What Supplements Do People Like These Days?

Let me clarify… Stim + Stim =/= 2Stim

I’ll just list the ones that I notice the biggest difference from:

Flameout (I’ve been using this for years, great product)
Biotest Curcumin (Believe it or not, I notice a difference between two of these and taking regular curcumin, it could all be in my head but I don’t care).
ZMA
Vitamin D (levels were low and 5,000 IU per day got me in normal range).
Collagen

I think it reduces DHT by about half of what Finasteride does, or that’s what I have read a few times. But, I think there are like 3 types of DHT, and it only really reduces the one that doesn’t do much to hair, while Finasteride reduces the 2 types that impact the hair follicle. So I am not convinced that this one is worth using.

Another one is that red yeast stuff. Supposed to be pretty good on lipids. Not sure if it is fairly side effect free or not though?

I’m the wrong person to ask but will read where the conversation goes.

I’d be a Level 10 for sure under the old forum format. I use all the Biotest wellness & immunity products, plus Finibars and Alpha Male. I’m 59, just want to be “fit” and (relatively) mobile into my 60s.

The placebo effect is real; personally, I respect it.

The mind is a terrible thing to waste. lol

magnesium citrate is a laxative… and potentially a very strong one depending on dose. I’ve got friends who use this for weight/water cuts on occasion. I’d never considered it for ‘regular’ use, but I can say it is absolutely effective at what it’s supposed to do, haha. It’s favored because it’s mineral-sparing in the system (read about loop blocking vs proximal tubule diuretics if you’re curious about this part).

I should try to move towards something like this. Over the past few months, I’ve relied too heavily on ‘stronger’ things to sleep (prescription drugs). I’d rather not do that forever.

This is a good question. I have some things that are meant to protect the liver/kidneys (TUDCA and NAC). I didn’t bring those up because they are really kind of specific to this part of my life. I don’t actually suffer from any noticeable side effects when I’m ‘on’. No acne, mood swings, estrogenic effects, etc. None of the stuff you see most people talk about. Hair loss I guess… but not sure if that’s just genetic anyway. Plus I shave my head.

Yea, not my favorite. I can tolerate yogurt. Saurkraut is awful to me, haha.

At the “near rotten - past rip old age” of 73 my supplementation has a slant toward life extension, but still trying to salvage muscle, though not very successfully.

Muscle saving:

  • Plasma
  • Metabolic Drive
  • Micro-PA
  • Creatine
  • Glutamine

Life Extension:

  • Prostate Health
  • Milk Thistle
  • Resveratrol
  • CoQ10 plus NAC and pyrroloquinoline quinone
  • Fish oil (1 tbs)
  • ZMA plus zinc lozenge
  • Vitamin D3
  • Curcumin
  • Hyaluronic acid (cured my rosacea)
  • Calcium/magnesium
  • R Lipoic acid
  • Balance of Nature

1+1=3? Question is: Can you actually stack supplements?

I guess combining creatine and beta-alanine is one way of stacking, another one would be collagen + hyaluronic acid. Others?

i think this was caught out of context.

I’m on prescription Adderall 40mg, which is a type of amphetamine. DMAA is also a form of amphetamine. More specifically, amphetamine + amphetamine =/= 2amphetamine.

i’m saying the effects of DMAA are pretty diminished for ME, but that is probably due to the Adderall i take.

you can ‘stack’ these but its kinda misusing the term ‘stack’ IMO. just taking these together is fine, and creatine/beta-alanine is in most every pre-workout you’ll ever find. Collagen and hyaluronic acid sounds like it’ll be good at clearing up your skin though lol

LOL It was definitely caught out of context. For some reason I couldn’t trace you previous explanation - and made my own (false) interpretation. I now understand your equation, which seems correct.

  • ZMX ( zinc magnesium glycine taurine formula )
  • Multi Vit

I take magnesium citrate capsules too. They’re only like 100 mg. and doesn’t have any discernable laxative effect at that dose.

BUT I do know of that which you are referring to. I’ve known a few people who were directed to use it prior to colonoscopy to clear things out. Completely. And somewhat violently.

Other supps I use regularly:

Resveratrol

Zinc gluconate

B complex

I don’t use i it to as a laxative. It helps me not cramp

Are you using the capsules or the liquid/beverage form?

capsules.

I’ve found that if I don’t take magnesium, I get bad leg cramps.

Yeah. I get some pretty bad cramps & whatnot throughout and it fills the bill for that, plus endocrine function and the thousand other odd physiological functions and processes it aids in.

Target brand Pedialyte has been a game changer for me the last 6 months

Does anyone have any experience with phosphatidic acid (micro-pa)?

I’ve always wondered if this was useful, like, at all.

I remember when it was introduced, and it was sold as basically a miracle supplement, near-steroid gains and such. And the marketing in and of itself was what turned me off of it, because it just sounded over-hyped. I’ve wondered if anyone in the years since it’s introduction (post-hype) have actually found it to be beneficial.

Ah yes, a staple of my recovery after water-cuts. I usually go through 4-6 liters of this post-weigh in (not directly after, usually 2 immediately and then sip on the rest of the next several hours). Sometimes I’ll have even one or 2 more during a comp if the weight cut was big.
