Who Here Follows Formula 1?

its american fans tend to be few and far between so im unsure of how much response this is going to get. My uncle who is from England got me into it, he has been following it every since he was born, but most people i meet in the US that are into it have foreign roots.

I think this is going to be a great season, i think that Fernando Alonso has a great chance to get another WDC finally now that he has a team that can develope a car. Im actually a bit happy to see schumacher struggling, to me he wasnt as much of an amazing driver (very good, not amazing) as i thought everyone had made him out to be, he was just at ferrari during a GREAT era. I love seeing hamilton drive flat out all the time, he drives with such ferocity out there. I think Rosberg has tremendous talent but for whatever reason he slips under everyones radar.

The red Bulls seem to have amazing pace, but they are also running a trick suspension setup that the FIA stewards havent codemned as illegal yet, i hear they are using ultra-cool gas during qualifying that expands for the final race and essentially ‘controls’ the ride height.

Any tnation followers/thoughts the season?

I try to follow it, although not as closely as I wish to due to the fact that I can only catch a few races each year. Definitely my favorite motor sport though.

last year was a bit boring, passing was limited and the brawns were too dominant. this year is a bit more exciting so far. i DVR it, the races and qualifying are on at odd hours…

My intrest has been slipping the last couple years but yes I do follow it. I used to watch all the races with my son on Sunday mornings. He was able to name all the drivers when he was four lol. Our dream is to someday make the trip to Montreal for a race. Sad part is it’s probably cheaper to go to the race in Indianapolis…can’t remember if they cancelled that race.

The look of the cars has changed alot. The wings seem to get smaller and smaller. Those grooved tires were an abomination.

I like that red bull is getting good after paying their dues. Sorry Coulthard. Yes, Hamilton is bad ass, so young too.

They still are the coolest looking cars around imo. I’d give my left nut to get a ride in one of those two-seaters they have for promotions.

so 1 person from CT, and 1 from canada rarely follow it. I cant say im surprised that they cancelled the US race then…

also, they tried to have a US team, called USF1 to try to get the united states interested in F1 again but they ran out of funding, never mind even having time to advertise it.

Id say the problem is that the overseas races are on at 3:30 in the morning, if its not broadcast at a prime time in the US then we arent going to really follow it.

I follow it fairly closely. It would be nice if they hurried up and did a race in the states sometime soon!

Should be interesting with Schumacher back in it this year. Loved Button’s dominance in the beginning last year, although I’m bummed he moved to McLaren, but I would probably do the same with how much money he’s getting.

Also interested to see how the new Virgin team fares.

Ferrari is still the best, and that’s one of the things I dislike about F1, how much of an advantage money gives you. It is impossible (with the exception of Button last year) for new programs with relatively little money to compete with Ferrari and McLaren. I think something should be done to limit such financial disparity, and also to encourage more passing.

Nascar rules bud and always will. I stopped watching Nascar a few years ago. To much production in the telecasts for my tastes. The introductions got out of hand and pre-race lasts too long.

The costs are going down for F1. That’s why they limit how many engines they have for the year no? The reliability of the engines now is amazing compared to the past. Back in the seventies and eighties the engines were “programmed” to last the race and not much past that. If the race was for say twenty laps and for the fuck of it you kept going for another lap or two all out the engine would blow up lol.

Rumour was that Toyota (r.i.p.) had a budjet if one billion dollars per year. More than even Ferrari.

I’m addicted to MotoGP now.

America had world champions in this class twice(in the last ten years), Nicky Hayden and Kenny Roberts Jr. It probably never even got mentioned in the major newspaper chains :frowning:

westcoast, the teams have more strict budget caps now that everyone has to adhere to. the brawns were fast because honda had stopped developement before the 2009 season even began, so they were aerodynamically superior. they always had good aero, just the engines were dogs, with the fast mercedes engine they became dominant. the new teams are a mess in my opinion, they are backmarkers and cause more yellow flags for the real drivers than they should.

bond i hadnt heard that their budget was that big, i know they were throwing alot of money at it but they just didnt get the results that they needed. trulli was a good racer and had some good shows last year, but the brawns were so dominant that they really didnt stand a chance.

im hoping alonso will win it this year, but he has 4 engines to last the next 15 races, and he is going to run a used engine in this next race, so i am worried about it breaking on him.

Connecticut is obviously a hub for F1 fans. No wonder we also have a prestigious Ferrari drivers club in the state.

This year has been interesting so far. The Redbulls have brought a lot of excitement due to a combination of amazing pace, a lack of reliability and a Ferrari-esque interpretation of the “rules”.

I hope we get a race back in the states b/c Indycar is an abomination for the open-wheeled car race world and thats about all that the “average american” knows.
