It does usually give an insight if the OP is truthful. This has been a standard question on this sight far longer than you have been a member here and, believe it or not, members have helped each other for years BEFORE your arrival.
The guy obviously needs help and it is typically a good place to start. Passing judgment is seldom helpful in these situations.
