Who You Jivin With That Cosmik Debris

The crux of the biscuit is the apostrophe!

oh i found you!!

charliehorse is over here too???

i’m so out of the loop :frowning:

sorry to hear your back has been getting to you. mine starts driving me bonkers every time it starts looking like i’m actually making progress with getting stronger on my squat :frowning:

i’m working on neutral spine, too. need to use a side on view of a mirror. aiming for flat back… but i need to figure some stuffs about neutral spine since i’m suspecting i might be overcompensating sometimes…

Sexy Lexy!

Yeah me back, guess no one is doing any oly lifting over in PW anyone more :frowning: Hopefully DebraD is keeping things going with oly for us wimmenz on here.
I plan to get back to it of course, just gonna take maybe 2 months off build things back up. Im concentrating on swimming at the moment, I lost so much swimming fitness its ridiculous.

Saturday, I’m not sure about that Rolfer, she’s more mentally guiding me rather than actually doing some rolfing. Which is fine, just not sure if I can afford to do things this way. I am definitely taking her advice, using my breath, some of her posture stuff, etc.

Sunday I went on a 45 min fab snorkel, I was able to do a few circuits around the bouys, went out much farther & did more than I thought. The sun was shining, the viz was clear (for a change). Ah so nice. It’s a bit too early in the year for fishies yet, so I saw no life. I did pick up one piece of garbage, doing my part for the environment

Walked to work this morning & went to a quickie pool at lunch. I LOVE the water, H2-whoooo!

Don’t be mad…peeking in to check on you…glad you are progressing…three steps forward…two steps back…you will get there!

aw, i’ve just been pretty slack with keeping up with the boards pretty generally since my move. things are still pretty hectic for me truth be told though i’m really hoping that i’ll settle into my new schedule. at the moment i feel like there aren’t enough hours in the day… it is really important for me to keep up with peoples journeys, though. i’m still doing oly lifting - just trying not to beat mysef up too much for sucking. i’ll start back posting what i’m up to more in particular…

Thanks for the puppy pic Kairiki

Lexy, ok glad to hear you have not given up on Oly lifting. Ha you never sucked! Your lifts always look elegant, much better than some of the guys I’ve seen.

I will also, once I get back to it, be changing around my training ideals myself.

Mon went to pool at lunch, very brief session though
Tues did some made up somatic exercises and some of the other rehab stuff. Did it all very slowly with lots of breaks in between.

Which is why I’m surprised I got a really bad pain on Wed. Although probably more to do with sitting at desk than anything. It my monthly time too, so maybe that had to do with it. Had a real bad head/neck ache and got a massage. But on the way home, I could feel my left rib area tightening up and my sternum near the heart. It was so close it actually made my heart feel like it was jumping a bit, kinda scary actually. Got home and took a valium. so I missed last night’s pool session with diving club.

Today planning on pool today at lunch time.

how did it go?

Hey Lula, swimming was fine. Didn’t feel as fun though, I added 2 more laps, so up to 8 now. On a couple of them I was ‘booking’. Came back from Dr, she suggested maybe another couple of weeks before putting scuba tank on my back. My heart seems to be fine, must just be some stress and the thoracic muscles tightening around it.

Had another scary episode yesterday on the bus. Taking a 3 day weekend. Tried to get in to see osteopath but he was all booked up. Called my Rolfer and she said to just make sure I don’t do any shallow breathing, do my stretches & stuff. Think the magnesium oil helps. I’m trying to look through some somatic exercises to see which ones will help me.

If Somatics is the way to go, then do as many as possible. If you try to guess which exercises for which muscles, you’ll probably guess wrong.

Ha you’re probably right, the thing is I’ve only seen a couple exercises here & there on vids. I might go visit a practitioner, just so they can show me, one vid I was looking at was actually giving corrections to moves I’ve never seen.

I found this along my search’s **warning she talks like a hippie

actually did up to 14 minutes of it, it was a bit of a struggle, but things are feeling a bit better now. Tiny twitches of spasms but gonna go put some mag oil on me now. I’ll see if I can add a minute extra tomorrow, and so forth over the next few days.

Now that is a vid I need to watch. I have postural challenges at times.

yeah, i got postural challenges, too. hope you find some relief.

Hello Techno

I am quite new to posting here but I can relate to what your going through right now. I have stainless steel bolts and plates connecting L5 to S1. I blew out the disk and split the L5 vertebrae in two. L5 is fused to S1 with some of my hip bone and cadaver bone.

I’ve probably taken every narcotic for pain known in the last 20+ years. Doctors as you know don’t know a whole lot about dealing with back problems. I am a firm believer that unless you have had severe back problems, you don’t understand how I feel. From reading this thread I think swimming is your best friend. There are other exercises you can do in the pool that can strengthen your muscles/body.

I am no doctor but sounds like you may have a pinched nerve. I have right at 37 years in this steel game we all love. I don’t compete except with myself. I am a body sculpture/bodybuilder. I don’t train for anyone but myself. Besides training in the swimming pool my best suggestion (and this is the toughest) is take your time and let the body heal before you get back into your serious training.

There are a lot of exercises you can still do to stay in shape. Do floor exercises with your back supported by the floor. Reverse planks and chest raises (while in the reverse plank position) are great back strengthening exercises. On the reverse planks just pickup one leg at a time until you get some muscle tone back. You can use your arms to assist with the chest raises until you get stronger.

Time is your friend use it, don’t let anyone push you into something too soon. Patience is key here! Keep your core strong and you will be lifting a very long time.
Regards

ksnap, are you in a desk job by chance? I’m seriously thinking of getting away from a desk job in the next few years.

Lexy, I know, every time I get depressed about this, I actually think of all that you overcame.

olderthan50, thanks for the encouragement. Yes swimming seems to be helping, and I do feel great afterwards. Time & patience! As for the pinched nerve, they have not found anything to suggest that. I don’t know, I can only work with the suggestions I have and go from there.

i’m still working on it… still making progress… still figuring out my limitations… tis a journey that is for sure.

The last week has been a bit of a struggle. Think stress at work plus TOM caused a bit of regression, also having to work on my days off. Been in a bit of a bum mood too. Diving club had a glorious 2 dive day, and I couldn’t participate. I’m even worried if I’ll be able to get dived up for our May trip with the diving club.

Eh not sure about posting here in Over 35 Lifters, since I’m not ya know, actually lifting anything. But as I’m struggling to get back my positive attitude I came across the below mp3. Basically he guides you through some healing imagery, all the way to imagining yourself actually returning & doing your sport. I usually can’t stand this type of thing, but his Aussie voice isn’t too bad. Guess if I can’t actually lift, I can visualise it. Needed to work on that anyway, usually have to visualise the lift before I do it. Sigh… miss snatching.

Nothing really to report, except back in diving, yay! Can’t carry tanks around though. At swimming pool twice a week except for last week.

Also had to stop so much walking, just wasn’t doing me any favours. The afternoon’s are still the worst at my desk. I’ve also been working too much. Been working on the posture when walking and sitting at work, takes a lot of concentration but things are starting to feel easier.

There’s a somatic workshop and stuff next month that I’ll be attending. Also planning on going back to gym next month, but not going to load anything on my spine yet, but I’m going to lift something dammit. Still think I need someone to look at my ribs, especially the left side.

Okay…turn around is fair play…Y U No Post?!?

Again…with a caption!

how’s the back feeling these days hotsuff?
