What's Generally Considered Big?

To All,

I have read a few posts that have characterized Brock Lesnar as “not making it” in fighting, or not being a “good” fighter. I don’t think that is at all fair. I didn’t root for the guy either, but he beat Randy Couture, Frank Mir, and Shane Carwin. He held and defended the UFC championship. He made a bunch of money. I don’t think he was ever the best in the world, but he certainly rose to the level of “good”.

If Lesnar wasn’t “good” than neither is anyone outside of the top 3 in the world. For the record that might mean Overeem hasn’t “made it” in MMA and isn’t good either(beaten exactly 2 top ten guys at HW, and one of them was a post surgery Brock).

Actually you’re right, I exaggerated in an attempt to get my point across. Brock was a good fighter, he just wasn’t the greatest - I was originally debating with cubuff2028 when he said:

There’s a big man, and then there’s a big athlete. I’m scared of JJ Watt from my living room. Speaking of, let’s say Watt decided to give up football in favor of training mma full time. How long would he need to train to beat Dos Santos? 6 months? 2 years? longer? [/quote]

and my point was that there is a lot more to MMA than being a huge athletic guy and I used Brock as an example where perhaps he wasn’t the best example to choose.

Overeem was actually an mma champion before he was a kickboxing champion. He basically started out in both mma and kickboxing but after a couple of kickboxing matches, in which he was KOed, he focused on mmma. He even refers to kickboxing as a hobby. Tyrone Spong is supposed to be switching to mma so maybe he could be the first.

Cool, thanks for the clarification.

Also, those combine numbers I posted were from the NFL combine, not the NCAA combine. Sorry about that, brain was fried.

And he tried out for the NFL on the wrong side of 25, not straight out of college, making those numbers even more impressive.

Hi folks!

I noticed your thread about how big is “Big” I’m 6"2’ and i weigh 257 lbs… I guess I’m big… I’ve studied martial arts… I’m a board breaking champion… almost went to state championships for wrestling but i broke a rib breaking a horse… and of course grew up on a horse ranch… I am currently a Chef… and everybody always calls me “Big Guy”… i never really thought about my size… until recently when everyone started calling me “Big Guy” yes i guess from other posts i could throw someone through a wall or some crazy stuff like that but i have to admit I don’t want to cause trouble and i am a laid back guy most of the time… i will say if you get me angry or threaten those close to me i will respond in kind… but i have never thought of myself as “Big” until recently… when everyone started to call me “big Guy” seriously i have been a string bean until now… this series of posts have taught me i don’t need to be a “Big Guy” i think should loose about 40 lbs… I think I’m going to do something about this… help me out or tell me I have no chance… whatever…
