A blood test from March 2022 reported free testosterone of 12.5 pg/mL with a reference range of 8.7 to 25.1. This was with labcorp.
Another test recently taken (earlier this month) reported a free testosterone of 77.3 pg/mL with a reference range of 46-224 (quest).
Why would the labs report different ranges and is there a way to compare them? I checked the units and it’s pg/mL for both.
Different labs use different equipment and/or testing methods. Thats why its super important to include lab ranges with your results. Due to the differing methods they have a different range that avg men fall in for FT results. Its not overly complicated of an explanation.
For example, when you test concrete you can batch pour into cylinders and perform break tests a different time intervals. Depending on when you break it the strength will differ. Further you could swiss hammer the cured slab and come up with a completely different strength. Point being… different methods yield different results.
