Who Was Better: Eminem or Jay-Z?

I’m sorry but Ja was kinda cool. Ya know, for those drivin with the girl in a thunderstorm nights? After she got kicked out because her mom found a bloody razor on her dresser.

but again, rule was good with painting an actual picture with his words, they were kinda cheesy but hey

Mariah Carey just owned Eminem

this is fierce!

Nevermind, just don’t bother.

Do you like rap songs in general? If so, then you must not have heard any Nas songs.
I was actually given one of his CD’s years ago. Could just not get into his music.

LOL Ct., you really don’t like EM ei? haha. Nah, but like everything else, its personal preference. I ain’t from the streets so I really don’t relate to jigga or wayne much. Nas is a street dude but his music is great for everyone to vibe with.

I mean heck, the lines you wrote are wack. I can put some ILL lines but it would take up the whole forum LOL. He’s that good. And as for the freestyles, he reallly is THAT good. Ever see the one where the DJ gives him random words and he still rhyming?.

Again, you’re bringing up the context of his songs. And I’ll say this for the last time, for a lot of hip0hop heads, ITS NOT WHAT YOU SAY, BUT HOW YOU SAY IT. Remember the Biggie example? The guy basically talked about raping women, killing people and selling drugs, yet he still considered by many as the Undisputed GOAT because of his ability to rhyme and flow like a river.

And EM still kills Jigga in a freestyle. LOL

It was more than just flow and rhymes with Biggie. It was his ability to humanize the awful things he rapped about, which contrary to what people say, hasn’t been done as well by most of the “great” gangsta rappers.

jay -z has done more for hip hop than eminem. if em was black he’d be just another rapper.

eh, I wouldn’t say that younggully … he’d still be a good ass rapper, he wouldn’t get the exposure he does,
That’s what I meant.

Okay, this is a hip-hop question. I know not a lot of peepz in the forums would much rather listen to metal/rock, but I think this one’s a legit question.

It’s been hotly debated for years but I’d like to ask it here. Who out shined who on this song? Personally I think Eminem just straight up slaughtered this shit. A lot of people hate on EM (CT. ROCKULA) but I think this song shows why he’s well respected by his peers and why not a lot of people would even dare put them on their songs.

So, Eminem or Jay-z?

Eminem is the better rapper. In fact, he was phenomenal in his prime. Jay-Z is perhaps the greatest businessman in the rap industry. That’s why he has the longevity and respect he does. Both are worthy of respect in their respective fields.

Dammit, I started reading the thread after posting, but you meat me to it :(.

Also, just to explain… Jay-Z isn’t a PHENOMENAL rapper. He’s pretty good, but that’s about it. He’s nowhere near as polished or creative as Eminem was IN HIS PRIME. However, by taking advantage of the New York rap scene, Jaz-O, Notorious BIG, then the momentum from that until finding Kanye, Rihanna, Beyonce and them… He managed to stay relevant for a LONG ASS TIME and you have to respect that. However, it’s HILARIOUS to hear how his style evolved over time as he associated with different people. He went from his early sound, to emulating Biggie, to basically his own style (which still often used others’ lines), to borrowing from Kanye’s rhyming patterns, as far as I can tell on recent records.

Nowadays, no matter what Jay-Z puts out, everyone is ooh’ing and ahh’ing without examining the material itself. I’m a big fan, but Kanye actually killed him on “We Run This Town.” How could that even happen?

As for a freestyle battle, Eminem would SLAUGHTER Jay-Z. Eminem is a great battle rapper, Jay-Z was never particularly good at freestyling.

All in all, though, I’m a huge Jay-Z fan. 99 Problems is my ringtone, and has been for a while. It’s just that I recognise him for what he is; a highly talented and lucky businessman.

Lyrically, I think Eminem is above and beyond Jay-z. And as for Nas being the better/out of the 3, I don’t think there’s been a more consistent rapper than Nas since he came out, but he can’t hang with Em lyrically. I’d give it a tie between the two and Jay-z being a close third.
Are you joking??!
Nas is such a better rapper than Eminem. Eminem is the same guy that wrote
I am whatever you say I am
If I wasnt than why would I say I am

Are you serious? Half of his lyrics are rhyming the same word.
1)Nas

2)Jay Z

Eminem is not even on the map.

More like he modified that from a Rakim line…funny how of all the lines you could’ve chosen to insult his writing, you chose a line he didn’t exactly write.

Just try to prove that.

LOL @ this guy late to the party. And can you name any more of his songs that rhymes the same words?

And for arguments sake, here’s the LINE jay-z stole from Eminem.

1999 Slim Shady LP: (I’m Back)
“I used to give a - fuck, now I could give a fuck less
What do I think of suc-cess? It sucks, too much press I’m stressed”

2007 American Gangster: (Success)
“I use to give a fuck, now I give a fuck less
What do I think of success?.. it sucks
to much stress I guess I blew up quick”

There. If that ain’t some serious biting, I don’t know what is. And Jigga apparently bites people he admires ie. BIGGIE.

And the “I am whatever you say I am” is a hook not actual lines. And it’s a subtle ode to Rakim from his song “As the rhyme goes on”.

agree to disagree its cool lol

I’ll never be the one to listen to something that sounds good though. Like, I don’t like my girls stupid they have to have potent convo. I’ve been schooled by the old to many degrees.

lol, like I said about the Bigga example he reps the street and talked about the murders, rape, and other shit that was happening. Its what he saw in his neighborhood. He just had a way with words that boosted him over most others.

I’ve seen that freestyle many times and I’m standing by my word that nobody feestyles lol. That was so staged that’s like saying papoose’s a[phabetical slaughter was a freestyle. My man, its all rehearsed.

Little Dwayne is not street either lol. I’m saying this because he’s riding Birdman’ coat tail. Birdman was street and did all he could to get wayne out of the street. Why Dwayne keeps trying to perpetuate this image? I don’t know. I’m guessing because its easy, I mean its automatically assumed a black dude from NO is a gangster, right?

It is personal preference. I did like the Infinite album though.

Thank you. I’m glad someone else noticed this.

And yeah, Kanye did wreck him on that song, although Kanye has had a few killer guest verses this year (Clipse’s “Kinda Like A Big Deal” comes to mind).

Jay-Z for his sound, but both did a fucking lot for hip-hop. It wouldn’t be the music it is today if it weren’t for those two.

Em tore this shit up like virgin hymen, I’ve never understood the argument for Jay (that’s not a knock on him either).

Hell, the song is “Renegade” and Jay’s off talking about how hard his life was. Address your subject matter fool.

Yeah, I’m fast becoming a big fan of Kanye. At first, I really didn’t dig his raps so much because of their simplicity. But as time went on, I realised the challenge of writing so economically while still telling a powerful and moving story. Out of currently active MC’s, few can touch Kanye on that. That’s where his genius lies: in delivering quality material that just about anyone can relate to.
