Southern Connecticut. I really like this state, although I’d probably like to be a little further North (closer to Hartford than NYC). I can’t get Red Sox games on cable here. ![]()
Thanks for all the input everyone, Ill definitely check out a few of these places, colorado seems pretty popular, had a friend who lived in boulder and loved it. My schooling is for graphic design and print communications and I know there are alot of employment opportunities in that area.
As far as weather is concerned it doesnt really matter, being where im from i experience all types. I have thought about going overseas, that would be a big change and requires some serious thought, but im into the idea.
And lastly just so everyone knows my football status will never change, Im already the “bad guy” around here cuz wouldnt you know it, Im a bears fan, all the way baby. But I do have an uncle who loves the steelers for all the penn peeps on here.
Thanks again everyone I appreciate all your input, my 27th b-day is on wednesday, your all invited over for beers and sled pulls.
Since Colorado is overcrowded, you could try Utah. We have everything Colorado has and more. We have Moab and Lake Powell.
In a van down by the river…
No, seriously. I live in a town adjacent to Laguna Beach, CA. Southern California is the best place in the country to live! I will never leave.
prescott arizona. no, this is not by phoenix!!! 5500 elevation in the mountain’s, all 4 season’s, but when it snow’s it is gone in a day or 2. climate is perfect (not like phoenix at 110-115 in summer). we are north of phoenix about an hour and a half up in the mountain’s
Bergen County New Jersey
It’s right outside NYC, and the vast majority of the towns have reletively low crime rates, good schools, and parks.
If your willing to give an arm, leg, and eye for the taxes
this is the place to be
Wow, the farthest ive been is ohio to the east and north dakota to the west, everyone talking about california, utah, colorado and the many other places mentioned just sends my head a swirlin’ with idears and such.
I live in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Great weather all year round. I guess it would depend on your hobbies but if you like to be outdoors 90% of the yr and want decent cost of living and you don’t mind high crime rate then you might want to check it out. Personally I am looking to leave in 2 yrs. I have also lived in Pheonix, AZ and would recommend there only if you hate winter and love outdoors as well as HOT women. San Jose, CA I would stay away from, high cost of living and over crowded. Worcester, MA is another place I would not recommend for the harsh winters and terrible cost of living. Not to mention crazy ass redsox fans. That covers the last 6yrs post college. I would highly recommend the mid-west like Iowa low cost of living and overall low stress and good people. Yes I am from Iowa.
I hope this helps.
Lots of people seem to really love southern California - but what about high cost of living and tons of traffic? Ive never actually been to SoCal, but that’s what most people I know say about it. Id love the warm weather, but if I could never afford to buy a nice place, and it took forever to drive anywhere, that would certainly take some of the thrill out of it for me.
Anyway, I guess I’m hoping someone can tell me I’m wrong ![]()
Not to steal the thread from Slappy, but this is something I’m curious about:
Southern California and Miami (for example) Florida seem to have a lot in common, like sandy beaches and hot women walking on those beaches. So what are the pros and cons of living in each area? Is there a clear winner or would some people prefer one over the other? And what kind of people would they be?

I, too, live in AZ–but up in Kingman. Great thing about AZ is that just about everything can be found here, from high mountain areas, to low, hot desert. Rivers, lakes, just no ocean (sorry surfers). Surprising how many SoCal people are finding their way out here, though–although I can’t blame them. No real knock on those of you from SoCal, but I find it a great place to visit, but I wouldn’t want to move there–and I could, very easily in fact. I work for SoCalEdison, and I could move out there tomorrow, but I just don’t want 20 million people that close to me!
Colorado has always sounded good to me, and sounds better all the time ![]()

SoCal and Fla–better surf in SoCal, but nicer swim in Fla. Good weather for both, although better in SoCal (no humidity). Depends on whether you would choose eathquakes or hurricanes for your natural disaster. At least in Socal you don’t know if/when it will ever really happen. In Fla, it seems like you can bank on a good scare every hurricane season.
That all said, I’d probably choose Florida, even though California is closer to ‘home’ for me.
For Gods sake move to SoCal! I lived in San Clemente, CA (well ok, Camp Pendleton, but close enough) for the past year and a half and loved it. The beach, the laid back life style, the weather, and there’s a million things to do…I mean they made a show about the place, that’s how good it is. Now I live back in suburban MD and hate life. It’s humid, there’s no beach, the people are by and large fat and ugly…Do yourself a favor…Move to SoCal and take me with you! Pllleeassseee!!!

I’d live in a card board box on the beach…That’s how good it is…
I live in Burke, VA. It’s a suburb of DC in Northern VA (NoVA) and part of Fairfax County, which consistently ranks as one of the top 3 wealthiest counties in the country. It’s nice here - clean, safe neighborhoods, nice community amenities, close proximity to DC without the hustle and bustle. Some of the major drawbacks are extremely high cost of living and one of the top 5 worst traffic in the country.
If you decide to venture out to NoVA, try living out near Dulles Airport in Loudon County. Places like Ashburn (where the Redskins training camp is located), Reston, Sterling or Herndon. It’s cheaper out there, only a little farther from DC and the area is growing FAST. Great place to invest in a home.

You might have to. Many seem to choose to live in not much better just to be there, so there must be something to that, eh?
Woodlnad CA near Sacramento.
I lived in:
Poughkeepsie NY
Albany NY
Los Angles [Hermosa, Redondo, El Segundo, Santa Monica]
Columbus Ohio
Louisville KY
Davis CA
Woodland CA [current]
Lots of Godamn moving! But i’m happy wear I am now. I can’t wait to open up this new gym and give Yolo county and the Sacramento area a great gym!
Of course, on the end of places to stay away from, there’s the place I work–Laughlin, NV. It reached 118 degrees here today. I don’t know what the “official” high was, but we have very sophisticated monitoring equipment for calculating equipment efficiency that reached 118 by about 5:45. Right now it is just past 9pm, and it is still 105. Just brutal.
If you’re thinking about overseas, the Phillipines has a conversion of 50:1 of their dollars to ours.
Take a few thousand bucks with you and live like a King! Almost the same with Thailand.
My wife lived in the Phillipines and we both vacationed in Thailand. If I could afford a flight there, I’d go again in a heart beat.
Not sure about the availability of jobs out there though ![]()
Have to add one from the other side of the country, Louisville, KY. We definitely got the 4 seasons thing and we get the extreme of each, but fall and spring are beautiful. Winter as cold as fuck (10’s & 20’s sometimes lower with lots of snow) and summer is hot as fuck (90’s and humid lots of time).
Aside: Apparently “fuck” can be hot or cold depending on context
Talk about cheap cost of living, and even though it’s a pretty big city, you can get anywhere in 20 minutes. A nice house on a decent-sized property can go for as low as $100k. Traffic is never bad (with a few exceptions), most of the crime is in the West End of town, there’s hardly any elsewhere in the city and there’s a few hundred gyms to choose from. There’s plenty to do in terms of nightlife, bars, clubs if that’s what your into. There’s also the Derby every year which is a blast.
The only place I’d consider moving other than here is Las Vegas, but I don’t see that happening anytime soon.
Good luck
