I’ve sprayed my apple and pear trees multiple times now as the gypsy moths have been terrible . . anybody else been having issues with them?

I haven’t had moths I have had the caterpillars! They devasted my garden greens.

you’re right, it’s not gypsy moths . . it’s the tent caterpillars

Oh no! Those things can strip a tree overnight it seems.
Have you tried Dipel dust?

I have not but will look into it . . I’ve been using a mixture I found in a holistic fruit tree book I have . . neem oil is one of the ingredients

Dipel is a biologic not an insecticide. It only works on caterpillars. It’s a bacteria that them sick without using an insecticide. Hope that helps.

I’ll look into it . . I appreciate it!

It’s getting hot so, time to dig the root crops. Very happy with what I got this year. Now, off to tie the onions up and hang to dry.

My oregano. Been working on it for a few years now. Its pretty happy and holds over really well in this spot.

Bucket is for scale. I may split it up a little later today.

Split up the oregano.

Eight tomato plants.

The whole shebang.

Plants seem to like that area. Great morning sun exposure, and full sun most of the day. Pumpkins loved it. We’ll see how the tomatoes do.

Did you grow the tomato plants from seed?

I did not. I bought the plants a few days prior. :slightly_frowning_face:

I can never keep seeds. Every year around january I start collecting them from the foods I like. Roma tomatoes, all kinds of peppers, butternut squash etc.

Then about March my wife gets mad that I have seeds everywhere and I throw them away.

The oregano is pretty much from seed though. The original was a few years ago , and I let it go to seed a few times.

And now I might have to make some ornamental metal garden like things for them to climb!

Gotcha.

Not trying to be a smart ass… Just offering up a couple of tips
.

  1. They look pretty leggy. I like to plant leggy ones DEEP. You can strip the bottom leaves off and plant it so just the top ones are sticking out. You can even lay them down if you can’t get a deep enough hole. It will root where the nodes are on the stalk and give you a better root system

  2. They are really close together. I hope you plan on caging them. If so, do it now before they go apeshit.

If fun to see what will come up from saved seeds. I had some awesome tomatoes like that and then also some ugly gourds … lol

Thanks! I figured they were pretty close. I’ll either cage them or put up a trellis like thing for them shortly. I did the same thing with plants as I do at the grocery store- go nuts and get a bunch of stuff cuz I’m hungry!

I always have these amazing plans for this stuff, then life happens. I really should have done this a month ago.
