Yup. Himmler, I believe, was one of those who missed out on the front. Then again, I think there were an awful lot of real veterans in the Freikorps, Stahlhelm, and eventually the SA.
At any rate, the constant hyper-nationalism and exhortations to enlist from a guy who never served, medical issues or not, are pretty tiresome.
