The poor bastard published a book that really requires a sophisticated and mature audience. I don’t know if putting that caveat in the book would have made it more or less controversial, but the violence directed at scientists is definitely unwarranted.
The data shows what the data shows, that has to be understood full stop.
The argument as to the validity of IQ tests, a very archaic measure that leans heavily against the post of education level and socio-economic conditions, particularly in the STEM world, is a valid argument to make against this type of study.
But you cannot argue what the data shows. You can argue the methodology is not terribly valid because of the archaic-ness of the testing with regards to IQ, but results are what they are.
Even though the claim is made that the tests were tailored to accommodate the external factors individuals are subject to, there is a legitimate question as to how well this can be done in reality. And I personally don’t think IQ testing is very malleable.
Your choice of “sophisticated” and “mature” are both very apt.
