What Do T-Men Do for a Living?

After all, we can’t all be like Ted Williams!

I am a trainee lawyer and, to be frank, feel like a pussy doing such a white collar job.

Once I have paid off law school debts I will leave the profession, not least because of the stupid number of hours I will have to work that leave little time for outside interests.

What do you’ll do and do you ever feel that your job pulls in the opposite direction to your fitness goals and life philosophy?

Haven’t we done this already?

My vote is for Playgirl model.

This thread is meaningless without…Christine…WRONG picture.

If you feel like a pussy because of your job, you are not a T-man…

I think there was another thread like this awhile ago, but I’ll bite.
I’m the Budget Director for a major city’s Fire Department. Its a great gig, but I too feel like a pussy sometimes with such a white-collar administrative job, especially since I’m surrounded by firefighters here at work.

I’m also an E-4 in the Mass Air National Guard in an MP unit, which is slightly cooler, but nutrition and exercise in the military are basically a joke anyways. I work out at Eric Cressey’s gym and am sometimes jealous of his and his other coaches lifestyles, but at the same time, they are probably jealous of mine. They put in a lot of hours.

Is that Uncle Jessie on the cover, or just a Stamos lookalike?? Too funny.

This is slightly retarded. Do what you are good at or enjoy doing. Who the hell cares about white collar/blue collar labels? Not to mention having a white collar job probably means you’ll have more energy after working to train…

Don’t jump on me because of the wording.

All I mean is that I find a satisfaction in doing physical stuff. Law, in particular, is so abstract it feels meaningless.

I like the immediacy of lifting a weight, doing a pushup, or whatever.

but drafting a contract, bah…

I would love to just do more of a hardcore job, maybe I just want to be like big ronnie…

all right hucker!! I work for Caterpillar, big monster machines that move dirt, cant get more manly than that. But I feel like a pussy for not going to law school and getting a comfy white collar gig like mommy wanted. We always want what we dont have.

You’re right.

This one does a much better job of capturing the thread.

I sell mattresses, motherfuckers.

Actually, I think this one does.

wholesale seafood distributor (proffesonial fish thrower).

Electrical Engineering Intern…cool gig when you have stuff to do. Boring during slow times. Learning how to draw shit in 3D right now. Now that’s cool as fuck.

I’m a Mechanical Engineer.

Underpaid, Underworked, Overappreciated.

A lawyer also, so I sympathize with the OP’s sentiments. It just sucked when I’d look around and realize that I worked with a bunch of overweight, middle-aged women.

That said, I think litigation is definitely more T-manly than transactional work. Sitting at a desk all day and drafting contracts is kinda ghey, whereas courtroom drama and such seems far cooler.

I have also thought about a career in law enforcement. If I could go back, I would probably try to be a firefighter. That would have been bad ass.

Strength and Conditioning coach

Even this is career path full of Morons and not exactly as T-man as could be expected.

Id say deep sea fisherman, some one im in awe of is my uncle. 60 odd years old now and still does it regularly he has hands like an rhino’s hard spot and once got stabbed by a sting ray in the forearm and refused to go back to land. When he was’nt fishing he was a volunteer lifeboatman.

I don’t think it has to do with being manly or what not. You probably just don’t enjoy working in the abstract. I’m very much the same. I worked in advertising for years as a media planner/buyer. There isn’t much more abstract than buying space and time. I really hated it. It was always a big 911 emergency over stupid crappola. I was good at it but didn’t feel good about pimping shit that people don’t need.

Now I work in construction as an estimator. I love how concrete it all is. I measure blueprints, give a price and decide on material quantities, types and installations. You can see a physical thing that was built. It’s so manly I think I grew a dick.

If I could do it again, I’d be a cop though.

Math/Physics teacher (high school). Each day is a new set of challenges, plus most of the time the kids are hilarious. Summers are good for bulking and I keep a mini-fridge in my classroom (pad-locked of course). Most of the faculty are extremely curious about my pecular eating habits. A&W for lunch a few times a week yet I don’t have a gut…

One of my best friends/colleagues at the school is about 50 and refers to me, in a non-derogatory way, as “that musclebuilder”.

that’s cool man, gotta love being picked out for stuff like that.

i’m typically known as “the healthy guy” at my job(s). mainly becuae i’m a skinny dude…but i’m on my way to 205lbs…so i’m sure then people will find a different nickname for me. hopefully its not “the fat guy who eats alot of oats”

Yeah you would make a good cop. I can totally see that.

I have the nerdist job in the world. I do IT work for the company I work for. So in down time it gives me lots of time for research and reading on training. I also have lots of energy and pent up frustration that gets loose in the gym when I leave work. I like my job and I am good at it.

I could give a fuck less if anyone thinks its T-man enough for anyone else. I have had training partners that are construction workers that can’t keep up with me in the gym. So really there is no such thing as a T-man job. Just STFU and lift your weight and get big. Quit cryen if you don’t like your job and get new one.
