- Obfuscation.
He rarely engages in the text book example of this because once you disagree with him, he rarely actually attempts to make a cogent point. However, all his other tactics are used in an attempt to obfuscate and avoid meaningful dialogue.

- Quoting out of Context.
This is really a favorite of his. He’ll build a straw man (more on that later) and cherry pick a quote to feed his straw man. Also, in an attempt to make any reply to him damn near impossible, he will pick apart and respond to discrete sentences, rendering any response on the forum a jumbled confusion and more trouble than it’s worth.
He engages in the sentence by sentence reply not for an attempt at clarity, but to preclude you from rebutting his attacks and tactics. So desperate is his reach in the quoting out of context tactic, that he actually searched for a humorous post of mine from SAMA about making home porn, to make a “point” in this thread.

- Ad Hominem.
This is a favorite of his. It’s quite transparent and requires no further explanation. He’s employing this now in the Jihad thread. He’s attacking someone’s age and experience instead of addressing their arguments. He has also disdainfully labeled some of you here, “atheist” for no other reason than your views do not comport with his own. Since you do not believe in “God”, you surely cannot have a dialogue about God right?

- Association Fallacy.

A favorite of cowards worldwide. ZEB even tries to bring to bear my “confession” (haha, lol I knew he’s like that) in the SAMA cheating thread to this thread. That “myth” was busted.

- Fundamental Attribution Error.
This is a favorite of our Good Christian ZEB. ZEB will pull you into the mud with him, start rasslin with ya, and then turn around and yell for everyone to hear how muddy you are, while he himself is still covered in slime. Also related to Appeal to Pity.

- False Consensus Effect.
This is illustrated where he attempts to bolster his attacks with the similar attacks of someone like Cortes. Remember in high school where one girl decided she didn’t like another girl anymore? What did she do? She attempted to enlist her girlfriends to disliking the girl. Once her girlfriends shared their disdain for the target of her hatred, the girl could then proclaim the target of her hatred, “unpopular”. ZEB still remembers his high school days quite well, in spite of his advanced age. You will notice that Cortes is Zeb’s favorite cohort to enlist. It’s a short list, but it’s all ZEB has.

- LIE.

- Argument By Selective Observation:
Also called cherry picking, the enumeration of favorable circumstances, or as the philosopher Francis Bacon described it, counting the hits and forgetting the misses. For example, a state boasts of the Presidents it has produced, but is silent about its serial killers.
He cherry picks posts from such high brow places like GAL and SAMA and tries to paint an unflattering picture of you.
- Non Sequitur.
This is another favorite of our Good Man. I’m surprised I missed it the first time as he has employed it consistently. For example, “Bodyguard wrote a primer (tongue in cheek) about home porn. Bodyguard is addicted to porn.” Or, “Bodyguard wrote a home porn primer on the adult section of an adult web site. Bodyguard is a great example to kids”. See also Association Fallacy.
- Changing the Subject.
This is used simultaneously with the other tactics. It’s the linchpin in his arsenal. Also commonly known as Digression, Red Herring, Misdirection, False Emphasis.
This tactic is generally used to avoid having to defend a claim or make a real rebuttal. He reduces a thread to a series of personal attacks, thereby avoiding engaging in actual rebuttal. This tactic is diversionary in nature, and is often just obstructive, obtuse, or needling. For example, ZEB will often quibble about a poor analogy, or the grammar or spelling a person used. This tactic is an attempt to change the subject and make his target the object of ridicule (see number 7, False Consensus Effect). ZEB doesn’t want to argue your idea, or defend his claims, he wants to nit pick your post.
- Failure to State:
If you make enough attacks, and ask enough questions, you may never have to actually define your own position on the topic. This is a ZEB keystone.
- Needling.
This is a ZEB favorite. Needling is used to simply attempt to make the other person angry, without trying to address the argument at hand. “See, I told everyone you’re an internet bully!!” This is also used as a delay tactic to avoid actually discussing the topic. When ZEB meets resistance, he rather talk about YOU, and not the topic.
- Argument from Age.
ZEB employed this one in the Jihad thread when he disagreed with the position of a younger poster. The younger poster was being respectful, but assertive of their position, but was nonetheless maligned by ZEB because…they didn’t agree with ZEB!!!
- Argument by Dismissal.
ZEB will reject your argument, without actually saying why, and in place of stating an actual rebuttal, he will employ various fallacious and dirty tactics from this guide. He’ll needle, cherry pick, etc.
- Argument by Emotive Language.
Another crutch employed by ZEB. “You’re ATTACKING Christianity” (when you’re merely questioning it). “You’re DEMEANING Christianity” (when you merely don’t accept it’s origins). He uses hyperbole, to take attention away from any argument you made, and to avoid having to offer substantive rebuttal.
- Appeal to Pity.
ZEB just used this one and it’s new. After slandering me and employing all of his dirty tactics, he cried foul when I revealed he is a felon. He even tried to use my 5 year old by stating my “son would be proud” - instead of addressing the charges or sharing with us how HIS son felt when HE got into trouble.
- Argument by Vehemence.
If you have the facts, pound on the facts. If you have the law, pound on the law. If you don’t have either, pound on the table.
ZEB pounds on the table, repeatedly and loudly. This tactic is an act of intellectual desperation. ZEB probably engages in this, and his other dirty and fallacious tactics, to discourage anyone in the future from challenging him.
ZEB is about 56 now. As some people age, they become less tolerant to other ideas and opinions. Whereas about 8 years ago, ZEB was eager, even respectful of other opinions, he has now settled into the familiar of the aged: “I’m right, and you’re stupid if you don’t agree with me.”
- Cliche Thinking.
He’ll needle you endlessly. He’ll disrespect you. He’ll lie. He’ll reference your family - all in an effort to incite you. And then when you react, he’ll fall back on the cry of cowards all over the internet and call you “an internet tough guy”.
- Argument by Half Truth.
“Bodyguard has admitted to cheating” leads to “bodyguard cheated on his wife, multiple times”.
- Pious Fraud.
ZEB has claimed that he is doing God’s work by employing all these dirty tactics. He has interrupted at least two threads now where a discussion of religion was taking place. Why? Because there are people there (who he branded atheists) that disagree with or have questions Christianity, or even religion in general.
We have now identified 22 dirty and fallacious tactics used by ZEB. This is our 2nd Edition. I’m quite certain there will be a need for a 3rd Edition and perhaps it’s own thread to educate those in need.
