Why Do People Care?

I don’t think anyone denies the physical laws of the universe. And I think the bigger mistake made by pro science people is to mistake an understanding of the equations with an understanding of the nature of the universe.
I think this conversation has evolved (get it?) into an intelligent discussion of the nature of existence and God etc. I too am an agnostic believer in some sort of first cause which I call God.

I find it harder to believe in/wrap my head around an infinite regress in causality than to accept that matter and energy had a definite origin and that said origin must by definition be free of the physical laws under which all subsequent events have operated. If a miracle is an otherwise inexplicable violation of physical law, and a fundamental law of physics is that matter cannot be either created or destroyed, then by its very existence matter is itself a miracle.

However, these are big questions. They have been debated to no end by intellectual titans and have still not been resolved. The truth of the matter is that none of us know. We can talk about it and think about it endlessly–and we should–but for someone to stand up and have the arrogance to tell me that they not only know for a fact that God exists but are also intimately familiar with His wishes, hopes, and plans for humanity is offensive. If the greatest philosophers in human history struggled to prove and/or disprove God’s existence, what gives a guy from Alabama with nothing more than a high school education the right to claim that God is this and that and he hates homosexuals and he doesn’t want people to wear condoms and if we don’t sit in His fancy building every Sunday we’re going to burn in hell?

Scratch that, he certainly has the right to claim and think whatever he wants. But when the unfounded superstitions of my neighbor affect the law of my land, I have a problem. That is why I care about religion in America.
Given the great expanse of the cosmos, what gives us the right to think HE has a plan for US at all? If you construct this great farm, do you have a plan for the ants?
I agree completely. I suspect that something outside of our physical world must have set in motion (though I understand that this may not be the case). Other than that, I believe that very little about the nature of God can be known at all. I don’t understand how people can be stupid enough to claim to know ‘His’ plan, or to even know that He HAS a plan.

Sometimes I hope they’re right and that there IS a supreme being watching over us, just so that He (She?) can find each one of these arrogant pricks after they’ve died and tell them how fucking insulting it is to watch a worthless braindead piece of shit rolling around in the dust on Earth pretending to know the inner psychology of a divine being.

Human arrogance has few limitations.
Well said.

Spreading libel across the Internet is NOT how you stay on topic. I understand you didn’t like me mentioning that you are addicted to porn. The reason I said that was pretty obvious. You have a trail of posts which brag about how to shoot porn movies. You’ve also threatened to beat people up over the internet. And you bragged about cheating on your wife. These are things that I’ve gotten from YOUR posts. For you to call me a “felon” is border-line crazy, which is hat I’m beginning to think you are.

You’ve created a scenario which you know is not true and now you are going to repeat it to get your jolly’s off. And the more you slander someone’s good name the more credibility you lose.

One last time, if you want to stay on topic, I’m ready. If you want to seek some sort of revenge for me mentioning your horrid post history I suggest that you actually bring up things that I’ve done. If you can’t find any a lie will not do it!

You are going from Internet Tough Guy to Internet libeler. Your child would be so proud.

Meaningless because you worship an omnipotent god who decided to send himself down to earth and sacrifice himself to himself. Its a meaningless “sacrifice”. Any “pain and sorrow that he had to endure” means nothing when the only cause of his pain and sorrow was himself.
He sacrificed himself so that others could live for eternity in heaven. And I would argue that if you sacrifice yourself for say your own child it would still be a sacrifice and a great one indeed. yet, no where near what God did for us.
Is your son and your daughter proud?

Are you really just stupid or are you just libeling me by claiming (falsely) repeatedly that I cheated on my “wife” when I did no such thing?

Are you not guilty of:

Argument (false) By Repetition (adding this to your field guide)
Argument by Selection Observation
Argument by Selective Reading
Character Assassination
Ad hominems
Non-sequiturs
Lies
Quoting out of Context
Association Fallacy

And everything else contained in your field guide?

And now you’re making an Appeal to Pity?!

ZEB my boy, in one thread-blazing stand to self-righteous assholery, you were the gate-keeper of all that is logical. And in the “defense” of the logical, you employed EVERY fallacious argument form you could muster…and NOW you want to get back on track?

