Who Was More Unprofessional, Me or the CEO?

I understand your logic. I work at Social Services and am pressed to explain things to the people who come in here to apply for benefits. One because it’s a customer service issue not to, but also because I know that if someone understands how the process works, it not only makes it easier for them for all their future dealings with us, but it also makes it easier for whichever of my coworkers who ends up working with them. It’s a win win for every party involved if I take the time out to explain certain things upfront (edit: most of my coworkers don’t bother to do this, which really bothers me). So I can definitely understand where you’re coming from.

But in the comparison between him and yourself you have to realize that you’re at a job fair and expecting to get entitled little brats coming to you for a quick easy job. You’re more mentally prepared for it than someone going through a normal day and getting some random guy asking for a courtesy call.

That and you’ve always seemed to be a helpful individual in general from what I’ve seen and very level-headed. If only everyone used this same logic, how much better would the world be?

I don’t give that same credit to most people because from what I’ve seen of this world, people like you are uncommon. This leads me to believe it’s MORE likely what I said, but it is very possible that he did want to teach him a lesson in the manner that you would want to and your logic is sound as usual.

Haha, ball washer. Ass-kissing, but drawing a line based on principles. Semi ass-kissing, haha. Everyone’s got to get ahead and there are tried and true methods…

You’re talking about these guys, right?

You could’ve sent a simple cancellation email in far less time than it took you to make a forum account and type out a page of text describing the situation

Gee, you really think so? I’m so used to milenials blowing off job interviews that it’s not really a shock to me anymore. Without a doubt the most ignorant generation that I’ve ever dealt with and I’ve been in business many years.

Honestly what the hell is wrong with your age group? Do you just get distracted by all of the colorful shiny objects in the world, or is it just simply that you’ve been raised incorrectly?

Most of you make me sick.

That actually felt good because in real life I have to hold it in.

Anyway, good luck to you.

Where did OP state what their age was, or what generation they were from?
It’s pretty obvious where OP’s head is at. (Firmly up his ass.) And statistically speaking people of a certain generation tend to have their head firmly in the same place at a much higher rate than other generations.

OP seemingly taking offense to the email only adds the icing to the assumption cake.

So while, yes, it is totally possible OP is 40 years old, the smart money is on 24-27.
You’re pretty down on the young generation. They sometimes drive me nuts professionally, but I’ve got a bunch of 50-60 year old machine tool operators who can be a constant soap opera as well. Why does it have you so wound up? Some are good, some are entitled idiots. You weed out the idiots and you don’t need to have them working for you.

You screwd up, but you apologised and that’s all you can do, so don’t dwell on it there’s no point. Just learn for next time. But yes the CEO was right and I don’t think you “doged a bullet” cause most business professionals would be pissed off for wasting there time.

I mean, I’ve made a post at some point in the thread that says the same things. Shit in the post you quoted I acknowledge that yes, older generations produced shit heads too. I’m just not going to sit here and play pretend that the trends point in one direction here.

Not sure when people started taking direct honesty as someone being “wound up”, but it sure plays into the entire CupCake criticism.

It’s clear many here don’t have any sort of grasp of the professional working world. The CEO could of done nothing and never returned another call or email but instead he provided a very important lesson.

Why the OP would even come here looking for advice was juvenile.

Not already knowing he was completely in the wrong before he posted was juvenile.

LOL at “butthurt CEO”

First, why the need to mention that he is the “owner of the company”? Isn’t it just as rude to stand up a secretary?

My first thought. Isn’t it just basic manners to notify someone when not able to make a meeting? Even a CEO calling on the lowest employee should notify if not able to make it.

All this business about prison, fraud, bad company, etc. Whatever. Doesn’t excuse bad manners.
