Yesterday morning I took half a grain NDT and felt pretty good during the day, but fell asleep veeery late(felt too much energy at bed time) and woke very early. Slept maybe 5 hours.
How can I handle this?

You probably need to give it more time. My dad hated Armour at first but after a month he loved it.
The SHBG levels are increased in hyper- and decreased in hypothyroid patients.
In hypothyroid patients, SHBG concentrations increases during levothyroxine treatment. In hyperthyroid patients, SHBG concentrations decreases during antithyroid treatment.
One theory is that testosterone clearance is slowed down by the increased SHBG levels during LT4 treatment, but thats apparently not
I think you either need to give it more time, our you are actually not hypothyroid and by adding L3+L4 you are moving yourself into a hyperthyroid status.
Your labs would point towards the latter, but I can fully understand that you just want to give it a try. In this case you maybe need to be more patient.
@johann77 I agree it is one or the other.
I will continue now with my 3.25mcg T3 and I will speak with the doctor about this as well. Hopefully to be able to make the consultation with him until end of next week, just as a gift for my birthday to recommend me to start TRT.
I suspect he will want to see how my thyroid labs and symptoms will go on testosterone only.
I have never even heard of TBG… I will get it tested ASAP. Why do you think i have a TBG deficiency?
I did get a thyroid scan though, nothing there.
Thank you very much for your detailed answer. Really appreciated!
Can we say i have ok FT3 and FT4 numbers despite having so low T4 and T3? Does that mean i actually have little to none conversion issues?
Because you have low or lowish T3/T4 with free T3/T4 in range. Thats what you would expect from lower than normal thyroxin binding globulin (TBG) levels.
Its kind of similar to the situation with T, SHBG and free T.
Thank you. Very interesting.
This has been bugging me… If i have TBG deficiency i guess that will explain…
And if i have the deficiency , increasing it means thyroid meds? Is it any different than trying to increase my FT4 or FT3?
What has done the job here then ?
The T3 or the T4. You just never know what is doing what with NTH.
You still want to push your metabolism with T3 when it reacts so strongly to it. Much better to see how a little T4 will work out.
You don’t have conversion issues, but the way to tell is to take more T4 and get the FT4 up a bit. Ft3 should push up as well.
With a lot of women you can give lots of T4 and they will have a high Ft4, but the FT3 doesn’t really come up. These cases are where you have a conversion problem.
Selenium is the mineral to aid conversion.
I got that covered with 4-5 brazil nuts a day ![]()
That’s a relief.
Man i’ve got my Thyroid-S all the way from Thailand after all the trouble with customs… Now you are telling me to go T4 only where i could just pick it up from a pharmacy 20 meters away from me ,without rx ![]()
Yep. Always try T4 first. It works well for men. There is a significant minority who don’t do well with T4 and you hear them loud and clear on the forums, hence you get everyone going for NTH or T3.
But if it works for you it means your life is much easier in the long term. Easier to get hold of and cheap. If it doesn’t work out you then move onto the T3 products.
@marsaday
Understood. Thanks once again. And if after all T4 was all i needed , i owe you a beer.
What dose would you start it at , if you’ve had my levels?
The T4 med here is called Levotiron.
Levotiron contains Levothyroxine Sodium as an active ingredient and shouldn’t be any different at all than Synthroid.
I still cannot agree with you on the T4 stance. I know at least 3 men personally on T4 that have issues with that including the father of my GF and they tend to do much better on NDT.
I personally tend to adhere to the logic that NDT or a t4/t3 combo better simulates the natural production of the body which produces t3 as well. The theory that leaving the body on conversion alone is harmful makes a lot of sense to me.
But what I will take personally will say the doctor next week who is an expert BHRT specialist and I trust completely unlike the stupid endocrinologists. I suspect he will take me off all thyroid for now and observe me on testosterone only. Read somewhere this may bring the reverse t3 down
You mean RT3 is to be decreased when on TRT?
Mine increased.
@kemosi
Mine too
Increased?
How did that affect you, did you add any thyroid supplementation for this?
The theory is that testosterone should bring cortisol down and this should bring RT3 down. How solid is this, maybe it depends on the individual
Increased all the way from 132 to 205 and then with latest results after couple of months it’s back to 139. I suspect if i test it again tomorrow it might be some random number. Look below for my RT3 labs ;
June (pre-trt) 132.0 pg/mL
July 205.7 pg/ml
September 160.0 pg/ml
October 167.0 pg/ml
November 139 pg/ml
One thing i can say is that it did not really impact my FT3 or FT4 or any of my thyroid numbers at all… When at 205 or at 132… didn’t matter. Not sure what this explains… I have heard even if you have very good numbers of FT3 , having high RT3 can negate it. Maybe that’s how high RT3 does it’s thing.
I think i have cortisol issues too and just got my kit to test it…
Not used any kind of thyroid meds yet but I did IR based on KSman sticky. That only elevated TSH , nothing else.
What is IR?
I know it is normal when you start TRT TSH to be temporarily elevated. Maybe this can happen to RT3 as well. TRT changes all the endocrine system so it is logical other hormones to fluctuate.