I AM on track. I’m on YOUR track. I want to talk about your family, your wife and your children as you have alluded to mine in your posts to me. So, I’ll ask you again felon: Did you convert to Christianity before or after the whole Fraud thing? It’s not libel if it’s true dear friend - I have an internet reference just like you have my alleged “admission” that I cheated on my “wife”.

Because I LOVE showing anyone reading this thread how much of a blithering idiot you are, here is my “confession” about cheating. When you can find a reference to “wife”, you let us all know genius.

And now that you started this, I’m not stopping until we finish. If you don’t like it, you’re welcome to come “straighten me out” felon.

OK. Cheating is wrong. But you know what else is wrong? All you guys lying about never cheating and adamantly saying things like “Nope”, “Never considered it”, “Never will”. We rose from apes. We did not descend from fairy tales. The fact is humans by nature are NOT monogamous. 85% of men cheat and something like 60% of women cheat. And you’re gonna tell me that the few wholesome ones are here on T-Nation, huh? Hahaha. Hitler never cheated on his wife but Churchill, Roosevelt and other great leaders had mistresses.

Another thing, a man can be in love with a woman and not want that fun, exciting, dirty whore sex with her because he loves her. A man has fun sex usually with a woman he doesnt give a shit about. My 2 cents though.

P.S. Everyone needs to get real here.
You took the words out of my mouth except I was going to say something like “you lying motherfuckers”.

I’ve cheated, numerous times. There is never a good reason or justification. Is it a terrible betrayal? Generally yes, but depending on the “relationship”, perhaps not so much. I’m human. I make mistakes. I think I have learned from most of them. So, my answer is yes, I have cheated.

The only answer that matters is will I cheat in the future? I think I can safely answer no. We are not defined by our past, but what we are doing right this moment.
Capped, you’ll notice good ole ZEB’s lost much of his edge in his last reply to you. That’s because I’m calling him on his bullshit. I’m MAKING him be respectful because I’m pulling his strings. You can continue to engage this alleged Christian without fear of his cowardly attacks and arsenal of fallacious argument technique.

“For every tree is known by his own fruit. For of thorns men do not gather figs, nor of a bramble bush gather they grapes.” - Luke 6:44

Because ZEB is thorny.

18 A good tree cannot bring forth evil fruit, neither can a corrupt tree bring forth good fruit.
19 Every tree that bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down, and cast into the fire.
20 Wherefore by their fruits ye shall know them. - Matthew 7:15

Because ZEB has dropped rotten fruit throughout every thread where someone disagrees with him. ZEB, the corrupt tree, bearer of rotten fruit.

Romans 12:1-2 “Therefore, I urge you, brothers, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God - this is your spiritual act of worship. Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is - his good, pleasing and perfect will.”

Perhaps God should have simply said “do not be an internet troll”. Surely ZEB would have obeyed if God had been more clear.

Dude, are you taking your prescribed medication?

Spoiler Alert:

Backed into a corner like a dog taking a newspaper lashing for shitting on the carpet (except I’m beating him with EVIDENCE), will ZEB admit his error, or will he employ some religious calculus and claim that you cannot “cheat” on anyone but your wife? Stay tuned!!! You can be sure it will be entertaining and he’s sure to shit in the house again!

I’m still waiting for my 2nd edition guide to ZEB’s dirty tactics to be posted. Is he being protected? Why does he require protection?

EDIT:

In an effort to keep you all up-to-date on ZEB’s dirty tactics, I have updated the guidebook cataloging his various dirty tactics and fallacious argument techniques. To know his tactics, is to know ZEB. Without further ado, ZEB’s Comprehensive Guide to Dirty Internet Fighting, Fallacious Argument Types and Cowardly Attacks (2nd Edition):

 1. Obfuscation.

He rarely engages in the text book example of this because once you disagree with him, he rarely actually attempts to make a cogent point. However, all his other tactics are used in an attempt to obfuscate and avoid meaningful dialogue.

http://en.wikipedia.org/...iki/Obfuscation

 1. Quoting out of Context.

This is really a favorite of his. He’ll build a straw man (more on that later) and cherry pick a quote to feed his straw man. Also, in an attempt to make any reply to him damn near impossible, he will pick apart and respond to discrete sentences, rendering any response on the forum a jumbled confusion and more trouble than it’s worth.

