Who Hates the Baseball Hall of Fame?

I used to agree with Pete Rose until I heard a statement by Orel Hershiser. He said that every baseball player in the Major Legues must sign an oath that if they ever gamble on baseball they will be banned for life. This goes back to the controversy over the 1918 World Series.

I would agree that Joe Jackson should not be punished since the rule didn’t exist when he allegedly took money to drop games. It should also be noted that plenty of evidence exists that virtually every World Series up until the rule was instated in the 1920s had players that dropped games intentionally to make extra money off the gate of a 7-9 game World Series.

Yeah? Well, FUCK Oral Headshiner, too!

Maybe Pete deserves a big freaking sign below his picture in a back room at the Hall of Fame that says:

Pete Rose
“This Son-of-a-Bitch, after he retired from active play, broke his oath not to bet on baseball. But, he earned his place in this building. He’s one real Asshole for sure, but man, could he play baseball.”

Does anybody else think in the next 5-10 years it’s gonna be about impossible to get in? Look at the guys coming up:

Barry Larkin
Roberto Alomar
Fred McGriff
Tim Raines
Greg Maddux
Tom Glavine
Randy Johnson
John Smoltz
Sammy Sosa
Barry Bonds
Mike Piazza

And I’m sure there are plenty of others I’m overlooking. Some of these guys might face the fact that they won’t get in for 20+ years. Have you also ever wondered why they put guys like Dave Stieb on the ballot?
there’s no way any of those pitchers have a right to the hall over the rocket.
Right, I forgot about Clemens. He’ll be an interesting case along with Bonds, Sosa, McGwire, and Palmeiro. Will any of the known or suspected steroid abusers get in?
Sosa is NOT a hall of famer. The guy has garbage numbers. 3 seasons that were 3 times better than his other years. Not even close. Jeez.

Pete Rose is a piece of shit. One of the best hitters of all time but one of the biggest POS in baseball history. And as long as ‘character’ is a criterion guys like him wont get in.

Furthermore, he isnt even elliggible. His name isnt on the ballot because he put himself on the banned list. He did that so the Feds who were going to expose his gambling would keep quiet. He wanted to save his reputation and then lied about it for 12 years. Then Bart Giamatti died and none of the new commissioners want to insult him by taking Rose off the banned list.

When you have half the guys in the HOF and half the guys who played at the same time as him say theyd boycott the HOF is Rose got in that says something.

Let him in when he is on his deathbed but he shouldnt get the glory that everyone else gets. No one is going to take his hits away. He’s fine where he is.

Bah, you Yankees guys.

Well, I don’t think Orel Hershiser stands any chance of ever getting into the Hall of Fame, but he did make a point.

upside is the Expos will now have proof 20 years from now that they existed. According to Mike & Mike when the expos moved they didnt take the records with them, so the all time hr leader, wins leader etc for the nationals are all based on the past couple years.

I think you meant to ask if I hate the “Baseball Hall of Opinions of Biased Sportswriters”. Right?

Yeah, I agree. Here’s how I like to think about it in regards to Sosa:

Sosa played 13 years with the Cubs where he had a 139 OPS+ (league average is 100), which is damn good but not legendary. Then he also had another 6 terrible years at the beginning and end of his career with the White Sox, Rangers and Orioles that a lot of people forget about. Albert Belle’s career was 12 years and he finished with a career OPS+ of 143. So basically, Sosa was Albert Belle with 6 really shitty years tacked on.

Sosa had a 5-year peak, where he was a monster. His OPS+ in those years:
1998: 160
1999: 151
2000: 161
2001: 203
2002: 160

But to compare, here’s Edgar Martinez:
1995: 185
1996: 166
1997: 165
1998: 158
1999: 152
2000: 157
2001: 160
2002: 139
2003: 141

People forget how good Edgar was!
