Haven’t watched the TV series but have read all the books. It’s reported that she is working on number 6 but no release date has been set as far as I know. Cormorand is quite the character.
Small book on the third reich by julius evola
Then I’ll finish tragedy and hope by Quidgley
Then probably another history book on the first world war or the latest book I bought by Eustache Mullins
Not one I’m actively reading but have read and just an observation:
I feel like the world would be a better place if everyone read “Black Swan” by Nassim Nicholas Talib
Fast Ice by Clive Cussler
Agreed. Taleb’s literary opus had a massive effect on both my private and professional life. He’s one of the very few people who are actual independent thinkers.
I don’t know how you can limit it to one book. Better to say everyone should read the Incerto and consider that a single work.
Antifragility and Skin in the Game have had huge impacts on the way I work.
Because I was in a meeting and this thought popped in my head - we wouldn’t need the meeting if people understood the concept better.
But yes Skin in the Game are great as well…I haven’t read Antifragile yet
I said, this guy is still around? (read his books way back in the day) Googled -died 2020 (of course…)
I have never read any of the books, although I am familiar with and use the term “black swan”.
Googled, and this made me chuckle: “Set against the backdrop of the most conspicuous forum in which luck is mistaken for skill–the world of trading”
^^ *Everybody is a stock market genius these days, no? LOL. It used to be that only the guys that worked on Wall Street or in hedge funds were stock market geniuses…
I will give Fooled by Randomness a go, since it’s Book 1. @dchris @loppar Or would you recommend one of the other ones first?
He is my all time favorite. I think this is the last novel he had a hand in. He has had helpers for the last few years. I really like Jack de Bruhl Oregon files, but I will admit Final Option co written with Boyd Morrison was excellent!
I lost touch with Dirk and the gang because the library where I borrowed those books from ran out, and that was before the interwebz and ebooks LOL.
I’m sorry because Juan Cabrillo ( The Chairman) is sexsay. Dirk is the head of Numa now and Sandecker is vice president. I have read them all, some multiple times. The Silent Sea is a fave.
Will have to try to revisit for sure.
I’d suggest reading in order. I read in this order > antifragile > fooled > black swan > SITG
I started with Black Swan, but Antifragile is a good start as well. Bear in mind that Taleb frequently displays a a tortured, meandering writing style that may not be everyone’s cup of tea.
The link below a chapter from Skin In The Game that gives a general idea about his writing style and how he presents ideas and concepts.
I don’t have time to finish the sample this morning, but my first thought upon reading it was that I rather like his tortured, meandering writing style. My second thought was to wonder if I may be guilty of tortured, meandering thought as well, which would not only be reflected in my writing, but the 6-7 hours I spend talking to patients each day.
If I had time to work out, I would probably ponder this, in my tortured, meandering pondering style, while on the treadmill.
My husband, re arguing: “I don’t even know what you’re talking about half the time!”
I will give it a try as I want to do my part for a better world.
You never have struck me as part of the problem
What is the problem? Ignorance and thoughtlessness (in the true sense of the word, i.e. not given to thought)? Or something less obvious?
