Where the Snowboarders At?

I know there was a thread about skiing just recently. I know I’m not the only snowboarder out there! It’s getting close to the season, so I figure now’s as good of a time as ever for a thread.

So, how long have you been riding? What is your favorite brand of boards? Do you preffer a more freeriding or freestyle approach?

As for me, this will be my eighth year riding, though it’s been sparse throughout the seasons since my fourth year. I personally am a big fan of Ride Snowboards, but I use to ride on a Burton board for a few years, which I loved.

For my riding style, I generally just like to ride around mountains. I like the feeling of speed, carving in and out of fresh powder, and staying on the ground! Since I use to be so big, it would hurt a hell of a lot every time I fell coming off of a booter or rail, so I tend to shy away from the freestyling these days.

Anyway - Who else is out there?

I got into snowboarding a few years ago. I had actually never skied or snowboarded before then. I really love it, but I don’t get to do it nearly as much as I’d like. Not many of my friends are into it, so it’s tough to round up a group of people that want to go. Money is tight, too. :frowning:

I’m no snowboarder, but I am a longboard skateboarder!

One of the only “sports” I participate in. Been riding for about 18 years.

Here!

I started riding at 17 (19 years ago this year) before they would allow snowboards on the slopes locally.

I’ve developed a slope style that includes jumping just about anything that you can take off from, ripping through treed in areas, carving down the enormous plates of ice that we have here in the east, and occasionally moguls.

I ride an old K-2 166cm Farmer limited edition Gratefull Dead board. I used to have a few other Burtons, but over the years have sold them or given them away. It’s a nice versatile ride that does almost anything realy well, except the technical spin tricks cause it is a bit heavy.

It realy is amazing to have seen this sport develope from being the scourge of the slopes to an Olympic event. The innovations that have developed in terrain, equipment, and riding styles is incredible.

I’m looking forward to another good year on the slopes. I just wish some of these young park hanging knuckle draggers would learn how to carve. It’s getting lonely again out on the slopes.

I’ve snowboarded a few times at Whistler but the costs aren’t worth it to me.

Instead I longboard on pavement. Same feel and speed.

I just started last year and I must have went 25 - 30 times (using my brother’s pass). I instantly decided I love it. I plan on being at the mountain here all Winter.

I go to Mt. Hood here in Oregon, but will visit Bachelor a couple times as well. Also, sometime in the middle of December my buddy got a place for us to stay in Lake Tahoe, so I’m pretty stoked for that as well.

I have been trying a lot more freestyle stuff, but I do like hitting the powder as well. I basically just like to be out there on the mountain and fuck around.

I ride a Flow Team board and I like it, but I haven’t had enough experience to compare it to anything else.

Been snowboarding for about 4 years. The last two I was on the slopes about 3-4 times a week as I live about 30mins from the closest mountain.

Even though I am so close it sucks. I live in Virginia, east of the Rocky Mountains so to get to a “good” slope you have to drive about 6 hours to West VA. I try to do that about 2-3 times a year and stay a weekend.

I love riding down slopes more than I do tricking but since the slopes here are very sub-par I usually make a few runs then spend the rest of my day in the terrain park.

Do you go to Snowshoe?

Me and a few buds used to get a condo down there for a week every February.

The wind, cold and icy pellets at the top of the mountain was enough to grit blast your skin off, but it was always an awesome time.

I’d been skiing about 10 years before I tried snowboarding, which I did for 4 years. Haven’t done it in another 10 years though, since I outgrew my board and didn’t ride enough to warrant purchasing another.

If I moved back north I’d have to start again though. For now I just ski when going home.

Everyone always used to say, “If you can skateboard, you can snowboard…” but I tried skateboarding several times and royally sucked. Snowboarding, though, came pretty naturally, I think because I am a visual learner and I’d just been watching others do it for so long.

Whatever, I do miss it.

With most season passes, you don’t have to go more than a few times to make it worth while. (I don’t know where you are in CA though, or if you’d have to pay for lodging too.)

I always enjoyed skiing/riding alone… alone with the snow and the trees (ignore the strangers)… you shouldn’t let that stop you.

Have you ever skied, or just snowboarded? (Just curious.)

I grew up in northern Japan, where there’s snow at least 5 months out of the year, so I picked up skiing in 2nd grade and snowboarding in 5th. Absolutely love it, but haven’t been again since moving back to the US…not much of a terrain for it in Oklahoma :frowning:

One thing I’ll never forget is riding up the ski lift and hearing a Japanese version of Ricky Martin’s ‘Livin la vida loca’…crazy Japanese people lol.

I’m about 3 hours away from the closest snow, so we usually just do a day trip, but again, it’s sometimes difficult to get everyone to commit to that. Most of the lodges are pretty pricey for an overnight stay, which is why we mainly do the day trip thing.

I haven’t really been snowboarding long enough to feel comfortable with going by myself. Especially considering the drive and if I were to get hurt.

I’ve never skied, just snowboarded.

Been snowboarding since i was six! broke my right wrist three times riding…lol never got hurt playing any other sport. I like to ride heavenly, but will ride whenever and where ever i get a chance, especially when its a free ride to tha snow!
