In my previous life, I was a journeyman tool and die maker/mold maker/metrologist. Now, I am a Wal-mart type greeter for the US so all the Canadians can come down and get “cheap gas and six beer”.
Sales, transitioning to full-time online, small-group and bootcamp trainer / business owner.
Love every minute of the latter, the stress, the lack of sleep, the being in uncomfortable positions.
For the former, I’m in a large fucking box with Muzac and the I-Swear-to-God Mirror-Universe Me. Motherfucker made the opposite of every decision I’ve ever made; drugs, work, education, marriage, health.
So fuck that.

Chemical engineering major, but I work as a pharmacy tech right now.
I sit at a computer all day locating the Deed of trust and all important documents referencing it for homes going into default to be foreclosed on. Its definitely the most boring job I’ve ever had and I hate it every day…but it pays decent and its super stable in the current economy so I’m going to ride it out for now.
I hate anything where I have to sit at a desk all day though…I’d love to find something that pays decent and is more active.
Geez, all this responsibility going around… I’m a janitor. and I enjoy it. Always a plus when heavy stuff needs to be moved, and they call on you to do it. ![]()

PBANDY…I was in the Army as well. Also in law enforcement for eight years. You asked for more info on being a fireman. I work 24 hrs on /48 hrs off. With benefit time i work an average of eight days per month. Average salary where i am at is 60-80k per year, great benefits and retirement. More importantly than salary or benefits is the internal satisfaction from helping people. THATS ALL WE DO.
It may be saving life or property but you are only going to help make the situation better. With your military service alot of departments will give you preferance points. It never hurts to take the test. The best decision I ever made.[/quote]
Thanks for the response. Do you have any recommendations on getting started with applying for the fire department? I’m only 20 right now but will have a B.S. in Kinesiology in two years, but I’d like to see if I can get my EMT-B certification done through my college (if that’s how it works, not quite sure).
I’m a columnist for a small magazine here in Chico, CA. I just went back to school up here to finish my degree in history. Hopefully a couple years from now I’ll be posting on this thread that I just passed the bar exam.
I’ve been an American Sign Language interpreter for the past 16 years. Prior to that I worked in the field of mental health which I feel has prepared me for my present job. ![]()
