I’m going to New York for the first time between Aug 21-25th and just wanted to see what NY fans recommended I check out. I’ll of course see the typical tourist stuff but if there’s anything going on that week in the way of concerts, shows, expos, or whatever your favorite thing to do when you go to NY: restraunts, theatres, etc I’d be glad to know. Thankya
Well, as a former NBC employee, I recommend that you visit the TODAY SHOW. On Firday’s they do concerts (but get there early), take the tour and you can see where I use to work in SkyPath (Third Floor, behind bullet proof glass). On Sunday, there should be a street fair some where in town, go and enjoy.
Best of Luck.
If you like Thai food, definitely check out Spice in the Village. It’s on university pl. and 10th ave. It is the best damn place for thai food. Nice atmostphere. Check out a ball game. Yankees or Mets, just go. Always fun. I think Lincoln Center (68th and Broadway) is still running their Summer music festival. A good idea, check out www.citysearch.com. They have a listing of a ton of good stuff. Have fun on your trip.
fraglie you a seinfeld fan? Id check out the kramer tour he takes you by all the places in the show and he’s probably weirder in real life than on the show after teh tour allthe passengers went to his apartment and ate pizza yeah check it out its only like 25 bucks too
It depends what you’re looking for, who you’re travelling with, etc., but if you’re looking for unique shopping (clothes, artwork, housewares, etc.), stuff you CAN’T find in any mall in Podunk, USA, go strolling around Soho. It’s a cool area to walk around in regardless. Greenwich Village (west village mainly) is also a cool, artsy area with “funky” shopping, bars, clubs, etc. Take in a Broadway show if you have time, but ideally not your typical tourist trap stuff (i.e. not Lion King, Phantom of the Opera, etc.). I would recommend Cabaret, Urinetown and the Producers. Another cool area to stroll in is Fifth Ave. in the mid-Fifties, walking uptown (North), toward Central Park. You’ll pass some of the most ludicrously expensive, look- but-don’t-even-think- you-can-afford-it shopping on the planet, and then you’ll arrive at Central Park South by the Plaza Hotel, which is a beautiful area. For clubbing (not sure if you’re into that), check out Exit and System. It’s up to you, but I wouldn’t bother wasting half your day schlepping to Ground Zero if I were you. There’s REALLY nothing left to see there now that the wreckage is cleared away, and you’ll wonder why you went all the way out of your way to get to the southern tip of Manhattan just for this. Just my two cents. Have fun.
Pack a suit and hit the “21 Club” one night. Awesome food, and you may be sitting by a few stars (or maybe wiseguys). If your a fan of any sitcoms, etc., try to get some Tix. I saw Letterman there in 99 and would love to see SNL. Which reminds me, hang out by Letterman’s building about 4pm mon-thur watch all the guests arrive. That’s a lot of fun. Take a night walk around Times square. I love NYC!!!
