Who’s Having Fun?

I do enjoy training. Is it fun? Mostly not. Do I hate it? Mostly not.

What primarily motivates me:

  • Goals.
  • The feeling you get to your body when physically active is awesome. I love the tiredness/soreness.
  • I get more hungry, and eating is fun.

But I do agree that lifting/training should give value to your life. If it’s the fun, it’s valuable.

I’m really enjoying lifting. I like to lift heavy (for me). I love feeling strong and confident. I actually also like the routine and the repetitive nature of the sets and reps. I feel good when I can add weight to any lift. And it feels good when I tell my sons what I deadlift or that I’m doing pullups and they seem genuinely impressed. It also greatly improves my mood. I ran up the stairs this morning with no stalling or heavy breathing, so that’s pretty awesome.

Oh yeah, and I love when I’m between sets and forget that I’m a 46 year old woman and I have a 23 year old girl dance club party in my squat rack. (It’s in my basement so no one else is exposed to that image)

I have a 12yo daughter and 46yo wife and there is 0 difference in the likelihood to dance at any moment
