I also forgot to add that what you’re asking for actually is enormous considering who doesn’t want to leave you alone and I’ve yet to meet a small-government person or libertarian explain to me how they’re going to get a this small government meritocracy.
There actually is a way, but they’ve never told me it.
More like the way I see it is the world works is by the imposition of will. I don’t know how having people understood me or not can stop them from imposing their will on me.
We are forced together. There is no freedom of association in the US.
What neither the left nor the right seem to understand is this…
When trump shits all over your rights, the democrats are mad and republicans are okay with it.
When biden shits all over your rights, the democrats are happy and republicans are mad.
So why don’t we find the common denominator… which is that WE DONT LIKE HAVING OUR RIGHTS TRAMPLED. This shouldn’t be this hard, but I blame the idiocy of polarization for allowing this to happen. Populism shouldn’t be so popular.
As much as I dislike Musk and his business practices, I’m happy to see him buy Twitter and witness all of the woke authoritarian leftists lose their shit over it.
I would hope this encompasses the Bill of Rights and life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.
If this somehow isn’t agreed upon, then I suggest whoever disagrees find a country whose rights are more suited to their beliefs. These are the core of our institution and should remain uninfringed.
My reference to different parties trampling rights was more rhetoric than specific examples, but I’m certain anyone in either party could find examples of rights being infringed upon.
There’s about a 50/50 split(give or take a couple, and depending on the issue) in the Supreme Court at any time. You think Boobus Americanus is any more in agreement?
From a power perspective that’s true, and therefore not false
From a love perspective there’s truth to what he was trying to say as well
Having people understand me to an extent can make them less interested in imposing there will on me. Having people understand me too well could make it too easy for those that are truly dedicated to imposing their will.
On the further flipped side, greater understanding across the board could provide less useful idiots to benefit those that are truly dedicated. I wouldn’t expect that to happen soon, but I’ll put some effort on occasion to help facilitate it
Good point on the quoted part, love is blind and that can be a dangerous blind spot
Thanks. I don’t know if understanding and love seal the deal in any way though. There are actually people who I think are nice, have good intentions, understand, and even love, who morally support, condone, or excuse things I consider unacceptable or want stamped out or at least seriously dealt with. Despite those feelings for them, I still want my will imposed on them or more practically speaking, a ruler doing it for me.
Many of these supposedly understanding people in the middle are squeamish and like politicians, cannot deal with things in a serious manner. Some of them even continue to support things that have failed for nearly eighty years despite overwhelming destructive evidence!
A huge chunk of the American population, including “nice people”, is obscenely permissive, short-sighted, undisciplined, hedonistic, criminal, dumb, literally mentally ill, addicted, and irrational. No, I don’t want their will imposed on me through mass democracy even though I am an understanding guy and like or love some of them. But they will continue to do so and I accept that.
For sure they don’t, not by themselves, but if there is not enough then there can only by tyranny. Tyranny of whatever form.
Power and will wouldn’t seal the deal by themselves either. Well it could but it wouldn’t be pretty.
Construction requires destroying something, which requires power and will. I would strongly prefer those trade-offs be considered from a perspective of love and understanding, but it is not literally required.
I’m about 10 years younger than you and Andrewgen_Receptors is probably about 10 years younger than me. You seemed to have him in checkmate in a sense but I think he was onto something also, just not ready to express it well enough yet.
“We” need both sides in some kind of balance even if every individual doesn’t
I thought I agreed with what you said at first, but then I thought about the pieces and I wonder
You want a ruler to impose his/your will on people so that they are unable to condone or excuse what you consider unacceptable.
That possibly threatens freedom of speech
Granted, such a ruler would be preferably preventing the unacceptable in the first place. So there would be nothing to condone or excuse in the second place.
But there’s a trap there, it can seem that you would like to be guilty of similar problems, but from another side. I don’t see you that way, but that’s a possible trap for many that would agree with you
So I agree with what you wrote and would probably agree on what you consider unacceptable, at least on the early iterations. Had to derive it though (which I like doing)
