Why the mantra "get stronger to get bigger" is bad advice and how strength training infiltrated bodybuilding

It was actually quite impressive.

I argued with him a lot, but of course could not spend whole day discussing something as important as what to call different different people at the gym.

But every time I came back he was here arguing with someone else.

Well for one im glad that I got educated on certain matters.

I mean i didn’t realize that Starting Strength was not the best option for being a competitive Bodybuilding.

Powerlifting is just a mental construct of the mind.

If you compete in Bodybuilding but train with a Powerlifting methodology, you are not a bodybuilder. You don’t even need to compete to be a bodybuilder as long as you identify as one. Same for powerlifting. Also, powerbuilding is an abomination.

I still chuckle that, to this day, my best competition bench was accomplished while running DoggCrapp.

I think it’s cool that William Schatner has a starting strength t-shirt.

He’s looking exceedingly pink these days.

Sandow was the first real bodybuilder. The reason he resorted to bodybuilding as a profession is because Saxon broke his bent press records very quickly. Sandow knew he couldn’t compete with Saxon.

So strength was the roots of bodybuilding really as Sandow had already built that look from strength training, but he also did a lot of interesting movements.

Ironic that his name is “Rip” when it should clearly be “Bulk”. Maybe he just identifies as being ripped

Surely. Not sure Mark Bulkytoe would sell so well though.

The program should also be called Starting Powerlifting Methodology.

Yep he was definitely a solid combination back in the day.

Probably one of the best examples of the importance of genetics. Dude was never training to bodybuild, but simply through the process of training to get stronger, his body turned into that.

The further I get into this game, the less I think bodybuilding is about training and the more I think it’s about genetics and diet. Everyone is making their muscles bigger when they train: some dudes just end up looking awesome when they do it, and others just look like Lurch from the Adam’s Family. Bodybuilding is a survival sport, where those with the best genetics will eventually fleet up to the top and those without drown.

Justin Harris summed it up that it’s about whoever can eat the most chicken and rice meals without faltering wins. “Genetics” can be about muscle insertions and stuff like that, but also the ability to tolerate the drugs and to not become diabetic from the eating.

We pretty much share the same mind set on the matter.
