to Sydney for KnotFest!
Ticked off a few bucket list items musically…Saw A Day to remember and Hatebreed for the first times!
MET COREY TAYLOR in person. Wow. That was mental. And what a story I’ve got for how we did it lol. Australians are such menaces. When we want something…we find a way to make it happen.
So there was a cheeky posting on Instagram the other day, about how the first 100 people to visit the Blackcraft Cult tent inside the festival grounds would be able to secure a black wristband, which which would allow access to meet Corey in person, at 5pm that day.
My mate called me late Friday, and said “Listen let’s get there uncharacteristically for gates open, and see if we can pull that off”.
Thinking we had no chance…I thought, Fuck It.
So we go up early, and I drove us up in the Mini. Scored a Crazy good parking spot, the first of the impossible steps required sorted.
Walked the ten minutes into the venue…
DAMN. Crowd was already 3-4000 thick at the gate awaiting its open. We can’t be THOSE guys surely and push through.
OR CAN WE JUST ONE TIME. For Corey.
.
Then we realised hey, We are two big Aussie blokes in Australia, happy looking, but big. Who’s going to say anything anyway hahaha. So we got started with phones out pretending to look for our "Mates " lol. We’d move through about 5-10m, stop and settle while still looking around and pretending to be on the phone until the surrounding patrons settled down…and then go again. Haha.
We got all the way to front of the que. Absolutely diabolical outcome.
Second Impossible step taken care of.
Next up was actually getting through security quickly, and the sniffer dogs and onto the tent we needed. Kept our cool through security (makes it quick, and we had no bags…also quick), then the dogs pulled us up for a moment. Remained cool…let them sniff and find nothing, and within a Micro second of the dog moving on we BOLTED. Two cops started yelling at us…I looked back, but they didn’t seem to be chasing so kept running
. Figured they could catch me up at the tent after I get my damn wrist band, if I even get there in time.
The crowd was Moving into the same direction at first, then we had a right turn and it was clear, and we ran…fast. probably for a full minute.
I’m not sure what I’m more happy about moments later…the fact I SECURED A DAMN COREY TAYLOR MEET AND GREET SPOT AT 5PM, or the fact I ran all that way at that pace and wasn’t even breathing heavy, let alone puffed out
. Not bad for 104kg.
Apologies to the girl who stepped across my path and was almost killed by a big Aussie idiot, don’t know how I managed to step around you!
3/3 impossible steps required and taken.
Meeting the man was incredible. Such a cool guy, an experience I won’t soon forget! Weren’t allowing us the take selfies or anything, but got to have a quick chat and couple bro handshakes which was Mad. To top this all off, my mate also secured us a meet and greet with A Day to Remember two days prior to the festival which was equally diabolical
, but a little easier work admittedly haha just had to show up with 120 other people. What was cool there…was that I got my limited edition LP of their new album signed…epic.
Back to the Festival…Slipknot clearly headlined, and played something a little different to what we were expecting. They didn’t play their 25th anniversary show, instead trying out a new show in Australia only for the whole leg, and I tell you what, I’m glad that they did! Very cool.
A Day to Remember were second to last, and ticking off that box after meeting them two days prior was Special. Loved every minute.
Attending an Entire days Festival is something I’ve also never done haha. 11am to 10pm…11 hours of metal, but it felt like less than half of that. Incredible day out. This morning I’m burnt, I’m tired, I’m sore, but damn! After the last three weekends music (saw Pennywise/MILLENCOLIN show twice in two weekends) Metallica have BIG Shoes to fill in November.
Still training later lol.
Fin.
