What’s a cuck? Real question. I really don’t know other than it’s clearly derogatory.
Hence why I detest news stories based on what some nobody tweeted. Even a somebody who tweeted. If the best journalism you can do is to unpack a tweet, you’re a shitty journalist.

@ Your comments on social media. Forums like this one are dying, but I see TN as social media, although many of us aren’t completely anonymous, or maybe the nature of frequent posters vs just anonymous comments at the end of a news article can make discussions deeper. Some of the comment sections at the end of an article will cause you to loose all faith in humanity.
Still, I’m a less happy person when I pay a lot of attention to politics or culture war stuff that is divisive. It tends to make me feel bad, feel pessimistic.
@ The new information revolution. We humans aren’t cut out to be purely rational about things we see. A lot of our decision making, reactions are more emotional, instant gut level, than we think.
When you think about all the people creating content all the time, vying for attention in your news feed. Clicks are money. So much of it is going to be geared toward the extreme (anger, outrage, division, violence, hypersexual, or just bizarre) because that’s what will get a reaction, get people to click. We’re geared to seek novelty, so things have to get more and more outrageous or weird.
I’m not sure how to limit our exposure to it, other than reading a physical newspaper and limiting time spent online.

I jokingly used it in a post in another thread and I’m pretty sure its one of my finest pieces of work to date.

pat, my reply to you isn’t very articulate. I was thinking about several things in relation to your posts. I kind of blended thinking about social media, which most people think of as FB or similar, with reading anonymous comments everywhere else. Hopefully you get the idea.
Mostly I think this new stream of constant, often low quality garbage on the internet is making the divisions/ extremes worse.
“The left sees everything as race” is another silly talking point.
Not having to worry or think about your skin color is one the white privileges.
It stems from porn. Typically some kind of scene where a black man is having sex with a white man’s wife in front of him.
Ironically, pornhub posts some random stats every year about the states. It gets kinda hilarious in certain areas considering people in the south sure do love interracial porn.
The term cuck is much older than porn. It also has nothing to do with race.
The fact that some seem to think the word has its roots in a specific type of interracial porn says a lot about the mindset and habits of those people.
I check my privilege to make sure that it will be preserved for my children. I’d hate for my children to have fewer advantages than I’ve had. The suggestion that I should handicap my kids to help others aught to be repugnant.

I understood what you meant. Forums like these are technically social media. But this is long form content. You’re in a community that has something in common and you can articulate your ideas in a very detailed form.
In that respect, I encourage forums versus short space blurbs.
I think this forum is great, outside of a few stragglers most people are at least decent to each other. And you get to express an expand on ideas fully.
To me it’s a kind of therapy. I get to talk about politics and religion all my heart desires. And I feel no other need to be heard on the matter. I get to engage with people, many who usually disagree, sometimes agree and I don’t feel the need to talk about stuff at work, at home, out with friends, none of it.
So small community, long form forums, I think everyone should participate in based on things they are interested in. A place they are comfortable to get their angry bits out in without seeking to hurt people or ‘zing’ people.

Yep, I take days off from the news cycle. I learned this early on. I felt worse when I watched a lot of news and better when I didn’t. I tended to take it to extremes in my youth, I didn’t know what the hell was going on for weeks, but I was enjoying myself thoroughly.
I am not being sarcastic here, it’s just an observation, but I am surprised to some extent, how suicide isn’t rampant in journalism. They deal in the worse shit all the time. Maybe they are just extremely cynical.

I think it says a lot about the Google results from googling ‘cuck.’ seeing as how it wasn’t a spelling words when I was a kid I’m not sure how else people discover the word these days.
Edit: although I’m a sucker for people that say cuckservative. But thats mainly because I love Dad jokes and puns

Yeah, Shakespeare used the word cuckold so the word itself is old but who was using it before the alt-right began the whole cuckservative thing? These are young people who speak a language based on internet porn and video game jargon.

I don’t hang out in places where cuckservative gets used, but I didn’t know about the racial context. Now, I think it’s more about being RINO, or saying someone is a cowardly conservative (although I’m not sure what that means, probably depends on the context), or maybe for those same people who like to use the term beta, as in saying someone is weak?
Maybe for saying that conservatives who are anti-Trumpers or never-Trumpers are RINO, beta, or cuckservative?
