I’m reviving this thread to show you the grip strengtheners my chiropractor recommends. It comes with six different “weights” going from 50 to 300 pounds. (I’ll be starting with the lightest.)

I would struggle to pick a favourite. There are ones I use for a while, then don’t (not due to dislike but because you only have limited time and energy).

And some of the stuff I like is stuff I made myself.

But I think highly of:

  1. Fat Gripz
  2. Slingshot
  3. Pair of thin bands
  4. Dip belts
  5. Simple ab wheel

I have recently ordered (no opinion yet):

  1. Kettlebell handle (metal)
  2. Wrist straps (didn’t use, thought better grip more important)

I don’t much like:

  1. Sliders
  2. Foam rollers

There are also strengtheners you can get really cheap as one object with a dial to change the grip resistance on. Just search “Grip trainer” on Amazon.

When I messed up a ligament in my wrist, this was priceless to me in early rehab. The one I used went up to just 60kg but there are slightly more expensive ones I see that go quite a bit higher than that.

I’m glad this thread got bumped - gadgets are fun!

My “travel” gym bag includes:

  • The mountain dog band pack from Elite
  • The versa lift heel lifts I’ve mentioned before
  • My wrist straps just in case I find a gym with real weights

When I’m home, I add to that:

  • A pioneer 10mm lever belt
  • My elbow and knee sleeves (too stinky for the road!)
  • Occlusion wraps, which I really want to give a more honest run
  • Grip4rce, although I pretty much never use them

I also try a new gym backpack every other week, because obviously that’s what’s holding me back from being disgustingly jacked.

Every other sport has something to blame. Soccer players blame their football boots sometimes, tennis players blame their racket, golfers will blame the equipment and the weather for things not being perfect… you go ahead and blame the rucksack - it seems perfectly feasible.

PS: You already are jacked you machiiine. Have you got any backpack advice for my program?

Well, I’m flattered regardless of how much truth may or may not be in that statement.

I am using the Targus work and play right now. I don’t think they sell it anymore.

I want to try the King Kong core, but I can’t justify the price.

The perfect backpack would have:

  • A bottom shoe compartment that slides over the top of the main compartment (so your shoes aren’t crushed
  • A wet pocket
  • A large internal compartment (should be top open to not interfere with a belt)
  • A small, lined valuables pocket
  • A mesh compartment for knee sleeves
  • Belt loop
  • An insulated pocket for a meal or two
  • An external (side zip) laptop sleeve
  • Ideally an organizer pocket, but not a breaker
  • Two bottle sleeves

Anyone good at this and want to make a prototype?? I also have customer specs for a suiter!

I’ve seen them sell hand grips for well under ten bucks at Marshall’s, but they only go to 100 lbs. or so.

There was a study that showed a correlation between grip strength and longevity. Having good grip might help prevent falls in the elderly. But probably the real correlation is overall muscle strength, not grip specifically. Muscle keeps you mobile.

I’m with you on the KNKG core pricing, though it’s actually one of the few great bags for belt attachment. That said, I ordered mine from Switzerland (as the US vendor refused to deliver to Sweden) which cost a fortune in delivery and customs. I wouldn’t be surprised if I’m the only living Swede to own a KNKG bag!

It is indeed a great bag, with one drawback - My Wahlander’s belt makes it impractical to use the two bottle sleeves (as you need to put the bottles in place before sliding the belt in the loop). I also have concerns re the zippers over time, but time will tell.

It’s too bad the Tnation kevlar backpack wasn’t able to ship either (to Sweden). Now that’s a gadget to be reckoned with!

I understood the landmine was pragmatic but never enjoyed using it. Especially with heavy weights.

However, a few simple handle attachments have changed my mind. These are great for Meadows rows and wide overhead presses. And these are easy to incorporate into my current program.

Got some questions about individual handles for farmers walks. When lifting heavy I have usually used a trap bar. The handles require more balance and are fairly different.

What percentage of trap bar walk weight could you do with the individual handles? Just starting out I’m at around 75%. I idly wondered if this was typical, or would improve.

The individual handles require a lot more balance in the trunk and they sway a bit… I did 405 with a trap bar raw for 75 feet. Never tried that with the handles.
