Windfall Profits Tax??

We fell for that ONCE. It will not happen again.

Corporations should start paying 100% of their taxes.

That would be a great start.

They do. Governmernt gives them huge tax breaks and incentives to hire more workers which widens the tax base.

Everyone wants someone else to pay more tax. How about we just quit spending so damn much money in DC?

I think that would be a better place to start.

Well, up here in Yankee-land, we’ve got these companies called GM, Ford, Delphi, and so on. They lose billions of dollars, cut employees and benefits left and right, and are pretty much bankrupt. Would you prefer to have THOSE companies in your local economy, or Exxon-Mobil?

Think about it: for a lousy 3 bucks or so, you get to drive 30 or so miles in your Ford Focus. What a bargain! Would you like to walk? Didn’t think so. The oil companies give us this magnificent benefit and you want to punish them. You want the right to earn your money, but not let them earn theirs. They are fortunate that supplies are tight while India and China are booming. They make a lot of $$$, which you’d deny them. That is unjust.

Let’s make a deal: when oil DOES turn around and the companies are losing money, you agree to have 10% of your paycheck witheld to support those companies. In exchange, you can have price controls (which’ll create vast shortages) today. Sound like a deal?

Of course he is. I posted this thread to bait him into saying this.

Read some of the other stuff I’ve baited him with. He thinks I’m stupid so let’s his guard down. I’ve said over and over how the Left is really out to control all of us and he’s the perfect guy to demo the truth — 3 phds (if real), works in the ultimate ivory tower, buddies with top libs.

windfall profits tax doesnt work. Check your history books. Economists on both sides of the isle, (and in between, check the non partisan Congressional Research Services studies on the Carter admins attempt at this) all show that it DOES NOT Work. It stiffles the market, reduced exploration and ultimately leads to higher gas prices.

Yes, let’s introduce price controls and profit controls. This will encourage oil companies to hunt for more oil.

Let’s also put controls in place about how much gasoline each person is alloted per month. In fact, let’s control EVERYTHING, telling each person exactly what to do all the time and in every way!! Let’s put televisions in every room of every house that WORK BOTH WAYS, so people can be watched and controlled.

Stop pulling the slippery slope bullshit. Total capitalism is crap. Total socialism is crap. Complete non-involvement is retarded. Total control is tyranny. The middle is the place to be.

Lmfao. You are waaaaaaay to paranoid buddy.

The right-wing is filled with dirty liars and scum, controlled by large corparations, and cares little for the actual people.

The left-wing is filled with dirty liars and scum, controlled by large corparations, and cares little for the actual people.

Democrats and republicans shouldn’t be fighting. We should be reforming our entire political system. The two party system makes everything black or white. Good or evil. everything must be absolute. Hick, war-hawk, conservative, crazy-christian Republican. Pussy, hippy, liberal Democrat. These are the terrible choices we are given.

The government should have limited control over the economy, but control none the less. Absolute Laisse Faire only works, just like Absolute Communism, when the people are not greedy and/or basterds. We all know that the people in charge are greedy and/or basterds. Neither system can work.

Please show me where I said they didn’t have a right to make a profit.

You can’t. Because I said they didn’t have a right to collude to gouge people.
Which they’ve done.

But, of course, anyone who disagrees with you is a communist and a fascist.

Not at all. If they’ve broken a just law, then lock 'em up and throw away the key. Look, big oil makes about 9 cents on every gallon of gasoline they sell to you. How is that gouging? You’re complaint is with all the power-mad politicians who won’t cut the taxes and cut the spending.

Also, if you want lower prices, tell the people of China and India that they can’t develop their economies — Harris wants $2/gallon gasoline. Like most libs, you’re fine when someone else is paying or is hurt, but don’t dare come into my backyard.

Liberals and environmentalists have fucked us. They forbade exploration, forbade building refineries, all in the face of giant countries industrializing. What’d they expect to happen? You’re now paying more, but the seagulls and penguins are happier! Why are you complaining?

Um, no.

A PO Box in the Caymans is not the goverment’s way of giving companies tax relief.

If you sell stuff here you should pay taxes on your sales.

You just don’t get it.

So, I should pay more taxes so that corporations can pay close to nothing.

Who forces these multinational corporations to hire people with the profits they get as a result of skirting their tax responsbilities?

Answer: No one. They pocket the money.

Citizens should be taxed while corporations should not…that makes perfect sense to me.

It costs that much because we are willing to pay for it…period.

FYI - Vehicle maintenance and depreciation is more expensive than fueling it. The only reason people are pissed about the prices is because they are contantly reminded of it when they pass a gas station or fill up their tank.

This “taxes” bullshit is the worst argument.

Have taxes on gas gone up so much in the past two years that the price went up 30%?

And, if so, why has profit gone up the exact same 30%?
