What Are You Reading?

Not sure if this counts as old, but I liked first three parts of Dark Tower.

It started in the 80s, that counts!

Not that old but 11/22/63 was pretty good.

Finished…
The Hallmarked Man - Robert Galbraith
@punnyguy have you chewed up all 31 hours of this?

Listening to…
The Dark Hours - Michael Connelly
This will be the last one of these for me. I like the Lincoln Lawyer series but Renee Ballard just isn’t my jam.

Just finished this one. Fun read. Lots of unique deaths you haven’t read before… if you’re into that kinda thing.

A couple of minor things were never explained, but it doesn’t affect the enjoyment of the light read.

I read the book! Large print LOL! Oh, the cliffhanger…

Rowling said the next one is ā€œwell underwayā€, so hopefully just a year between books.

For whatever reason, there are not many audio books I can fully appreciate vs the kindle/hard copy versions, but Lincoln Lawyer series was one I liked a lot.

Renee Ballard is a little slow, which meant I preferred to listen vs read if that makes sense; I have finished them. I thought the Amazon Prime series starring Maggie Q was decent.

Just finished The Well of Ascension. Massive cliffhanger. 14 week wait to borrow the last book in the series. I should probably read something motivational while I wait.

Dune Messiah. Read it over 40 years ago, now reading it again. Herbert is a great author. Think I’ve read every book in the Dune universe, a lot by his son.

@Doodle13 Sorry. Didn’t want to clog up @Stormblessed log with book stuff. Have you read The Name of the Wind. It’s a pretty good one. It is, however an unfinished series. So if that bothers you, maybe don’t start it. Lol.

I’ll have to check that out ! My wife convinced me to read some sarah J mas books in exchange for getting her to read mistborn. Not my favorite series but its enjoyable! And the audiobook is easy to listen to.

I have read her as well. I commend you for getting through it. Lol. I enjoyed them but am burnt on that genre. That is where Mistborn came in. I just finished Children of Time as well. It was pretty good and I like the narrator.

I took a break over the weekend. I had started Meade the Price of Command 1863-1865 by John Selby. I detoured and have read 3/4 of The Lincoln Lawyer by Connelly.

I will get back to George Meade when I finish Connelly. I have enjoyed the Netflix series The Lincoln Lawyer so I thought I would take in the first novel.

I’m finishing up ā€œSay Nothingā€ by Patrick Radden Keefe. I always knew generally what the troubles were but listening to a book about it really puts into perspective how violent it got. I’m also finishing up ā€œWe are legion (We are bob)ā€ which was a fun change of pace

Next up is ā€œHyperionā€ after @SepCalla recommended it a while ago

Hyperion is really good. Science fiction nerd and I think the Hyperion Cantos book series is probably second all time for me outside of the Dune series.

I’m on a science fiction break and reading horror.

Currently reading Last Days by Adam Nevill. It’s pretty good so far.

Both of these are definitely in my top 5 scifis of all time. I haven’t read every Dune book though, and I haven’t touched Endymion, since I’ve heard they’re not great and the first two books work well as a standalone story.

I re-read this every few years, the older I get the more relevant it feels.

What’s your top 5 list? I’ll be needing a new book here in a week.

I’ll think about it!

I had not any list ready, but thought it throught now. Not an easy task to do. I decided to make this list as completely subjective. These are books that have moved me and have had profound effect in me. Here’s my top 5 scifis, in no particular order:

Hyperion and The Fall of Hyperion. Just all around awesomeness. I love the versatility and the Cantenbury -touch of this book. Simmons is an awesome writer.

Dune. First 3 books. A classic and self explanatory.

The Book of the New Sun. I just finished this about a month ago. Insanely good book, but it’s not an easy read. Base knowledge of various subjects ans understanding of allegories help and lot. But I loved this. I did not understand everything, so I need to give it a second go at some point.

Remembrance of Earth’s Past -trilogy. Actually this is an very uneven series, and not everything is golden. But it did make in this list, since it has the one of the biggest ā€holy shit!ā€ -moments I’ve encourtered in scifi. It has also some great, terrifying, intriguing and very unique ideas.

I have to include 1984 in here. It was the first dystopian scifi book I did read and it’s one of the main reasons why teenager me interested in societal topics and scifi themes.

There was a ton of books that I did not include, but they deserve a mention. Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep, Foundation trilogy or some of Tchaikosvky’s books could fit in here. Or McCarthy’s The Road (if that counts as scifi). I’ve also heard Ubik is very good and many has labelled it as their favorite scifi -book by many, but I’ve haven’t not yet read that one.
