damn. that’s impressive for 5’9". looks effortless.

I’m about 5’11 and my best was being able to dunk a mini-Bball in high school.

lol. I felt like a boss[/quote]

Thanks bud. Hate to be “that guy”, but I wish I had some footage of dunks before the knee injuries. Was putting down some pretty nice dunks, and have actually won 3 contests in Houston. Sadly, think those days are done.

Did you play? Even a mini-ball for someone under 6’ ain’t bad.

Guess those pics got eaten? I’ll try again later.

'Sup bud? Been living in the museum district for the last couple of years. You in town?

Haha, 'sup Chilly? Can’t attest to it ‘cause I refuse to watch him, but am hearing that Howard’s been lookin’ pretty good in a Rockets jersey. Any word on Bryant’s return?

Good thread.

WF, I play pick-up ball pretty consistently, and play on 2 intramural teams. I’m an awkward size, 6’2", so in league play kind of a too short for post, not skilled enough for guard position. If there’s someone I play like, it’s honestly a poor man’s Manu Ginobili. lol. But my handles really hold me back I feel.

I’m not terrible at handling the ball, just in middle/high school they always had me in the post, and I had one of those old school coaches who were like “big men don’t dribble”, sp years of practice is lacking. So do you have any tips, drills, etc, at becoming a better ball-handler?

Ohh, and inb4 ball-handling gay jokes

What’s good, Spidey? For starters, get low, keep the ball on your fingertips and POUND it into things floor. Start with your weak hand, keep the ballless than a foot off the ground and go 'til your shoulders are on fire. Then switch hands. Do that 'til you feel comfortable, then try this: Starting on the baseline facing the freethrow line, get low and walk up the key dribbling between your legs every step, then turn at the foul line (still dribbling), then turn at the key, then turn at three baseline. When you get back to the starting point, go backwards.

So, you’re essentially “tracing” the paint. If you lose ball, you have to start over. When you can complete one round without fucking up, try behind the back. When that’s smooth, go through the legs from reverse. When that’s smooth, work on crossovers (weak hand first). After crossovers from the front are smooth, work on reverse crossovers which is the same thing except instead of bringing the ball back in front of you, you put it behind your back.

Focusing on riding the line will keep your handle sharp and force you to not get sloppy. A tight handle and the ability to hit the one to two dribble pull-up are the two most effective one-on-one offensive weapons in your bag 'cause they can both open up the entire floor. Hope this helped bud.

Yeah I played in high school. Well, I was on the team… I only played during blowouts. I grew up in the Sacramento, CA area and played in the early/mid 1990s. I attended a city school and was a 2 guard. The guys ahead of me were all 6’2"-6’4" slasher types. I was a shooter that couldn’t play D… so I rode the bench.

Claim to fame: My school played against Jason Kidd’s team in HS at a Bay area tourney.

He was wicked.

I got a DNP that game :frowning:

Basketball and not 220lbs ripped? I don’t even know what to believe anymore…

Sweet brother, much appreciated. I feel confident at the 3 point line inward, but I want to able to bring the ball up the court confidently even with some pressure.

Definitely the tracing drills 3-4x a week. Thanks dude. Need to keep my game on point, ya never know, I might get matched up with one of those streetball players who happens to be better then MJ lololololol

LOL…I was thinking the same thing.

But…THAASSSSS RAYCESSSS

Oh and solid aestheticism WF.

Gets his own thread and doesn’t namedrop at all, what a gentleman.

You make that dunk(and the others you’ve posted over the years) look so much easier than it is for guys as short as us.

Heh I was waiting for this year’s hoop thread to point out the irony of D12 to HOU. Yesterday, I caught part of Rome’s radio show and he blasted D12 for complaining about ORL using his old number. And then today, he brought Tobias Harris on for an interview.

You also got me planning catch Bryant live this season, one of the Clippers games would be ideal.

I feel your pain now, and I always had decent enough handles. (played 2-3 swing spot in highschool, and a year of club hoops at a PAC-10 school, tons of intramurals of course. always had the most fun with co-ed teams & rules too)

But now these youngsters with their endless energy, it’s like they know they can rip me and get away with it, and more and more I find myself either spotting up or screening away lately.

It’s 'cause I only ate Mickey D’s once a day. There’s a reason it’s called “secret sauce”.

Thanks bud. Know you played football. I actually had an oppertunity to try out for the Austin Wranglers (arena league) in '07, but my body was already starting to break down and I passed on it.

Haha, no worries man. Also, get on the jump rope. It is the cheapest and best conditioning tool you’ll find, and the rhythm, reflexes and quick feet you’ll get are unmatched. Jump rope. DO IT.

'Sup, Red!? Thanks man. This is still a good community with solid, knowledgeable people. Too old to worry about the few negative jerkoffs who bring this place down.

How’s Bennett looking? Still not sold on him going #1, but after watching some footage it’s clear he can play. Kind of reminds me of a right handed Rodney Rogers.

A buddy was tellin’ me about that yesterday. Something about Howard being butthurt that the Magic didn’t retire his jersey? His douchiness knows no limits. I give it an 80/20 chance that he destroys the Houston locker room by mid season.
