All over Canada wins 1-0. Very tight game. Very well played by both teams. Both goalies excellent. Quick had no chance on the goal. The difference ended up being Canada’s better defencemen IMO. Could have gone either way. 2 best teams in the tournament. Canada’s forwards still have not woken up. Hopefully it happens in the gold medal game. No shame to the US, they played awesome. Canada was just a little bit more controlled.
Thanks man. Just got a chance to check in. Much appreciated
No problem. Sorry for the gap in the middle. I couldn’t get away from what I was doing.

No worries at all man, thanks a lot. I guess I will be pulling for Canada for Gold

Agree to disagree.
WHat was the difference in your opinion?

Knowing very little about hockey, so excuse my dumbassery, but this makes sense as I assume the defensemen are responsible for stopping the opponent from getting inside and clearing the puck when they do?? We seemed to constantly have our backs against the wall far more than Canada. I actually thought we got outplayed worse than the score indicated with the exception of Quick who I looked like the better of the two goalies. Every time Canada got close it seemed like Quick had to turn into a mongoose to keep it out of the net because we were unable to get control of it and Canada was on full attack. I only felt like the USA got those opportunities a couple times because Canada did a much better job regaining control of the puck after our shots. Again, this is the “I learned everything I know about Hockey from a video game” guys take.
Edit: Ranking the different positions US Goalie>Canadian Defense>Canadian Goalie>US Offense> Canadian Offense> US Defense
Great game, but what crappy ice. It looked like the ice at the rink I played shinny on where there were ridges, bumps, and exposed gravel in places. So many bouncing pucks and players just falling over for no reason other than crap ice.
Canada winning was bittersweet for me. I’m in the Dallas/Fort Worth metroplex and a huge Stars fan, so was glad to see Jamie Benn get the goal. Him, Perry, and Getzlaf are one beast of a line! Its just that ideally I would’ve wanted Jamie to get a hat trick and have the US get at least 4 goals…lol.
Also, I’ve got to go ahead and root for Finland getting the bronze…Kari Lehtonen is starting again and he deserves a medal!

I know you are a Stars / lehtonen fan but, I think Finland would have a better chance with Rask between the pipes. I’d say he’s one of the top 3 goalies in the world over the last 3 yrs. I can’t believe the number of big stars who have gone down with injury or illness in this tourney. Zetterberg (gone for season), Tavares (gone for season), Rask ( mystery illness). Unfortunately I think both the bronze and gold games will be snoozers with the Scandinavians trapping the life out of Canada and the US.
I love Lehtonen, but I’m fair and I’ll agree with you. Rask is definitely a better goalie and its unfortunate that he got ill. Lehtonen has played well though.
Those injuries do suck! For some reason I really root for Tavares. Such a great player on not so great of a team.
And I disagree on the gold game. I think it will be a good one. Not so sure about the bronze one…

Jeff Carter is my next door neighbor so when he comes home this summer I’m going to ask him about the ice conditions and how much it sucked. It probably affects him less than most because he’s such a great skater and for a tall guy he can fly.
It’s been awesome watching the games with his family and all the other supporters of him over the years. He’s been one of the best players on the ice for Canada but I’m biased as fuck lol.
Games starts at 7:00 am so the beer will be flowing early
Finland is laying a beat down, if they played with nothing to loose yesterday with Rask they would be in the gold medal game. Selanne is a playing legend cool to se ehim be so good for such a long time. Sorta like Jagr but less of a glory hog ahha.

That’s awesome that he’s your neighbour! I remember seeing him play a game in Guelph when he was on the Greyhounds and thinking to myself to remember his name because he was definitely one of those players who was going to make some noise when he got to the show. I also love how him and Richards have basically played their whole careers together, starting with the WJC in 2005. It is telling that on that team that had Crosby, Bergeron, Richards, Getzlaf, Phaneuf, Seabrook, Ladd, Perry and Weber that he was hands down the best player.

Did you hear them talk about how they only had 11 official pucks for this game? And by the end of the first, they are down to five. The announcer mentioned that the KGB came by and took back the puck the photographer sitting beside him had caught, hah.
Awesome game by Canada. They controlled it completely after the first 10 mins. This team got better with every game and it’s hard to imagine them losing a game to any team in the tourney at this point. They never trailed for a second throughout the entire tournament. It’s clear now their forwards were never going to go gangbusters and this was by design.
It’s hard to play freewheeling offense when you are playing a puck possession game. I guess we should have recognized this from the beginning with Babcock behind the bench. This team played the same way Detroit plays. Just completely controlled the puck to such a degree that the other team could never even get their sticks on it. 3 goals against in 6 games. 2 shutouts in the semi and the final.
And it’s telling that Canada gave up more goals to Latvia and Norway than they did to the US and Sweden; it’s much harder for them to get motivated against minnows than monsters. Anyways the future looks good with young guys like Duchene, Pietrangelo, and Benn followed by guys coming up like Mackinnon and McDavid. Also, Crosby, Toews, Bergeron, Price, Perry, Getzlaf etc. all probably have 1-2 more Olympics in them. Go Canada, Go!!!
