What Supplements? $100 - $150 Monthly Budget

I was told by one of my friends to take the following:

Plasma Jet
Max XXX protein mix
Sizeon

Then I read here at T-Nation that Plasma Jet (N02) is practically pointless. If that is in fact true, I am questioning the rest of the supplements he’d like me to take.

What do you take (to make gains) and what would you recommend for me?

Metabolic Drive is THE SHIT, maybe creatine in a shake as well. check out the Biotest store page, they have a shit load of dominant supps

I prefer Biotest Metabolic Drive (protein) and Flame out (fish oil). My brother buys protein and creates the blend he prefers (with micellar casein - similar to the aforementioned Metabolic Drive). We use generic/cheap creatine monohydrate. Other than that, the rest is up to your budget constraints.

  1. Protein - with micellar casein if possible
  2. Fish oil capsules
  3. Creatine monohydrate

Hope this helps.

Looking at your stats I think you should take that money, forget about supplements and use it to eat more.

x2.

Surge is great.

(I just assume people take fish oil)

Best advice.

True story. I just upped my caloric intake to 500 clean calories per meal - 6 meals a day. But would like to know of supplements that will support me to build.

My background: I built 15 pounds of lean mass last year without supplements. But I want to see if supplements will help…

Maybe.

That said, spending some money on Metabolic Drive and Surge is not a poor way to spend money, regardless of the stage you’re at.

Screw supplements you need food.

Actually I would weigh the situation you have.

If you have time to eat or prepare food meaning cook, then yes, food first. If you have a job/day like mine running from 6AM to 930P you need supplements to fill in the blanks.

And if you calculate it out Metabolic Drive, Grow!, gallon of milk, a couple of eggs, your looking at a shake with about 90g of protein you can sip throughout your day running up to about 3-4 bucks a day. Depnending on if you get your food organic or at cheap grocery. I go organic.

That being said I usually go in this order:

  1. Fish oil
  2. Protein
  3. Leucine
  4. Creatine
  5. ZMA

If you want a cheap pre-workout drink Power Drive ($17). I’ve used it and have never been disappointed.

My two cents.

I like the sound of that. Most supps are either a waste or simply a luxury for rich folk anyway.

These days all I get is whey, creatine, and a few vitamins, and I’m actually making more gains right now than I ever have before in the past while using “fancy” supps. A large part of that is because I’m focusing on eating FOOD now instead of stressing about which pills I should be popping or not.

Get your diet and training in order. SCREW supplements.

Seriously eat and train harder. No supplements will work even steroids, unless you do the above correctly.

That being said I call fish oil and protein foods not supps.

I would get a base amount of protein, fat and carbs for every meal except peri-workout.

Say start with:

60g protein
15g fat
60g carbs

Per meal and 6 meals a day.

For peri-workout drop 1 meal and add:
2 scoops Surge Recovery after training.

You do this and I guarantee you will get better results than ANY supplement!

ohh yeah get a good program and train like crazy!

bill

A more reasonable approach would be to double dose Surge. Three tubs will cost you 100 bucks, and last you a month if you’re lifting 4 days a week. Plus that leaves you money to get Flameout.

And for all of you who keep saying “food” a double dose of Surge is going to provide 700 extremely anabolic calories for a little over four bucks. You could do worse.

Spend it on tequila and lap dances on your days off from lifting.

Lately, a smile on my face - and if I can maintain it for a few hours - is worth more to me.

Money left over? Buy a used book.

15g of fat per meal?? What are you supposed to eat? You pretty much remove red meat altogether with that…

X6, yet some whey protein wouldn’t hurt. I recommend it especially for people with shit appetites to use throughout the day. Fish oil, your joints/tendons will take a beating, it helps some. Yet bottom line if it comes down to real food vs supplements always go with the FOOD.

yes cause we know fat is so ickkkky:/

Yea if you want plasmajet i still got 12 blister packs left all yours. It sucked and the last pack i took made me really sick my face turned violently red and felt like it was on fire after that i have been to scared to try it again…

Focus primarily on food.

The only supps you “need” are whey protein, some fast digesting carbs post work out (either Surge or maltodextrin/dextrose), and creatine.

I consider the whey to be food in and of itself as opposed to a true “supp” but that’s because I wouldn’t be able to get all my protein each day through whole foods alone. The whey is just another source of protein to me.

Stick to these three and you will be fine.
