Okay got to ask why hate Nirvana? Because of the lyrics? the Music? or were you going against the grain because they were popular?
Love most if not all of the music from the grunge years and still listen to it. Lithium on Serius is my station when not listening to football.
I agree, lithium is an awesome station, especially being that i was only a baby/child during the grunge era, its good for discovering a lot of smaller bands from then.
And to the guy who said he “hates” nirvana: Dont really see how you could hate them if you liked other music from the time, unless its purely for the fact that their popularity bugged you. I’ll admit that its a bummer that a band like Nirvana goes down as the greatest from the grunge era and because of them, bands like soundgarden, pearljam and AIC will never get as much recognition as they deserve, but kinda hard to hate on em…even though Nirvana did come off as a little whiney at times.
My biggest issue with Nirvana i suppose is the lack of diversity, especially when compared with soundgarden, who you could probably argue was one of the most, if not the most diverse hard rock band of all time, especially in the later stages of their career. This is why i cant help but feel giddy with delight at the thought that they are working on a new album this year.
Soundgarden and AIC were definitely the best bands to come out of that scene. While I don’t know if I would go so far as to say Nirvana was over-rated, I would say that their stock definitely rose because of Cobain’s death. I doubt they would have had the staying power they enjoy today if it weren’t for that event.
I may get smoked for saying this, but I feel the most over-rated band from that era was Pearl Jam. Don’t get me wrong…I thought “Ten” was a great album, and I still have it. However, their music just went straight to shit after that.
Somewhere along the line, it’s like they forgot how to put a melody together. And I got very tired of Eddie Vedder’s whole, “Oh, poor me…it sucks to be famous.” routine.

They have become the new Grateful Dead, methinks.
I don’t know man, I just didn’t like them. Add dislike to constant radio airplay and you get hate. I loved the first Pearl Jam album, and was a huge Soundgarden fan, but I never got into AiC (though I didn’t dislike them) and really disliked Nirvana. Grunge wasn’t really my thing.
Layne Staley is one of two celebrity deaths that actually bothered me (Dimebag), mostly because Cantrell always said “As long as we’re all alive, there’s a chance” regarding a reunion. When Staley died, it was done.
That said, Duvall is doing a great job, and the guys seem to be enjoying themselves getting out and playing shows again. Good to see.

Video killed the radio star. MTV overplayed Pearl Jam also.

When pearl jam was on, they were ON, but when they were off, they sucked. I still listen to them to this day. Ten, vs, and their self titled album from several years ago are all pretty outstanding albums, and really show that if they had been more consistent, they couldve really gone down as one of the greatest hard rock bands of all time. However, at times their shit just sounded downright generic and uninspired. I was really disappointed by their newest album, i expected a lot more after their surprisingly good self titled album, but backspacer seemed to be taking a step back to the garbage they released throughout the late 90s like binaural and vitalogy