He engages in the sentence by sentence reply not for an attempt at clarity, but to preclude you from rebutting his attacks and tactics. So desperate is his reach in the quoting out of context tactic, that he actually searched for a humorous post of mine from SAMA about making home porn, to make a “point” in this thread.

http://en.wikipedia.org/…_out_of_context

 1. Ad Hominem.

This is a favorite of his. It’s quite transparent and requires no further explanation. He’s employing this now in the Jihad thread. He’s attacking someone’s age and experience instead of addressing their arguments. He has also disdainfully labeled some of you here, “atheist” for no other reason than your views do not comport with his own. Since you do not believe in “God”, you surely cannot have a dialogue about God right?

http://en.wikipedia.org/...wiki/Ad_hominem

 1. Association Fallacy.

He has done this several times in this thread. “Bodyguard made a (humorous, tongue in cheek) guide to making better home porn”…“Bodyguard is addicted to porn”.

http://en.wikipedia.org/...ciation_fallacy

 1. Character Assassination.

A favorite of cowards worldwide. ZEB even tries to bring to bear my “confession” (haha, lol I knew he’s like that) in the SAMA cheating thread to this thread. That “myth” was busted.

http://en.wikipedia.org/...r_assassination

 1. Fundamental Attribution Error.

This is a favorite of our Good Christian ZEB. ZEB will pull you into the mud with him, start rasslin with ya, and then turn around and yell for everyone to hear how muddy you are, while he himself is still covered in slime. Also related to Appeal to Pity.

http://en.wikipedia.org/...tribution_error

 1. False Consensus Effect.

This is illustrated where he attempts to bolster his attacks with the similar attacks of someone like Cortes. Remember in high school where one girl decided she didn’t like another girl anymore? What did she do? She attempted to enlist her girlfriends to disliking the girl. Once her girlfriends shared their disdain for the target of her hatred, the girl could then proclaim the target of her hatred, “unpopular”. ZEB still remembers his high school days quite well, in spite of his advanced age. You will notice that Cortes is Zeb’s favorite cohort to enlist. It’s a short list, but it’s all ZEB has.

http://en.wikipedia.org/...onsensus_effect

 1. Straw Man.

A favorite of his, requires no real explanation.

http://en.wikipedia.org/.../wiki/Straw_man

 1. LIE.

As old as the snake in the garden of eden. Just lie. Quite amazing that the Christian on the site would adopt the ways of the snake. “You cheated on your wife, multiple times”.

http://en.wikipedia.org/...sambiguation)

 1. Argument By Selective Observation:

Also called cherry picking, the enumeration of favorable circumstances, or as the philosopher Francis Bacon described it, counting the hits and forgetting the misses. For example, a state boasts of the Presidents it has produced, but is silent about its serial killers.

He cherry picks posts from such high brow places like GAL and SAMA and tries to paint an unflattering picture of you.

 1. Non Sequitur.

This is another favorite of our Good Man. I’m surprised I missed it the first time as he has employed it consistently. For example, “Bodyguard wrote a primer (tongue in cheek) about home porn. Bodyguard is addicted to porn.” Or, “Bodyguard wrote a home porn primer on the adult section of an adult web site. Bodyguard is a great example to kids”. See also Association Fallacy.

 1. Changing the Subject.

This is used simultaneously with the other tactics. It’s the linchpin in his arsenal. Also commonly known as Digression, Red Herring, Misdirection, False Emphasis.

This tactic is generally used to avoid having to defend a claim or make a real rebuttal. He reduces a thread to a series of personal attacks, thereby avoiding engaging in actual rebuttal. This tactic is diversionary in nature, and is often just obstructive, obtuse, or needling. For example, ZEB will often quibble about a poor analogy, or the grammar or spelling a person used. This tactic is an attempt to change the subject and make his target the object of ridicule (see number 7, False Consensus Effect). ZEB doesn’t want to argue your idea, or defend his claims, he wants to nit pick your post.

