What Are You Reading?

On a bit of a Michael Lewis kick. Just finished Flash Boys and Boomerang.

Boomerang was unfortunately more travel log than economic analysis, but still a good overview of the “cheap credit tsunami” that hit the world in the 2000’s.

Flashboys was about HFTs. I realize that HFT’s are a bit sleazy, but I still have trouble feeling sorry for the Wallstreet type they were screwing over

I recently finished a local history book. It was pretty good, especially because I don’t read much American history.

Last year in a small used bookstore I stumbled upon a niche book on republicanism in Russia. It was a bargain compared to the prices listed for it online. I had not touched it since June – I figure that there is no better time to start it than now.

But I plan on delving into fiction again soon, which is much-needed.

I read the intro to book 1, super interesting premise. Unfortunately, looks like my library only has 13 of the 30+ !! (you’ll be binging for awhile LOL) books in the series, with book 13 as the next available one…

They have all been free on audible to this point. From here on out it starts to skip a couple, then a free one bla, blah…
I read the publisher’s summary on the next couple and now I need to know when Fidelma and Eadulf get married. Poor Eadulf :joy:

At this point some of the descriptions are getting repeative, and apparently it’s always autumn in Ireland because his favorite word seems to be… autumnal. A couple of them have been really good!

The White Guard by Mikhail Bulgakov.

The novel is surprisingly pertinent because although written almost a hundred years ago, hatred towards Ukrainians oozes from every page.
