What Pumps You Up?!

Hey guys, I was sitting here on the computer while doing situps and pushups every couple of minutes and I was wondering what music you people listen to when you work out…I’m all about techno/trance/eurodance and sometimes I listen to System of A Down… hope to hear from my fellow T-Nation members…skeet skeet skeet

bands like, Shinedown, Metallica, Rob Zombie, Sevendust, older Godsmack.

I’m all for classic rock. Nothing gets me going more in the gym than when some Zeppelin starts playing. Also, some of the older AC/DC stuff is just awesome.

The girl in that pic is doing a good job of pumping something up…

As for music…it’s heavy metal for me and I’m talking about serious heavy metal not this pussy Disturbed shit. Strapping Young Lad, Arch Enemy, Slayer, Fear Factory (sans Digimortal)…

BTW, this topic has been done to death.

Hatebreed, old Metalica, Mastodon, Isis, Lamb of God, Trivium, Dillinger Escape Plan, BLS, White Zombie, Black Sabbath, Tool, Superjoint Ritual, Soil, Six Feet Under, Old Rage Against the Machine, QOTSA, Pennywise, Pantera, Ministry, Melvins, High On Fire, Bongzilla, and too much more to list without my Ipod by my side:-)

“The Sickness” is intense enough, but their second album was more tame. If I needed a theme song to enter the ring to, it would be “Enemy” by Disturbed.

System of A Down (great for cardio sprinting intervals), Rob Zombie, Type O Negative, older Eminem stuff, and Green Jelly (I’ve got 1 album on tape, probably 12 years old, but I’ll break it out every few months. Obey The Cow God).

Well, I can tell you right now that the music selection played at my gym doesn’t pump me up. Sky Rockets in Flight, Afternoon Delight? I think not. And the rock/metal is played so quietly you can barely hear it. Working out to silence is more motivating!

I have linkin Park on my cd player, but it’s kind of tame lately.

Eagles of Death Metal, The Black Keys, The Pixies and lots of old rock, like Zeppelin, The Doors etc.

Well, I gotta tell you nothing pumps me and gets the Test flowing and raging like…

Downtown, by Petula Clark!

Peep these hard I rep max motivating lyrics.

When you’re alone and life is making you lonely
You can always go - downtown
When you’ve got worries, all the noise and the hurry
Seems to help, I know - downtown
Just listen to the music of the traffic in the city
Linger on the sidewalk where the neon signs are pretty
How can you lose?

The lights are much brighter there
You can forget all your troubles, forget all your cares
So go downtown, things’ll be great when you’re
Downtown - no finer place, for sure
Downtown - everything’s waiting for you

Ah yeah baby, I’m headed to the gym!

Dimmu Borgir, Cradle of Filth, Dark Tranquility, Kataklysm, Lamb of God are some of my favorites to listen to. Pretty much any death or black metal will do.

How about old school rap? Not Sugar Hill Gang but Whodini, Eric B. & Rakim, Fat Boys etc. Any old schoolers out there?

Indeed this topic has been done to death over and over, like the f-ing energizer bunny. But, as always, an opportunity to promote TOOL.

Simply TOOL Dissectional is amazing and I cannot wait for them to go back on tour.

you don’t fuck with the swayze…

2Pac, Eminem, and The Game!

I am starting to feel the power of The Swayze… I might have to watch Roadhouse now as well as listening to Petula Clark before heading to the house of Iron.

Nobodys jacks with Dalton!

I too prefer house and trance for these reasons:
no (or few) lyrics to fog my brain
beat and rhythm gel with intensity

Some gold ol’ Social D / punk / grunge / generally pissed off music is ok at times.

But usually I am so focused that I don’t need the music. It too just gets in my way as does that “f*cktard” (lovin’ that word) in the squat rack!

Bastard!

I prefer this version:

Jonestown

Sung to the tune of “Downtown.”

When your down and your broke, and your religion’s a joke
Why don’t you go and see
Jim Jones
When your life’s incomplete, there’s only one man to meet
Why don’t you go and see
Jim Jones

Refrain

Watch him mix the Cool aid in the vat so lethal
Listen to the anguished cries of all the dying people
Everyone dies.

The rev’s the most gracious host
So, lift up your glasses, the ultimate toast
(So, lift up you glasses, the durge of the masses)
Your in Jonestown
Drink with the reverend Jim
Jonestown
Chances are mighty slim
Jonestown
People are dropping like flies.

Congressman Ryan, on a mission of spyin’
Would not drink with
Jim Jones
Such a public disgrace, they had to blow off his face
'Cause he would not drink with
Jim Jones

Refrain

First you cough and you wheeze, then you drop to your kness
From drinking Cool aid with
Jim Jones
You arrive back in the States, decomposed in your crates
From drinking Cool aid with
Jim Jones

Refrain

Jonestown, Jonestown (repeat in diminuendo)

I’ll bet 70% of the people are too young to remember this.

I play these three songs in this order:

Shinedown - Fly From The Inside
Alter Bridge - Metalingus
Lloyd Banks - Playboy

I don’t know why this works so well.
