Whey Allergy!? Ah, Crap!

You doing some unnatural play in that area? NTTIAWWT. (just kidding)

I kinda think I would have remembered that. Unless I was abducted by aliens. If that were the case I think I’d be picking up radio stations or something back there.

I’ve been having Biotest protein for over 3 years now, and never had this problem until about two years ago, when I started having V-diet shakes. It’s also around the time they switched to micellar casein…maybe I’m having a problem with that. Maybe it’s flax. Maybe it’s neither. I’m not placing the blame on anything…I’m just trouble shooting and trying to find the problem.

Well since I have no positive test results in hand, I’m not sure. Even without doing the v-diet, I’ve had a couple protein shakes a day for a couple years now, so the timing of something in the powders not agreeing with me is possible. This thread caught my eye as the symptoms described are exactly the ones I’ve been dealing with. It seems like it would be simple to figure this out…if I cut out the shakes for a week and things are better, than that’s probably the issue. If I have no change, then it is most likely something else.

Definitely. Have you added any Whey back into your diet since the symptoms have cleared up? Have they persisted if you did?

I’m currently formulating my plan on this. I’ll start next week and I’ll probably go at it something like this: I’ll start heavy on protein powders, playing around with flavors/brands but also including plenty of fiber and probably greens + (Canadian version, as it actually tastes good). If I have problems, I’ll drop some out and keep doing that until I cut out powders completely and switch to whole foods. If I still have problems, I’ll start eliminating types of whole foods (such as dairy).

As you can see, this is a lot of guesswork. Good news for me is I just found a new gastro who seems really good. As soon as he can get his hands on my previous records he’ll start going down avenues with me so I don’t have to think of all of this myself. As previously mentioned, it may not be a food issue at all causing this…I’m just going to try these things while I wait for him to start working his angle and then hopefully one of us will figure it out.

you might want to try an egg protien powder. Vitol egg protien is great I mix it with OJ and some frozen strawberries. I was turned onto it by a guy who owns a gym near where I work and he has the same thing gets real bloated when he has whey protien. do a google search for vitol egg protien. hope this helps you
Good luck.

T-they eat those cute kangaroos? Monsters!

That aside, how does it taste?

Man its funny when you posted this a couple of years ago I was giving you advice and now I am the one with whey allergies.

They showed up as bloating/stomach aches really bad with Nature’s Best isopure and now they’re showing up with MD. I think I’m gonna go off the powders for like 8 weeks and see if that helps.

If you’re still around can you tell me how its been for you?

i eat a TON of dairy (whey protein, cottage cheese, kefir, yogurt, cheddar, etc.) and get at least 100 grams of protein a day from it.

i have been suffering from dermatitis (basically red skin) on my face, and food allergies are thought to play a role in this.

has anyone else suffered skin related allergies from dairy?

dermatologists give me the “we don’t know what causes it, just put this steroid on your face” routine and are essentially USELESS. time to take matters into my own hands, i don’t like the idea of suppressing the symptoms for the rest of my life without even trying to figure out what’s causing them.