 1. Failure to State:

If you make enough attacks, and ask enough questions, you may never have to actually define your own position on the topic. This is a ZEB keystone.

 1. Needling.

This is a ZEB favorite. Needling is used to simply attempt to make the other person angry, without trying to address the argument at hand. “See, I told everyone you’re an internet bully!!” This is also used as a delay tactic to avoid actually discussing the topic. When ZEB meets resistance, he rather talk about YOU, and not the topic.

 1. Argument from Age.

ZEB employed this one in the Jihad thread when he disagreed with the position of a younger poster. The younger poster was being respectful, but assertive of their position, but was nonetheless maligned by ZEB because…they didn’t agree with ZEB!!!

 1. Argument by Dismissal.

ZEB will reject your argument, without actually saying why, and in place of stating an actual rebuttal, he will employ various fallacious and dirty tactics from this guide. He’ll needle, cherry pick, etc.

 1. Argument by Emotive Language.

Another crutch employed by ZEB. “You’re ATTACKING Christianity” (when you’re merely questioning it). “You’re DEMEANING Christianity” (when you merely don’t accept it’s origins). He uses hyperbole, to take attention away from any argument you made, and to avoid having to offer substantive rebuttal.

 1. Appeal to Pity.

ZEB just used this one and it’s new. After slandering me and employing all of his dirty tactics, he cried foul when I revealed he is a felon. He even tried to use my 5 year old by stating my “son would be proud” - instead of addressing the charges or sharing with us how HIS son felt when HE got into trouble.

 1. Argument by Vehemence.

If you have the facts, pound on the facts. If you have the law, pound on the law. If you don’t have either, pound on the table.

ZEB pounds on the table, repeatedly and loudly. This tactic is an act of intellectual desperation. ZEB probably engages in this, and his other dirty and fallacious tactics, to discourage anyone in the future from challenging him.

ZEB is about 56 now. As some people age, they become less tolerant to other ideas and opinions. Whereas about 8 years ago, ZEB was eager, even respectful of other opinions, he has now settled into the familiar of the aged: “I’m right, and you’re stupid if you don’t agree with me.”

 1. Cliche Thinking.

He’ll needle you endlessly. He’ll disrespect you. He’ll lie. He’ll reference your family - all in an effort to incite you. And then when you react, he’ll fall back on the cry of cowards all over the internet and call you “an internet tough guy”.

 1. Argument by Half Truth.

“Bodyguard has admitted to cheating” leads to “bodyguard cheated on his wife, multiple times”.

 1. Pious Fraud.

ZEB has claimed that he is doing God’s work by employing all these dirty tactics. He has interrupted at least two threads now where a discussion of religion was taking place. Why? Because there are people there (who he branded atheists) that disagree with or have questions Christianity, or even religion in general.

We have now identified 22 dirty and fallacious tactics used by ZEB. This is our 2nd Edition. I’m quite certain there will be a need for a 3rd Edition and perhaps it’s own thread to educate those in need.

Well articulated.

I particularly enjoy his demonstration of Christian virtue here and on another thread he went postal on. Apparently just saying “I’m an Atheist” was tantamount to “religion bashing”, while having some loon rant about how all Atheists were closeted religious people with… is somehow suppose to demonstrate not only the truth of scripture but why I should want to follow it even if it were demonstrably true.

I’m so glad the board has a block function…

He’s quite the piece of work. I know my ZEB “field guide” seems quite long, but he actually employed every single one of those tactics. The man is bitter, bored and insecure. He only intends to annoy. He’s the guy that gives you the finger as he’s exiting the highway.

The sad thing is that if one kernel of truth were given in earnest reply, maybe it lights a spark for someone to do additional research and come to his faith. You notice he did not care to zero in on those that would reference his God as the “flying spaghetti monster” - because he didn’t view them to be a threat to that he holds dear. He targeted me because I was trying to have a rational dialogue and I wanted to ask some tough questions and sincerely wanted to hear answers. Like I said, if your faith is so strong, why act so weak?
