Or you can go fuck yourself…either way

Dude, how can the group of people who coined the term “snowflake” be the biggest bunch of snowflakes ever? As a disclaimer, I absolutely cannot stand Hillary and would have made a joke no matter who our president was after that disgraceful election. It’s a JOKE, and was a good natured one. Gosh, you’re a sweet little thing.

I didn’t realize this about you. Me too! Except it took me time to take college seriously - when my mother died and the pressure to finish eased I stopped dropping in and out and just stayed out. Then of course went back and moved easily through my bachelor’s and master’s. Now I get excited to think that when I retire I’ll be able to audit classes.

My school only offers AP Calculus AB and I bombed the AP test. I asked the teacher if I can retake the course. I think retaking the course can allow me to master the material. I’d rather master AP Calc than move onto Kolmogorov-Arnold-Moser Theorem next year and obtain little.

What I mean is that I don’t want to waste time/money in a major.

Update 12/12/18

I turned 18 last month. I’ve been studying hard. I’m currently in a KAM Theory Class, and I’ve retaken AP Calculus AB in order to ensure that I have a firm foundation for when I become an engineer. I have an A in the class. I want to be an aerospace engineer. I’m currently enrolled in AP Physics 2 and it’s really kicking my ass. AP Psychology is going well.

I’ve been accepted into Lewis University with a $17.5k yearly scholarship, and Illinois Institute of Technology with a $27.5k yearly scholarship. Those two schools have a dual enrollment program for me to get a B.S. in Applied Science and Aerospace Engineering in 5 years? It sounds interesting. What do you all think?

I’ve also been studying Chinese and I have been a Teacher Assistant for a Chinese 2 class since the beginning of this school year. It’s been a great experience and I’m recognized as one of my school’s best World Language Teacher Assistants and I’ve been requested to speak at an informational next Tuesday. You all remember I took AP Chinese last year. I passed the AP test. I want to take the HSK-4 or 5 some time.

I’m also still with my girlfriend. Distance has made us grow fonder. We talk everyday and are closer than before she left. We’re loyal to each other and are almost always on the phone.

I got cut from the basketball team again, as a senior. The coach actually admitted that I was better than some players on the team, but I guess he just hated me. That’s the only way he could cut me. I worked hard for years for that spot. He knew that. And that I deserved it, and that I was better than players already on the team. I guess shit happens. I still practice everyday because I love the game, and I want to be great , even if it will never really make a difference. It matters to me. I still wake up at 4AM to practice.

Recently I was informed about a Chinese Speaking Contest that will happen soon. I was thinking about simply writing my personal statement in Chinese, because the contest’s essay and my personal statement share the same topic. I have a good chance of winning; a student the year before last tried out and earned a silver medal. I’m quite a bit more proficient than he was 2 years AFTER that. The reward for winning is a scholarship to study in Taiwan for two months during the summer.

I’m conflicted though. Me and my girlfriend rarely have time together and it causes intense heartache because I miss her. I want to put her through more pain than what’s necessary.

I’m still much more skilled than many of the students in my school who have been to China, through sheer work ethic and determination.

Don’t guess: seek out feedback. Ask what you can do better for your next coach to be a better player for a team.

Congrats on your academic successes and college acceptances and scholarships! Stay focused on school, since you’re ONE SEMESTER AWAY from finishing!! It’s a good achievement, and I’ll bet you’ll really feel like you accomplished a life milestone when you walk off the graduation dais. As for Taiwan, you first need to win before even worrying about whether to go.

What’s KAM? Good to hear the calculus is going well, and I’d put the remaining effort into physics. If you’re looking at aerospace I’d guess that the majority of classes will have some basis in either your calc or physics you’re taking, they’ll just get more specific/harder. I’d really think about the applied science thing, unless you’re damn sure it’s marketable you may be better off hitting aerospace hard and doing it in 4 years (which can be cushioned by your AP credits). At a job fair if people don’t really know what the applied science thing is you’d be a more attractive candidate with a great aerospace GPA instead of an extra degree they don’t care about. I’d also take a look at mechanical engineering, you can do some pretty similar things but the versatility is much broader. Sorry that’s about the only part of your post I think I’m of any use on.

KAM Theory is about dynamical systems in mathematics, but like our class really isn’t even about KAM Theory yet. It’s more about math logic and discrete mathematics. We deal with things like sets and lists, and it’s more about the foundation of math. It would apply to computer science more than anything.

Your advice was the main thing I needed help with, so no worries. I’m going to call the university at some point to learn more about that program. And you’re right—I really don’t know what a degree in Physics would do more for me. I’m not sure yet.

He might be wanting to develop the younger guys on the team who have 2+ years to play for him left.

At least you have a reason (allegedly). Mine told me he hopes his son grows up to be like me and then cut me…

He was actually the best coach I ever had and taught me a lot about life.

Sometimes it’s better not to know. Like when your teacher’s report says “Little Timmy is a good student who would get better results if he applied himself more”.

You think “Yeah! I am good when I don’t even try that hard” and then you find out all the dumbasses who weren’t outright destructive to themselves and others got that feedback.

This is the most reasonable explanation I think. But there was more history between us that I don’t really want to get into.

There’s definitely more I need to improve on, I’ll explain the details of me and my coach’s history later.

It doesn’t matter, man. You didn’t make the cut. Move on.
